i think there is something truly refreshing about even the subtle aspects of lucy's character development.
a female character who was indoctrinated to internalize reproduction as her purpose but whose curious heart longed for something else even if she never allowed herself to pay any mind to those cracks in her psyche, mustering up the courage and setting herself free by leaving vault 33 when vault 33 needed its' people to reproduce the most.
consciously, she was going into danger to save her father. but subconsciously, she was motivated by curiosity for a different life and purpose. the whole thing was like a destined excuse for a journey of self-discovery.
she went from probably not realizing herself why she struggled to force a smile when stephanie mentioned motherhood, to being horrified and enraged when she thought vault 4 was using women as the breeding machines, and then she found out that every vault was actually using every women as just that, stripping them off of their bodily autonomy and choice.
i just think there is something liberating about this whole line of character development, even if it's presented in a very subtle way.
can't wait to see how her journey with cooper changes her. tbh, one of the reasons why i like lucy x cooper as a ship is bc lucy won't get pregnant by the ghoul, and it's another reason why their potential romantic dynamic would feel special.

i ship everyone with everyone in fallout but mainly lucy x cooper bc it's deliciously freaky and max x dane bc it's deliciously queer.
it's not that i dislike lucy x max, they're cute and endearing, i found myself genuinely smiling at a few of their interactions, so lucy x max is one of my ships. i just really wanted them to be my primarily ship since they are the canon couple, but the show doesn't let the audiences to gradually and organically come to ship them, instead it *tells* us that they are the canon romance the moment they meet by presenting them as this standard "a girl meets a boy" dynamic and that's why i can't fully get into this ship. tbh, i think i'd ship them more if it didn't feel like the show was forcing this pairing down my throat.
both of these mains could benefit from the relationships with the characters that'd enrich each's character development. the ghoul and dane are the characters that could do that for lucy and max respectively, imo.
lucy x the ghoul is this deliciously twisted dynamic that has a multilayered subtext. it's as hot as it's wrong. as a viewer i was more invested in their interactions. the intriguing nature of their relationahip and the tension in their scenes made for a better chemistry as well. even shipping aside, they are this unlikely duo of two complicated individuals linked by destiny that's immensely engaging and fun to observe.
max x dane is another gem. other than the believability of their relationship, it's a good representation. and they definitely had a great chemistry. i hope to see more of their interactions, backstory and their relationship deepen in the next season(s) bc their relationship has a potential to be refreshing.
the potential "enemies to lovers" of lucy x cooper and "friends to lovers" of max x dane simply seems more gripping than "the lovers" of lucy x max, at least to me. tough, maybe they will make lucy x max more interesting in the next season(s)? we'll see.
in the end of the day, i hope that there is going to be "ship and let ship" mentality in this fandom with no dumb ship wars or dramas.

Rewatching the fallout show and I noticed this little detail during the duel between The Ghoul and Maximus in Filly that I missed the first time but absolutely love, where Maximus destroys the wooden bridge Cooper is standing on, causing him to fall flat on his ass. He drops the act and his silly little accent for a moment and says "goddamn, that hurt!" outwardly, as though he is complaining to the set crew, which, in his mind, he probably is. I love this small moment so much because it's so rare that he sets down "The Ghoul," and it shows his mentality, his way of operating in this world. To him, it is all a set, and he's just really deep in character. It also suggests that this man did not even do his own stunts as an actor, and that his "shrug off the bullets" act is purely that, an act. This man is in so much pain, but doesn't dare show it out of fear. Lucy is absolutely going to break down his act next season, and I'm so excited to see it.

I am nothing if not a details oriented person. I like to suss them out. I like to see the whole picture so I can paint one myself and of course, I've been looking at the picture of Cooper Howard.
Here are a few things I've noticed. As I've stated before, Cooper is wearing the same outfit as he was in the begging of the show. That blue, white and yellow cowboy outfit. His signature outfit. That's still there, hidden underneath the dirt and the grime and the old, ratty coat, leather vest and bandolier. You can see it in the details of the shirt and the silhouette of the hat. That has been discussed so I'm glossing over that.
Another thing I've noticed is his voice. Specifically his accent. The Ghoul and Cooper Howard have a different accent. Cooper is subdued. He's a regular man with a regular voice. Sure there is a bit if a drawl to it, but not the way The Ghoul has one. Anyone from the south knows what a real southern accent is and what a fake one is. The Ghoul uses a fake one. A larger than life one. That old Hollywood John Wayne fakeass accent. Sure his voice is more fried and that could thicken up an accent some, but that doesn't mean his accent would get more pronounced like THAT.
He's acting the part of The Ghoul. Probably to protect himself in this hellscape that he has been living in for centuries. Its clear that The Ghoul is not who he really is. Its a persona to be slapped over his real one to keep him safe so he can get to his family. I can't wait to see the next season when Lucy and her gung ho, be a good person attitude starts to rub at him more and peel back his layers to press into the soft underbelly underneath. Wether or not he wants to acknowledge it, (which he does. He knoes it already, said it already.) She's his mirror into who he truly is. He might corrupt her to keep her safe (evidenced by the fact that when he cut off her finger, she was given a rotten one in its stead) but she will be the one to pull him back from the brink of losing himself. (It was HER finger he sewed onto himself after all. Her pristine, beautiful smoothskin finger.)
I could also say the arc between Cooper's prewar self becoming disenchanted with vault tec/being betrayed by his wife juxtaposed by Lucy's arc of finding her dad/learning how he betrayed her mom and the world is also a pretty serious mirror as well.
I just.... I've got a lot of feels about Cooper and the symbolism that went into him, plus how he and Lucy are pretty clearly mirrors of eachother. I love it all and I'm gonna need more of this injected right into my brain hole. I need to lick the walls of that studio because HOLY SHIT this show has so much love and care put into everything it does.
