the thing that frustrates me the most is when people see someone’s art and they’re like “this is all talent, i’m not cut out for art” and then they give up. like i hate the idea of talent because artists spend hours and days and years studying art and practicing to get better both conceptually and technically but apparently at the end of the day it’s all just talent. and that creates such a massive gap between artists and non-artists bc these “talent” people never even try to draw or to understand art beyond just aesthetics. and i think that that’s when art loses its value because the only people who are willing to appreciate it wholly are the artists themselves. everyone else just thinks “i could never make that” or “but why is this considered art” and moves on with their lives without even giving it a try. art is so inherently human and it’s such a natural way to express yourself and i think that if more people gave it a try they would see the value in it and respect it more.

I know it's not the worst thing about capitalism. But I do think there's something really *bad* about the fact that between lack of leisure time, lack of disposable income, and "hustle culture" mindset that for many, many, many people the primary/only way they are able to express their creativity and artistic aesthetics is through consumer culture. Buying stuff and displaying that stuff.

When like...making stuff. Drawing, painting, weaving, crafting, sketching is like, baked deep deep into our bones as humans.

But I know so many adults who haven't like...drawn a picture since they were children.
