TYPHOON PAENG
Severe tropical Paeng, which made initial landfall in Catanduanes, Bicol area, on October 29, had an impact on more than 2,000,000 people. Strong gusts and heavy rains struck all seventeen regions, causing landslides and more than 554 flooding occurrences around the nation, although half of those have now receded. What is our takeaways from this typhoon?
First of all, it served as a reminder that despite the advancement of technology, there are still a lot of factors outside our control. The thought that everything can be remote controlled, Googled, clicked with a mouse, or tapped in an app has captured our attention.
It also served as a reminder of what is valuable. We amass a lot of possessions. We put in a lot of hours at work, which is bad for our health and takes time away from our families. Typhoons and floods cause people to reassess their priorities and recognize the value of their lives.
Third, knowledge is essential for thorough planning. Given that the Philippines has been designated as one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change and other natural hazards due to its geographic location, there is a need for continuous, consistent, and vigilant environmental preservation.
