KCM Senior Banquet 2014: The Wolf of 30th Street
This past Thursday, May 14, KCM held its annual senior banquet at Oriental Missions Church. Kevin Choi (c/o 2016) emceed a night of praise, food, and fun that was held to celebrate the seniors' time in the ministry, thank old core members, and welcome the new core and seniors.
After a time of praise led by freshmen and sophomores, Bludso's BBQ was served for dinner.
The freshmen, sophomores, and juniors all prepared videos (or presentations, like the sophomores' amazing rap) to say goodbye to the seniors. After presenting these videos, small group participants took the stage to present their leaders with gifts and thank-you speeches.
President Timmy Kang then introduced the new core members for 2014-2015:
President: Trevor Wong
Inreach: Timothy Chong, Eric Park
Missions: Angela Lee
Outreach: Samuel Lee (Uganda)
Praise: Kevin Choi
Prayer: Stephen Kim
Small Group: Hannah Yoo, Andrew Hanuk Choi
After everyone on the new core spoke briefly about their positions, the banquet dissolved and everyone left the room ASAP due to the incredibly high temperature and humidity.
Thank you for an awesome year, Timmy! BUH BYEEEE~
Lastly, the incoming seniors look forward to enjoying their last year in KCM:
PC the talented Austin Chee :)

Alumni Night
An alumni night post from an almost future alumni...
This past Thursday, April 24th USC Alumni came to visit KCM. They performed praise.
Here's a closer look.
It was awesome to hear such talented alumni! Thanks so much for playing for us!!
Then Pastor John's son Matthew came up to preach. Just kidding, but really Pastor John gave the sermon.
But some people fell asleep....freshman....
Then after the sermon, one post grad from each class came up for a brief update. In between these, Timmy raffled off some gifts.
Here is Einstein giving us a brief update. It's like he never left kcm...pretty much everyone is working and figuring out post grad life. Some new couples (or just a couple) has formed.
Alumni Jackie Blackie Kim came up. The common word from her mouth was "oh he? oh he's working. Oh she's working...im working.." Yup everyone's working!
Mr. Jason Jaesung Kim came up to update for class of 2011. Everyone is also working, and a lot of people have left E&Y to do other things. Many people in their class have also moved to Norcal and someone in their class recently got married!
'10 Alumni Hannah Chao came up to speak! Many people in their class are finishing up their final year in pharm school! She also has a baby named Eva Chao. Search #evachao on instagram to see some adorable baby pictures.
Stole this from the alumni facebook group. The class of 10 soon to be pharm grads.
'09 Grad Daniel Kang came up to speak! Many people in his class are off doing very successful things.
We also had '08 alumni Hannah Shin! Pastor John couldn't have been more proud that she was there as the only '08 representative.
And then we finished off with '03 alumni Pastor John.
Then after we closed, alumni mingled, and some undergraduates asked the alumni for advice! Overall we are thankful to have had alumni night and we give a very special thanks to all those alumni that came out! We know how hard it can be to come out on a Thursday night after long days of work, but it means a lot to USC KCM and the imparted wisdom is all very helpful to us figuring out our lives in college!
Also class of 2011 president Jon Hwang wrote this in the class of 2014's wall after dropping off our time capsule letters that we wrote back in 2011! What an encouragement!
"It was good seeing some of you tonight! Thanks for organizing the event and for all the good work you guys are doing at USC and beyond. Thinking back, when you were freshmen, I remembered your faces were all so young and naive (not in a bad way). Seeing all of you today I saw a lot of maturity, wisdom, and growth in your faces and words. As you prepare to graduate, continue to glorify God in any and every circumstance. Wherever God takes you next, focus on Jesus and bring the fullness of his love to all those around you. I'm so proud of all of you! I can't believe my freshmen are graduating. Congratulations and God bless!
Enjoy the time capsule letters! The letter included in there is a general encouragement for all of you.
And one last thing... Pray pray pray never stop Praying!"
Some other pictures.
There's always that one person.....with all the name tags.
Kenny Seo looking at his watch and other alumni!
The entire group! Can you spot the two undergrad outliers?

Powderpuff 2014: An Overview
Looking back at yet another KCM sporting event, what actually happened? The USC Powderpuff team went in with high spirits and over a dozen plays that we had down to a tee. We walked out with a deciding win against Pepperdine and seemingly not much else to speak of. But one thing of importance should not be overlooked when looking at the results. We walked on as a team. We consisted of at least 4 spring admits, completely new to KCM and many other non-regular KCM attenders.
I’ve been excited to participate in Powderpuff for the past three years and I can say with certainty that this year was different. Practices were consistently twice a week with our head coach Michael Chung planning, scheduling, and working hard to get us ready to play.
For someone new coming, it’s hard to branch out and easy to feel like you don’t have a place; something to do amongst everyone else talking and mingling with familiar faces. With consistent practices, and a sense of purpose, new girls are immediately given something to do, and something to talk about. Speaking from experience, you are given a place to belong and a catalyst in conversation when meeting people. Of course, this is just a stepping stone to being both a successful team and drawing people in to KCM to grow in them a heart for missions. But, it has to start somewhere, and for many, it’s “See you at practice?”
We may not have won a championship, but we created a team, which has translated into friendships and the fire to carry SC pride in Powderpuff in the coming years.

Today marked the last day of morning prayer at VKC, which KCM has been holding every weekday at 7:00 AM for the past two weeks. We had a record number of attendees and read Mark 15 together. Afterward, upperclassmen repaid the freshmen for two weeks' worth of dining hall breakfasts by taking them out to Denny's.
Happy Good Friday! Take a moment to think about what this day truly means for you and me.
"But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed." --Isaiah 53:5

Softball 2014: An Overview
USC KCM softball is back on the map! I am so proud of our efforts this year, as both our USC A and B team made the playoffs. C team, of course, had the most fun and gave valiant effort!
USC A team came in to the playoffs and was matched against the defending champions and number one seed, UCLA. In typical Trojan fashion, we scored twelve runs in the first inning and ended up beating our archrivals in the upset of the tournament. Our B team was matched against Pepperdine and unfortunately lost a nail biter in the final inning. Nevertheless, USC was the only B team to make the playoffs and the future of USC softball looks bright.
In the next round, A team avenged B team’s loss to Pepperdine, beating them to advance to the championship game! Our seniors gathered together for our final game representing USC KCM. We were given a rematch against UCSD, who was our only loss prior to the playoffs. Redemption seemed eminent and we anticipated a storybook ending. The game was neck and neck throughout. We left everything out there, but this year was UCSD’s, winning by one run in the final inning to take the championship.
Although disappointed in coming in second, we reflect on how much fun we had not only during the tournament, but also in the practices leading up. I’m thankful for the friendships that were built through this event. We thank God for even allowing us to play a silly game such as softball and pray that these relationships will lead to gospel centered accountability. May God receive all glory that He deserves!

During the two weeks leading up to Easter Sunday, KCM has held morning prayer every weekday morning at 7am outside VKC! Led by Eric Park and Timmy Kang, this time of communal prayer allows us to focus on Christ and intentionally devote some time to prayer and worship.
There are only three days left! Come and join us!

MANventure 2014
For the third year in a row, USC KCM held its annual men's retreat. Following tradition, the freshmen were each secretly invited to Manventure using questionable tactics (for privacy and security reasons, photos will not be shared).
Our speaker. Pastor James from OMC, emphasized decisiveness, ntegrity, loyalty, and a fighting spirit as characteristics that all men should strive for. As men, we hope to further build and strengthen KCM as a ministry that continually seeks to glorify God!

Amor 2K14: God's Blessing and Sovereignty
Praise God for his sovereignty and provision! Amor this year was definitely a blessing -- the house was completed, dozens of children were reached through VBS, the team bonded together, and we were spared of any physical or weather-related trials.
Amor Committees and Leaders:
Chief Coordinator: Trevor Wong
Inreach Team under Inreach Captain Claire Kook (replacing James Kim)
Food Committee under Meal Captain: Tae Min Pak
VBS Team under Outreach Captain: Hannah Yoo
Construction Managers under Head Construction Manager: Peter Im
Logistics and Transportation Committee under Chief Logistics Officer: Han Choi (replacing Alicia Guo) (committee photo not available)
Medical Team under Lead Medic Timmy Kang
TRIP HIGHLIGHTS:
Pablo was our Amor pastor contact in 2013 and we were blessed to have him again this year! His easy-going personality, lighthearted humor, and gentle guidance definitely helped all of us both in construction and in personal growth.
The Kids were a ton of fun! Many of them came out each day and were eager to play, sing, and learn with us. Pray that God would continue to work in these children's hearts!
Finishing the House. This year we were so fortunate to have been able to complete the house on time! Praise God for his provision and strength.
Giving the Keys to the Martinez-Gonzales family was a very emotional moment for everyone. It's an honor to be a part of God's kingdom and to be able to bless others on His behalf.
Tacos are always delicious.
Team Unity was a huge aspect of Amor this year. There were no fights (praise God), no tension (praise God), and everyone was blessed (praise God)
Thank you for your prayers -- it definitely helped our trip's success! We are looking forward to Amor next year!
