NAME Sergeant Razeet WHO IS THIS PERSON Sergeant of his battalion of 20 black makaki riders in the Assiraz army GENDER Male AGE 29

Razeet was a comparatively minor character I created to be the face of the black horses escorting Assili back home towards the end of SH in the first draft, but Sallie took such a shine to him that he's become a character now. He's a sweetie, very humble and softly-spoken, but slowly gets the confidence to have conversations with and even talk back to his empress over the course of the few mentions he gets in SH.

Those who ride black makakis are like the Raykinian King's Own, except they don't focus on one weapon and are expected to be masters of all. He's therefore not as much of a savant with any one particular weapon like the Own boys are, but he's at least First Company level with anything you put in his hand.

And with Razeet, that's all the art for the Big Book of Stuff completed, woo! Technically I haven't needed any of it, it just makes it look prettier for me. Now I can get back to drawing just general art instead of it having to be a reference.

NAME Prince Domasson WHO IS THIS PERSON Adoptive son of Crown Princess Evelandel and Crown Prince Jeorgenig of Llayad GENDER Male AGE 5

Llayad has a tradition of adoption, most especially amongst the nobility and, of course, same sex couples because they haven't invented IVF yet. Evelandel herself was adopted (new info since I created her), not because she was an orphan but because she was born on the most auspicious day ever and that's clearly going to make a good queen. Her whole family came to live at Wensleydale Castle with her, so she still has both her parents, as well as the king and queen as adoptive parents. She therefore always intended on adopting a child, though she did so traditionally by adopting an orphan.

Domasson was adopted at age three, after his mother died giving birth to who would have been his baby brother, and his father, idk, got some disease or something. He knew he was gonna die, heard the crown princess was looking to adopt, and took his son to the castle. Evelandel took little Domasson in and allowed his father to live there until he inevitably carked it.

Domasson himself is a happy, bouncy kid, though he does get the sads on occasion and cries for his daddy, mostly when he's alone in his bed at night. It's been happening less and less as time goes on, though, and he's recently started calling Evelandel and Jeorgenig Mama and Papa, so progress is happening. Also he has ADHD because why not.

NAME Prince Nicolinaus WHO IS THIS PERSON Son of Crown Princess Evelandel and Crown Prince Jeorgenig of Llayad GENDER Male AGE 6

Nicolinaus is a serious young man because I haven't got one yet amongst the Llayan kids. He especially wants his big sister, who's next in line after Mama to the throne, to be a bit more serious about her responsibility. Boy needs to lighten up more, because the reality is the king and queen of Llayad don't do much. He'll probably end up on the council when he's old enough, and Annakarina will be stoked to have him.

Rainbow Eucalyptus Trees

Eucalyptus deglupta is a species of tall tree, commonly known as the rainbow eucalyptus, Mindanao gum, or rainbow gum that is native to the Philippines, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. It is the only Eucalyptus species that usually lives in rainforest, with a natural range that extends into the Northern Hemisphere. It is characterized by multi-colored bark which starts with bright green patches that will gradually transform into orange, maroon, and blue hues.

NAME Commander Kashmir WHO IS THIS PERSON Kashmir belongs to Ku! He's one of the Assiraz Commanding Circle, who lead the army GENDER Male AGE 68

Kashmir is a very traditional man, very respectful of his fellow humans regardless of rank, and especially admiring of women. He doesn't talk much, very smooth, calm and thoughtful, earning him a deserving reputation of being a man who listens. Kashmir doesn't play politics, rather he hates to see allies in conflict and often plays peacekeeper, especially amongst the trainees (though he's not really one to pull rank.) Kashmir's a highly-valued member of the Circle.

Kashmir comes from a generations-old Assiraz family and is very proud of his Colours. He has five sisters--one artist, two investigators and two palace staffers--and he holds them all in high esteem.

As a child (though he's one of those who it's hard to believe ever was a child) he trained with General Nazir, Shizaaqa's father. He progressed slowly as it's not in him to push too hard, but eventually rose through the ranks to the Commanding Circle at 45.

Next group to come, the rest of Shizaaqa's advisory panel. The first two have been Fern and Ylang Ylang, whose proviles have been more about their clandestine activities. These ones are just making up the numbers. There's no set number of advisors on a queen's or empress' panel, though it's always an odd number, usually 5, 7 or 9. Shiz has five, because I can't be bothered making more than that for a bunch of people who're going to have no affect on the plot Shizaaqa doesn't believe she needs more cos she's arrogant.

I realised I have no characters at all starting with P, so here's one. I like drawing old people and all the creases and saggy bits =3

NAME Advisor Paandis WHO IS THIS PERSON Member of Empress Shizaaqa's advisory panel, and was previously on her mother, Empress Yasina's, panel GENDER Female AGE 72

Hard as nails and 100% dedicated to the throne, though she held more respect for Empress Yasina than she does Shizaaqa. She used to have grand ambitions under Yasina, but they don't align with Shizaaqa's. Over the past… however long Shizaaqa's been in charge, and it's been a couple of decades, Paandis has gone from irritated, to resigned, to fully on Shizaaqa's side. She'll always back her empress, no matter who it is. She's also been working on Assili, moulding her mind to heed the advice of her advisors, whoever they end up being. She knows it's not going to be her--on the off chance Shizaaqa dies before Paandis, she's retiring--but she can still do something for the next generation.

I think she came out a little younger than I'd intended? I was going for mid-40s but I feel like she looks more early 30s. Ah well, they use a lot of creams and anti-aging stuff in Kazin. Her makeup and Colours are fun.

NAME Advisor Eiraz WHO IS THIS PERSON Member of Shizaaqa's advisory panel, and Shizaaqa's… cousin once removed? Yeah. Her mother (Peshna, coming up) and Shizaaqa's mother are cousins GENDER Female AGE 46

Way more self-important than she has any right to be because of her distant relationship to the empress, though the two were pretty close growing up and hold very similar ideals. She loves her tiny baby cousin Assili and does a hella good job sucking up to her to keep her position when she takes the throne. She's a little sus on Isama (alias Ylang-Ylang) but Shiz doesn't seem to worry about her so she's sure it's fine.

Peshna just wears makeup to cover how tired she is. Poor old lady.

NAME Advisoris Peshna WHO IS THIS PERSON Member of Shizaaqa's advisory panel, and the former empress, Yasina's, cousin. Also Eiraz' mother GENDER Female AGE 67

Peshna is so tired :< She's been on the advisory panel since her cousin, Yasina, took the throne, and now, with Shizaaqa there, she feels like she's the only one who actually gives a shit about the rest of the empire. As in, its people, not just its international reputation or how much more money she can get into its coffers. She's not entirely wrong. She's constantly fighting a losing battle, carefully crafting her words to avoid pissing off the empress, but ultimately never manages to get anything done because Shizaaqa just doesn't care. She had hopes for Assili, but seeing her grow up so much in her mother's image… Peshna's just tired.

(The -is suffix on Advisoris indicates a familial relationship to the empress. Same applies to army boys, with Commanderis, Sergentis, etc.)

I realised only after I'd finished her skin that I'd forgotten the yellow-red-blue undertone on her face, so it's a bit flat compared with what it could be, but I do like her face. Especially her nose. I love a good nose.

Mumbli is fiiiiiine and she knows it. She loves to flounce around with her shawl and be fabulous, cos she is. She will most frequently flounce around the Golden Thrai and try fruitlessly to buy Kal out. Kal, of course, steadfastly refuses cos the Thrai is his baby.

Mumbli and Kal used to be married, until Mumbli miscarried and the two fell out over that--she couldn't move on, he moved on too fast, and they could never see eye-to-eye on the matter.

Absolute hardarse Captain Tu <3 God I loved writing her. This is just how I imagine her, hard as nails and supremely confident in her own power and superiority.

NAME Captain Tu WHO IS THIS PERSON Main character from The Storyteller, childhood friend of Sen. Captain of, like, three ships throughout the story? GENDER Female AGE Deceased, mid-60s from memory?

There's… not a lot I can say about Tu that's not spoilers. She leaves Sen as a week-old baby with her adoptive family because nobody on her ship at the time was breastfeeding. Every year, she'd come back to see Sen growing up and bring her presents and stories about her life in the big wide world, with the plan on taking her on her ship when she was old enough. That's pretty much all I can say about her. SO much fun to write her, tho, omg. I loved The Storyteller.

BRIGHT blue eyes, tall, broad shoulders and thicc arms from a life at sea. I said more about her in SH than I did in The Storyteller XD Anyway. I was planning on drawing them how they'll look in SH, which will be mid-40s, but came across this ref who looked too perfect to pass up, so here they are as they were in their own story, approaching 30.

NAME Captain Sen WHO IS THIS PERSON Captain of the Red Cacao, a Tsaythi bounty hunter ship. POV character from The Storyteller GENDER Female AGE 46

Man I loved writing this pirate story. Sen was the POV character but Tu, who I'll get to, was the main character, which was something I'd always wanted to do. Every chapter Sen gets a year older, starting with her birth and finishing at her 30th birthday. She's rescued as a baby by Tu and brought up by a family in a little fishing village on the coast, because apparently a village on-shore populated by bastards is a better life than on Tu's ship. The story is then her learning about who Tu is, from Tu herself, from her crew, from rumours and history and everything she can find.

Sen herself is hardened by her experiences with Tu and, by the time she gets her cameo in SH, she and her ship, the Red Cacao have earned a reputation as formidible pirate hunters. Sen, while 100% legitimate birth herself, makes a point of crewing her ship with bastards who don't get a chance anywhere else.

Comparatively tiny next to Sen's imposing figure, but you still don't want to mess with her. Particularly love how her face came out. Very pleased I've made the change to Aboriginal Australian look for the Tsaythis =3

NAME First Mate Kaiji WHO IS THIS PERSON First mate of the Red Cacao, a Tsaythi bounty hunter ship. Sen's wife GENDER Female AGE 46

Kaiji was the baby in the family who adopted Sen, and effectively the reason her parents took Sen in, because her mother was already breastfeeding. They grew up together, but in Tsaythi culture they're not sisters. When Kaiji, as a burgening teenager introduced to the concept of two women loving each other, recognises Sen as being frigging hot, it's therefore not at all weird that she gets romantically interested. Except that same sex relations are weird to Tsaythis anyway. Not forbidden or taboo, just weird and impractical.

Kaiji is more head-over-heart than her wife, often the voice of reason when Sen looks like reacting without thinking. They make a good pair.

Drawn from a footballer who very obviously had a mouthguard in so I tried to make that not happen when I was drawing him and now I think his top lip is too pulled in. Oh well. I otherwise like his gritty look.

NAME Jed WHO IS THIS PERSON Thiras' estranged husband GENDER Male AGE 40

Jed and Thiras married when Thiras was 19, after she and her mother joined his crew in the search for a wind witch to teach Thiras. Jed's ship had such a wind witch, meaning it's a pretty snazzy ship, because wind witches can pick and choose where they crew and of course they're going to pick the best. She fell in love with Jed as a teenager, because he's hot, then they got married and had a daughter, Kesi, who you'll meet in a sec.

After nine years of marriage, Thiras told Jed and Kesi she was a bastard, but stopped short of telling them who her father was because she could tell things were going poorly. Jed of course told his captain, and the ship dropped Thiras and her mother at Ni-Badra never to see them again.

Jed regrets this every day, cos Thiras is frigging awesome and to abandon her just cos she was a bastard… yeah, he regrets it, but he's not man enough to look for her and try and repair things. It wouldn't take much to track her down--she was in Ni-Badra for a couple of years, and has been in Ryas for the last five years, and she doesn't make a point of hiding, but nope. Can't do it.He'll still keep wearing his short bandana and show hair in her memory, tho.

Head tilted back and a toothy grin? Why would I do this to myself? She came out all right, though, I think. Jaw a bit wonky but I'm happy with her eyes and mouth. I was debating whether to draw Kesi as the teenager she is, or the 7-year-old Thiras left behind. Just in case I do anything with either of these two, tho, I decided to draw her currently.

NAME Kesi WHO IS THIS PERSON Thiras' estranged daughter GENDER Female AGE 17

Kesi thought her mum was the absolute coolest when she was a kid, emulating her with her sense of style (as much as Tsaythis have style) by growing her hair into dreadlocks. Thiras did a good job of teaching her being a bastard doesn't change people at all, so Kesi was always kind to those on-shore but cultural bias is hard to shake and she still felt like they were inferior. When Thiras spilled the beans and admitted to Jed and Kesi that she was a bastard herself, Kesi didn't understand why her mum--and her Nanna--had to leave the ship.

After Thiras had left, Jed explained it wasn't so much about her being a bastard, but more about how Thiras had lied. As Kesi grew up, that stuck with her and morphed into her thinking all those life lessons Thiras had taught her, about bastards being fine, actually, was all just Thiras protecting her own skin. She still carries those lessons and is still nice to the people on-shore, cos they're not lying about who they are, but she does feel betrayed by her mother. That said, she keeps the dreads, just in case Thiras might recognise her some day and Kesi can show her a piece of her mind.

Time for the final art of the Big Book of Stuff, about a dozen headshots for characters. They're all pretty random and, plot-wise, extremely minor, so I'll group those together who make sense, starting with Sebastien and Florien! Sebastien is Sallie's, and in hindsight his eyes might be a bit wonky. I do quite love his shirt and hair, tho.

NAME Sebastien WHO IS THIS PERSON Sebastien belongs to Sallie! He was created to be a boyfriend for Kurae. Lucibella is his little sister GENDER Male AGE idk, like, early 30s? We never gave him an age, I don't think.

Sebastien was a chef in a Llayan castle, which is the dream job of any Llayan chef because of the financial security and also your budget is huge and of course you have to at least taste everything you're making. The best nobility will even let you eat the same stuff you're making for them, omg. For Seb, though, he ended up with extremely picky eaters for employers. Sucks arse. When his parents died, they left their inheritance to Sebastien's older brother, Florien, who used the money to move them all to Ni-Yana where Seb could open a restaurant where his food would be appreciated.

For this, Seb is eternally grateful. He spends most of his life caring for his critically ill big brother, the rest of the time working on new recipes and building the restaurant he's always aware is owned by said brother. It's a hard, hectic, literally thankless life, until finally opening night arrives. One of his patrons, who is there at the opening of every new restaurant in Ni-Yana, is King's Own swordsman, Kurae. He's quiet, unobtrusive, but Seb can tell he likes what he's served. He comes back, again and again. He brings the other swordies to show off this new, Llayan restaurant.

After, like, three years, Sebastien finally approaches him. In all this time, Kurae's never ordered wine with his meal, only ever Raykinian beer, so Seb offers him wine. Kurae allows it. At the end of the night, Seb offers him a kiss. Kurae allows it. And there was much rejoicing =3

Florien is Ku's! I originally had him properly pallid and grey, but he looked more zombie, more dead than chronically ill, so I gave him a bit of a fever-induced flush to his cheeks and some sweaty shine, cos it's a lot of work being in constant pain. Also stringy, sickly hair. Still a handsome man, though.

NAME Florien WHO IS THIS PERSON Florien belongs to Saku! He's Sebastien's and Lucibella's older brother. GENDER Male AGE A few years older than Sebastien

Florien has some unidentified illness which has him in constant pain. Yamin has tried healing him, but whatever it is basically just constantly eats at his flesh, so Yamin's healing will give him relief for like ten minutes, but the added pain of the actual healing process lingers (Yamin calls it the memory of pain) for long enough that it pretty much means nothing. Until she can figure out what the actual illness is, all she can heal is his symptoms, so. Suckage.

The constant pain gives Florien one hell of a mean streak. He has no filter, no concept of the work Seb puts into caring for him or the sacrifices he makes in his own life to keep Florien as comfortable as he can be. Seb reminds himself Florien's in constant pain, reminds himself of the sacrifices Florien has made just so Seb can follow his own dreams, but jesum christmas it's hard.
