Dressed and posed as Manet’s Olympia, while Morris works with plywood sheets, Scheemann explored how history marginalized Manet’s model, Victorine Meurent, herself an artist; Schneemann was interested in how a woman, known in her own time as a painter, has come to be known in history as a face and a body.
