Hands were placed on hips--or rather, he tried to do so.    It was a difficult feat to attempt while still a tanuki. The    plush animal form he'd taken was a little round for such    a thing. Form was changed in a characteristic puff of    smoke, animal to man, arms then comfortably crossing    in his changed form.

"Gnome?"    She'd called him a 'Summon Spirit'--the phrase was unfamiliar    and required pondering. It sounded like she was talking about    more than just a simple spirit--a minor god, perhaps? Statements    given were leading to the conclusion of perhaps this young woman    was from a hereditary witch household--families that dealt in pacts    with spirits. Ah--but she didn't seem to be haunted. Not at the moment,    at least.
"Don't know a Gnome. 'Course, I've only been a few places myself,     not 'round the whole world. That's pretty impressive, ojo-chan."
"Yep! From all around the world, actually." It was something she spoke of more casually than proudly, given why her friends sought out the spirits in the first place.
"Um… The spirit I’m talking about is called Gnome. The Summon Spirit of Earth!" That was a good point, and it could of been true that she was getting a little carried away because besides the spirits she met, it wasn’t often she encountered them.
"Well…" There’s a pause, a smile still on her face despite her assumption being wrong. "Maybe you know Gnome anyway?

The mention of it being a contact sport was pretty off-putting.    He really wasn't into pain. Not that he wasn't used to it--he just    didn't like it. Granted, being a spirit and technically being dead    pretty much drastically lowered the chances of broken bones    and accidental injuries. Or at least healing time. The only injuries    that could lay him out were the supernatural kind.
"I'm not really all that keen on contact sports, but I guess I could     give it a shot or--"
Then the kid freaked. Or at least it looked that way to Shigaraki.    Sheesh--blondie couldn't take a joke?
Tumblr media
"Kid, it was a joke. As in, no way. Not serious."
"No catch! I mean, it’s a contact sport, so it can be a little dangerous, but that just makes it more fun! Ya gotta be willing to break a few bones to win.” Other people’s, and your own, but any good athlete had to be at least a little bit of an adrenaline junkie in that way. There was no glory like winning a game by the skin of your teeth, just barely making that necessary goal in the last few seconds. The most intense games were always the best to play, and watch. “It’s all a part of the show… ya figure it out pretty quick.” His expression was casual, confident, but once again— quickly shifted; confusion and some distaste joining the fray. “Uhh— ?!” His type? Oh, man. Did this guy think he was coming onto him or something?
Tumblr media
"W-woah; don’t get the wrong idea! I mean, you’re cool and all, but, uh… that’s not what I… sorry!” His hands waved in a panic as he shook his head.

It was easily picked upon that his new companion was a man of few words.    Not a problem--idle chit chat with other men was often only tedious anyway.    There was a patient silence around the spirit as the other readied their playing    field, observing the process with a casual look. Odds of winning were briefly    considered, then put aside. The serious teen no doubt had more experience--     and cards--than he did.
Tumblr media
"Fine enough." Seat was taken after agreement to rule, lazily shuffling through     his own--smaller--deck. Cards were similarly doled out upon the table with     seemingly little thought.    "Any other special rules ya wanna play? Oh--and trade rule 'One' fine?"
Tumblr media
"…Guess it is." Understatement of the millennium coming from Squall. Case pried open again, the fairly large deck of cards was exposed. Gathered in his opposite hand only to be cautiously tucked into his pocket. Hands freed, he began to pull the case apart, sliding out corners and neatly snapping the pieces into a new arrangement. Luckily enough, there were tables nearby. The unfolded case was set upon the closest table, the side on display revealed to be a playing mat for the game. Removing the deck from his pocket, the youth took a seat and began to shuffle. (If he picked it up a week ago, it’d be better to stick with Open rule.) “How’s Open rule?” he asked, setting five cards upright on the table.

'I really can't stand...                                 to see a woman cry.'
He was just doing his job. That's all. To deceive humans.                                                His job.
   Why did he hate it?
She was crying, shouting at him. He was supposed to help,    he said he'd bring them money, that he could be trusted. She's    on the ground, screaming, holding her husband's lifeless body.    Her son's at the door, knocking, asking why mommy was yelling.
He was just doing his job.
She's throwing things at him, shouting for her child to keep out,    still crying. Always crying. Eyes were red, filled with tears and hate.    Hate for him. The things she threw hurt, but not as much as those tears.    Never as much as the tears. He was bleeding, but he didn't care.                                                       This was his payment.
He was just doing his job.
It's quiet now. Her hands are empty--no, she has a knife.    But she's not throwing it. He knows what comes next; it's    happened before. Over and over. He's emotionless, stone, as he    witnesses the moment she ceases to exist. The moment the boy    outside becomes an orphan.
He was just doing his job.
The knocking continues, the young boy wants to know what's happening.    So he opens the door, not letting the child see the scene of blood and    destruction. He closes the door, and kneels in front of the child,    giving the boy a grin, telling him everything's fine, it'll be okay, why    don't we go for a walk while momma calms down? He'll buy ice cream.
He was just doing his job.
They never come home. Instead, he takes the boy to the orphanage    with all the other children. The other ones. Ones whose parents he    watched die in the despair of total bankruptcy.
He was just doing his job.
                                                    He hated his job.

He had to admit he approved of that two-tone hairstyle.    Though, he doubted it was as natural as his own, being the    bangs were the darker part on the other male.

Suddenly, his attention was captured. Co-ed teams? Heck yeah.    Cheerleaders swooning over him. Yeah, he could get lost in that    daydream for a while, if he were alone. Alright, sure, he'd listen to    the basics and decide if it was too much work or not.
Tumblr media
"So, lemme get this straight. You play it underwater, and blitz is      the game that gets all the babes? What's the catch?"
Then he the blond mentioned his relationship status, causing the    spirit's expression to momentarily deadpan. Bragging about his popularity,    huh. Just like Kitsune.
"--Don't worry, you're not my type."
"30 minutes? That’s not too bad. With practice, you could get real good! Heh— and some of the best in the game are girls. Even those who don’t blitz… they probably got a team they like. Or at least a player."Smugly, hands went to his hips in a proud pose. “Trust me: if it’s women you want, blitz is the way to go.” The boast lasted only a few seconds before he lost his composure, retracting the bluster with an awkward laugh. His mouth was seriously gonna get him in trouble one of these days. "Uhh— not for me, though! I’m taken!"

Actually paying. Could he afford that? Probably not.    Would he still attempt to meet the--rather strict, in his opinion--    requirements for their soon-to-be date? Yes.
Tumblr media
"Sure, sure, not a problem!     Just lead the way to a place you like~."

Wasn’t into pain? Then he was certainly barking up the wrong tree wasn’t he? Ah, finally. A subject worth talking about. Nothing quite like a good drink but she wouldn’t put it past him to put something in her serve. The money he previously flashed was fake. But she couldn’t turn down a free drink. "Well, if you are paying. And actually paying, not faking the money. And only if it’s from an unopened bottle. No tampering.”

”Do you really needed to call me for that? I’m sure you already know the answer, old tanuki; Chances are of 0,0%. Get a job already, slacker.”
The fox was annoyed.
