Old footage from 2015 showing the area around the Clackamas recovering from the 2014 Pit 36 Fire. Footage of the same area in 2023 shows the effect of the 2020 Riverside Fire, a stark difference in severity.

This area was previously a densely wooded temperate rainforest, lush, densely wooded. The kind you feared walking off of the path too far for fear of getting forever lost. Now it feels more like a high desert.

Nature will find a way. But, I think this is going to leave a permanent scar on this ecosystem and landscape.

After shooting this footage I worked on putting together this video, but shelved it as I couldn't move past the somber and dystopian feelings. Just slow long shots of destruction. It's a hard video to watch. And for that very reason, I'm uploading it.
