On 27 November 2019, the international conference entitled "Cyber Risks: Legal Aspects, Insurance and Claims Handling" was held at the Hotel Baltschug Kempinski in Moscow, Russia.
The conference was the first full-scale theme-based event with the participation of leading Russian and foreign specialists in the field of cyber risk insurance and loss adjusting. The participants had the opportunity to discuss current issues, which had accumulated on the Russian market, in an interactive discussion format.
The hosts of the Conference were the Union of Insurance Experts and Adjusters (UIEA, RF), AlfaStrakhovanie (RF) Insurance Company and BTVK Advisory LLP (UK).

27 ноября 2019 года в Москве (Россия) в отеле «Балчуг Кемпински» прошла международная конференция «Кибер-риски: правовые аспекты, страхование и урегулирование убытков».
Конференция стала первым полномасштабным тематическим мероприятием с участием ведущих российских и зарубежных экспертов в области страхования кибер-рисков и урегулирования убытков. Участникам была предоставлена возможность обсудить накопившиеся на российском рынке актуальные вопросы по обозначенной тематике в формате интерактивной дискуссии.
Организаторами конференции выступили Союз страховых экспертов и аджастеров (ССЭА, РФ), страховая компания «АльфаСтрахование» (РФ) и компания BTVK Advisory LLP (Великобритания).

The business conference «TECHNICAL RISKS: CLAIMS HANDLING» organized by the Union of Insurance Experts and Adjusters took place on March 20th, 2019 at Ararat Park Hayatt Hotel, Moscow, Russia.
Representatives of insurance companies, international brokers, corporate business and insurance consultants took part in the above business event.
The conference was opened by Nikolay Galushin, President – Chairman of the Board of Russian National Reinsurance Company.
During the first session, Alexey Sergeev, Director at Swiss Appraisal Russia and CIS, gave a presentation on aspects of methodology for evaluating losses relating to technical risks. Dr. Martin Eckel, Senior General Adjuster at Allianz (AGCS), Munich, shared his experience in recent development of large engineering & property claims. RusSurvey`s topic was dedicated to survey of losses at construction involving foreign companies. Sergey Bukreyev, Chief Operating Officer at KLR (Cunningham Lindsey Russia), presented a non-standard video presentation about non-standard loss adjusting within CAR/EAR and machinery breakdown insurance.
Alexey Lebedev, General Director at Matthews Daniel International (Rus), continued discussing the topic related to CAR/EAR claims handling and provided the conference participants with special aspects in insurance cover and their application to claims handling. Nigel Riley, Constraction Claims Operating Director at Willis Towers Watson (London), shared the conference participants with his experience in DSU & Concurrent delay. Viktor Petrov, Head of Dispute Resolution Practice at Vegas Lex, talked on disputes arising from CAR/EAR policies. In concluding the second session, Vladislav Timofeyev, Head of Claims at Russian National Reinsurance Company, raised the following issue in his presentation: “Why really do the CAR/EAR losses occur?” And recommended the conference participants “how to avoid most of them”.
The UIEA thanks all the participants for the great interest attributed to the business event, very informative discussions and constructive controversy.

20 марта 2019 г. в Москве в отеле «Арарат Парк Хаятт» состоялась деловая дискуссия «ТЕХНИЧЕСКИЕ РИСКИ: УРЕГУЛИРОВАНИЕ УБЫТКОВ», организованная Союзом страховых экспертов и аджастеров (ССЭА).
В мероприятии приняли участие представители страховых компаний, международных брокеров, корпоративного бизнеса, фирм, консультирующих по вопросам страхования.
Дискуссию открыл Николай Галушин, Президент – Председатель Правления РНПК.
В рамках первой сессии выступил директор компании Swiss Appraisal Алексей Сергеев с презентацией, посвященной методическим аспектам оценки убытков от технических рисков. Главный лосс-аджастер Allianz Мартин Эккель (AGCS), Мюнхен, в своем выступлении поделился последними тенденциями в урегулировании крупных имущественных убытков при страховании технических рисков международных клиентов. Экспертизе убытков на строительстве объектов с участием иностранных компаний была посвящена тема РусСюрвей. Исполнительный директор КЛР (Cunningham Lindsey Russia) Сергей Букреев представил нешаблонную видео-презентацию, касающуюся нешаблонного урегулирования убытков в результате поломок машин и повреждений объектов СМР.
Генеральный директор Matthews Daniel International (Rus) Алексей Лебедев продолжил тему, относящуюся к урегулирования убытков СМР, и рассказал об особенностях страхового покрытия и их учет при рассмотрении претензий. Директор Willis Towers Watson (Лондон) Найджел Райли поделился с аудиторией своим опытом в вопросах расчета убытков от задержки ввода в эксплуатацию (DSU) и расчета убытков от задержки в выполнении проекта (Concurrent delay). Выступление руководителя арбитражной практики Vegas Lex Виктора Петрова было посвящено спорам, вытекающим из договоров СМР. В завершение второй сессии Владислав Тимофеев, Начальник управления урегулирования убытков РНПК, поднял в своей презентации вопрос «Почему на самом деле происходят убытки при страховании СМР?» и дал в своем выступлении рекомендации, «как можно избежать большинства из них».
ССЭА благодарит всех участников деловой дискуссий за проявленный к мероприятию большой интерес и содержательные обсуждения.

The natural disasters of 2018 in figure
2018 therefore ranks among the ten costliest disaster years in terms of overall losses, and was the fourth-costliest year since 1980 for the insurance industry.
The overall economic impact was US$ 160bn, of which US$ 80bn was insured, significantly higher percentage than the long-term average of 28%. North America accounted for 68% of insured losses, Asia for 23% and Europe for 8%.
Regrettably, 10,400 people around the world lost their lives in natural disasters this year.
Number of events
The Munich Re NatCatSERVICE registered 850 events in 2018. Storms made up 42%, floods, flash floods and landslides 46%, while 7% fell into the categories of heat, cold and wildfire. The continents most affected were Asia (43%), North America (20%) Europe (14%) and Africa (13%).
North America (including Central America and the Caribbean)
163 natural catastrophe events were registered across the American continent, producing overall losses of US$ 82bn, of which US$ 53bn was insured. More than 800 people lost their lives.
The Camp Fire in California in 2018 caused the highest overall wildfire loss on record.
South America
South America experienced an extremely low number of natural disasters in 2018. The NatCatSERVICE database registered just 51 significant events. A total of 144 people were killed and losses amounted to some US$ 1bn.
Europe
Europe, with a total of 113 events and overall losses of US$ 16bn (€13.5bn). Some US$ 6bn (€5bn) was paid out in insured losses. In mid-October, the remnants of Tropical Storm Leslie battered France, Portugal and Spain. Further storm developed that primarily affected Italy, Croatia and Slovenia along the Adriatic coast. The deadliest events in 2018 also included the wildfires in Greece, which claimed 100 lives, and a cold snap in February and March that led to 77 fatalities.
Africa
Around 100 significant events were registered for the continent of Africa. Almost 1,200 people were killed, the majority in flood events and flash floods in Nigeria and Kenya.
Asia
Asia was the worst-affected continent in terms of the number of events. It accounted for 43% of all events worldwide and for 74% of fatalities in 2018. Overall losses came to US$ 59bn., US$ 18bn of the total was insured. In Japan, even though just 14 events were registered, suffered US$ 34bn in losses in, of which US$ 16bn was insured.
Indonesia was hit extremely hard by tsunami events. In September, a tremor near the city of Palu and a subsequent tsunami and further tsunami occurred after the volcano Anak Krakatau erupted. Both these events claimed more than 2400 victims.
Australia/Oceania
Around 40 events in Australia and Oceania caused overall losses of approximately US$ 1.5bn, of which US$ 540m was insured. Main events: a hailstorm in Sydney, earthquake in Papua New Guinea, and Cyclone Gita on Tonga.
