After a hiatus, Two Turntables and a Bottle of Wine returns with a topical episode revolving around 'Winter'. There's a brief discussion at the beginning of the episode to why the show's been away for a few months then an hour of ice-cold vinyl goodness.

Hello, and I'm not dead.
It's been quite a while since i've updated the blog for the podcast, and I apologize right off the top. I've been extremely busy the past few months, helping a friend start a radio station here in Toronto.
Here's a couple noteworthy things..
- I was invited to do a christmas variety show with the other hosts from the wide selection of programming on Modern Superior. It was quite fun and you can hear the entire episode (minus some of the pre/intermission/post song selecting (they were just pop xmas standards you're sick of by now)) here .
Tumblr media
(a shot from the stage as the room filled up)
  - The focus of 'Two Turntables and a Bottle of Wine' is going to flip back to how it originally was conceived to be, simply. Two Turntables and a Bottle of Wine, with a deep theme, possibly a guest and if there is a guest, some good conversation.
For a while I was getting a bit lazy with it and taping 'whatever I feel like' episodes, way too often, and even once or twice I did episodes not on vinyl, but from mp3's (shhh).
Now that I'm busier, I'll be able to put a bit more effort into this when I do get around to taping shows, and hopefully, that will come through in the end product.
- 45 Not So Special isn't dead, but for the same reason as the above, has just been neglected. I'll probably tape a batch of them the next time I get sick or get a day or two around the apartment. They require a lot of quick editing (with the reference cuts) so a five minute episode of one of those equals about the same effort as a two hour block of Two Turntables and a Bottle of Wine. Fun Fact.
- As mentioned before, I helped a friend setup a radio station here in Toronto from the ground up. Welcome TRP to your browser history.  It started as an empty basement rental and now its filled with wonderful gear, DJ's and a beer fridge. Theres well over 30 programs after one month on air, each with their own style, theme and best of all, real, live, breathing humans standing behind the DJ booth selecting/spinning/mixing stuff they care about.
An argument can be made that since it doesn't have an FM frequency, it isn't 'real radio', but if you ask me, A human being standing behind turntables/cdj's (hence; not music programming software) playing songs they actually want to play, without without guidance / regulation from advertisers and the CRTC is the TRUE essence of what radio should be, used to be, and can't be found on your standard dial in your stupid pickup truck.
- Furthermore, on the TRP topic, I'm hosting two shows on the station. Weekly at 7PM EST on Wednesdays I play and select some of the finest bands playing in small clubs and bars in Toronto over the next week, for a program i call INTERSECTIONS.
Every second Wednesday night at Midnight through to 2AM on Thursday Morning, starting on January the 14th I'll be hosting a program called LAST ORDERS, where I intersperse me noodling on a piano in a hypothetical pub with some of my favourite 'night time' music. It's real moody and concept driven, and I'm pretty excited about the first episode going to air.
- On top of this, I've culled together everything I do and started maintaing a personal website where you can keep track, and I can use as a creative portfolio.
I believe that's about it, for now, come check out the January instalment of SMITHS IS DEAD (our monthly get-together where we play nothing but The Smiths and Morrissey) at Unlovable, January 7th.

See you around.
Cheers,
Michael.

Episode Sixty-Eight of Two Turntables and a Bottle of Wine is the Second annual Rock and Roll Halloween Special. Perfect to throw on before you go out on all hallows eve.
Stream it here on the blog, or download for a limited time in mp3 format HERE.
(p.s. last years Halloween episode can be found HERE. event information is obviously a year out of date, but it's got some fun tunes. )

Episode Sixty-Seven of the podcast is another edition of the 'Autumnal Music' series, the 4th to be exact. I present some of my favourite 'walking on wet leaves-can kinda see your breath-not sure if its going to rain or snow' kinda tracks.  In addition to that I talk about a nod the podcast recently got, plus am joined by a guest who will talk about a independent radio station starting up in toronto that yours truly will be hosting a different show on.  @ttbwpodcast on twitter  http://modernsuperior.com http://twoturntablespodcast.com
heres the nod/award..
and you can check them out HERE.
play the episode in your browser here with the streaming player, or click HERE to download as an mp3 for a limited time.
cheers!
(next episode, 68, will be the halloween special, check back a few days before October 31)

Hello, long time no talk. Here's something special, maybe, for you.
Tonight here in Toronto (actually, in like, two hours, continuing until sunrise tomorrow morning) is the annual Nuit Blanche event.
Here's a couple of links so I don't have to explain it.
http://lesruesdesrefuses.com
http://www.blogto.com/arts/2014/10/the_top_30_exhibits_to_check_out_at_nuit_blanche_2014/

ok so that's over with, anyways, I've made a mixtape travel companion for the event, split to two parts, side A and side B. Each are around the forty minute mark and weave through a few different genres. I'm not telling you what's on them, as thats for you to listen to and find out, but these we're intentionally designed with the 'night wandering' mood in mind.
click each image to download a MP3 file of the respective side, put them on your mp3 player device and go get lost.
i'll probably take them down in a while, so grab them before that happens.
cheers, have fun, and say hi to me if you bump into me.

After years, and years of being on the waiting list (seriously, 4 maybe?) and dealing with, well, the next best thing, Spotify recently launched here in Canada. I spent a good chunk of my day mirroring what I have on my record shelves to what I have in my Spotify collection, thus, it was only natural to make playlists for some of the theme episodes of past podcasts.
(the odd song is missing because its not in the spotify database, but most of it's there)
You'll now be able to access music curated for the following shows (minus me talking, of course) from my account (link to follow..)
02 - Heatwave
03 - Employment/Money
04 - Music Induced Nostalgia
07 - Movie Music
11 - Animal Tracks
14 - Rainy Songs
17 - Musician Football Supporters

Two things about this episode of the podcast right off the top. Apologies for the sound quality of the first monologue, I was redlining the microphone and not monitoring myself so I didn't notice until it was too late. It gets fixed after the first block of music.
Secondly, Throughout the entire show I refer to it as 'Episode 65'. It's Episode 66. Why I kept referring to it as 65? No idea. Just awful.
Amateur.
Anywho, Episode Sixty-Six (EP066) of the show features an eclectic grab bag of 45's from my collection. Take a listen on this page, or download as an mp3 for a limited time HERE.
A few things I mention throughout the show..
Click here to pledge towards the MS ride myself and a bunch of friends are doing come Sept.07.
I'm DJ'ing again this upcoming Tuesday (August 26th) at The Beaver, 1197 Queen Street West. 11pm onwards. Come say hi if you're in the neighbourhood.
Our next Smiths / Morrissey night is Sept 03 at Unlovable. All the info is pretty much on that flyer, yeah.
thats about it! I'm sparing you the "five records a day" posting for right now as theres already enough content here.
@TTBWpodcast on twitter if you want to reach out.

Ah yes, another instalment of the "Five Records A Day" segment for the website, in where i've been loosely posting five records in sequence from my collection, almost, daily.
But first!..
I've recorded music under multiple aliases for myself over the past 12 or so years, mostly under "Baby Giraffe", but often when something doesn't quite blend, or i write from the view point of a different character, i'll slot it under the following artist.  I chose the name because I wanted it to be something quite "ungoogleable". I mean, you could google it, but you wouldn't (and shouldn't) want to. So it stays sorta hidden.
Anywho, here's a new Piss Fetish track up I recorded Sunday afternoon at home. Followed by the records after the jump, cheers!

Also, check out CHAMPION LOVER's tumblr home over here. They've got a gig coming up saturday at the dollar.

Welcome to another edition of "I'm way too busy to remember to take photos of and post five LP's a day", so I'm just going to keep this casual and post five 'for now' after the page break. cool?
Firstly,
I've recently curated a dinner service for local Restaurant and Venue Parts & Labour. It's a four-hour long journey through a few different musical genres, hoping theres something for everyone within it. It can be heard over on the Website.
Also,
In recent weeks on episodes and blog posts I had been speaking about a fundraiser a group of friends and I are doing for the MS Society of Canada. Well, the bike ride isn't until Sept.07 so you've still got time to make a pledge for that right over here, but we did manage to pull off the party part of it last wednesday evening at the Piston and thankfully raise over $2000 in just on night. Much thanks goes to everyone who came out and supported, all the business's that donated something towards the raffles, the artists who performed, everyone who helped out with the event and a special thanks to Eric and Johanna for organising the entire thing.
Click below to continue with the "Five Records A Day" post..
cheers!

hey! i dropped the ball on the whole "update every single day with 5 records" thing, again! i've been busy. here's whats coming up this week, and i'll give you a page break you can click if you don't want to see four day's worth of records. (i'm a nice guy)
WEDNESDAY night, i'm djing between/before/after bands/acts for a charity gig to raise money for the MS Ride for a team i'm on. (i know this is grammatically awful but i've just shaved and my face is bleeding and I'm about to run out of the door to see the bunnymen, so no time for English).
here's a link to the event.. Rock and Roll/Burlesque FUNdraiser.
and then on friday evening the band i play bass guitar in is playing a gig at the Cameron House. Here's a link to that event.
ok and below are a boatload of photos for aug 9,10,11 and 12th.. cheers.

In an attempt to feed this website with more content, and also tickle both my self-humilation + pride at the same time, i've decided to go through my record collection and upload 5 Albums everyday, in the order they're on my shelf. (i was going to do one (1) a day but i'd be able to have a kid and walk that kid to school before i would finish at that rate).
They're mostly in order (within reason, i rarely sort within an artist, and these get pulled and replaced constantly), and only 12" records for now. maybe i'll do my 45's after, but they're a bit boring to look at frankly.
Please enjoy some of the gems, and, embarrassments that are housed in the rarely seen private stock of myself, Michael K Newton.
Cheers :)

Episode Sixty-Five (EP065) of Two Turntables and a Bottle of Wine touches on the theme of "Summer Bum-Out" songs! Yes, those lovely downer tracks you can relate to in the summer months. Listen in.
