"Damn," he sighed. The path of a stoner was littered with lost lighters, forgotten by time. Oh well. He'd just have to wait until he got to that store, or back home where he had a nice little collection of cool lighters. "But you know, you should think about picking one up for yourself. They come in handy for more than just smoking."

"No, sorry, I don't smoke" Abby replied to the other shaking her hands in denial. "But I know that the convenience store at the corner sells it".

Jim blinked. Then he looked at the stranger, and then the food, and then the stranger again. He smiled. "Thanks. Good thing I like spicy food, huh?" He picked one up anyway, adding it to his little plate. "You not a fan?"

This was not Hera's world. She was a pilot, a fighter. Dances, talking it wasn't her scene. But she's play the role, play the game if she had to. She'd be here and smile and nod. At some point she'd slip away. "Careful that is spicy." She pointed to the food the person was about to pick up.

She seemed so proper. He grinned, and then his eyebrows furrowed in confusion when she spoke about the bike. He pointed a thumb back towards it. "A- a motorcycle? You've never seen one before?" That was a bit odd. Or, maybe not. Jim couldn't be the only one in town that had a motorcycle, right? Idly, he thought to himself that it was good he hadn't brought his solar surfer. Not much room on it for two people anyway, but that would've really thrown her for a loop. "Really? Huh. Well, uh, I've been working on that bike since I was, like, sixteen? So it's mostly custom parts and my fine tuning. Perfectly safe, I promise. Here, I'll show you." He motioned with his head for her to follow him to the bike. Then he set his helmet down on one of the handlebars. He patted the front seat. "This is where I will sit. And here," he patted the back seat, which had a little back rest and a sizeable seat cushion. "This is where you'll sit. We'll tuck your dress up so it doesn't get dirty, and I can put anything you want in the back storage compartment." He realized she was still holding the box with the corsage. "Oh. Here, by the way, let me help you with that." He smiled softly at her as he took the box back, opening it and taking out the corsage. He set the box down on the back seat while he gently took her wrist, sliding the corsage on it. "There. Now it's officially a date, I guess."

penelope waited for the other in a mix of both anticipation and excitement and nerves. what had she signed herself up for? as she waited patiently pulled out what appeared to be a box. this kept taking more and more turns. as he came closer she noticed it was a little thing of flowers. that was so kind and thoughtful. it she couldn't help but smile. "i'm penelope, yes. it is very nice to properly meet you, jim." she took his hand in hers and gave it a soft shake. this had to be as awkward and nerve-wracking for him as it was for her. luckily she was fairly good at swallowing the nerves down. "yes, about that," she motioned with her head to the motorcycle down and in front of them. "i am quite fine with riding on it, but---i do not think i have ever seen one before." she wondered if the bottom of her dress would get messy, but she supposed she could worry about that later.

So, here's the thing. Jim had mostly signed up for a bling date with what felt like his mother's hand holding the imaginary pen. And he wanted to show her he was trying to be a good person, so maybe going on a blind date would be good for him? Either way, Jim was raised to be a gentleman, so whoever he was taking out tonight was going to be getting his absolute best. He just hoped it would be enough. Showing up on his motorcycle? Probably put him at a bad start, he thought, as he pulled up to pick up his date. So, a second too late for him to do anything about it. But Jim didn't own a car, and hey, didn't some girls find motorcycles exciting? He was taking off his helmet, and parking properly-ish, maybe, where he was pretty sure was the right apartment complex, and more importantly he was hearing a girl yell? His eyes landed on the source of the voice - a redhead, in a pretty sparkling pink dress, standing near the doorway - and he smiled, a look of relief washing over his face. "Okay, this is good. I mean, because I uh-" Jim quickly moved to the back of his bike, opening the little compartment that acted like a mini-trunk. He pulled out a plastic box with a corsage in it. The corsage was pink. He grinned, walking up to give it to her. "I got the color right. I think. Penelope, right? I'm Jim." He tucked his helmet and held out a hand for her to shake. He was a bit nervous. She was very pretty and very small, maybe a full foot shorter than him. "It's nice to meet you. I hope you don't mind the bike. I promise you, you will be wearing a helmet, and I will be driving extra cautious. If that's not okay, we can totally call an uber."

this was absolutely terrifying. penelope loved going to balls, but she wasn't sure what compelled her to put herself in for a blind date. this was going with a total stranger. what if they ended up hating each other? that was all that filled her mind was as she paced at the top of her stairs of her first floor apartment. they had been in communication briefly about her being picked up but not much beyond that. what the heck was she going to be picked up in? she heard a sound coming around the corner. and it caused her to stop pacing. she turned around to see someone on a strange machine driving up to the apartment building. she looked confused. "are you---my date?" she sort of called out to the other. it was vague and she hoped this was the right person and that she was making no sense.

Jim was finishing the end of his shift by resetting some of the tables in the inn. When he was approached by someone he didn't recognize, that somehow knew his name... he regarded the other suspiciously. "Sorry, man, do I know you?" Something about the guy did seem familiar... but it felt fuzzy to Jim. Like a dream. "I've been here pretty much my whole life as far as I can remember."

b.e.n. had wandered into the Benbow Inn. They'd ended up forgetting what they were supposed to do and had thought the inn looked cool, so they walked in. They look around, taking everything in. They notice someone that looks familiar, and walk closer to him. They gasp when they see who it is. "Jim? I can't believe you're here! How long have you been here?"

"Ahhh, gotchya." Jim didn't really know the difference between a guitar and a bass, except that they maybe sounded a little different. Either way, a cool instrument was a cool instrument. "That's cool. You write your own stuff or play covers?"

"It's a bass but thanks." Monty said, putting it back in the case. "Not in a band, per se, but more freelance for now."

That was kind of a loaded question. Jim took a deep breath and exhaled as he thought. "Uhhh, I was that kid who was into math and science. History was sometimes interesting, too, I guess. Mostly now I like to study engineering, though. Building things. Mechanics. Stuff like that. I like to make my own inventions."

In an environment where most students paying to be taught by experts, they have to be able to work with and under those authority figures effectively. So the young man's opinion is a remarkably sensible stance to hold, if the other already knows he won't succeed in a classroom setting of this type. Chu Wanning looks the other over, asking with level curiosity, "--What is it you most enjoy learning?"

Jim grimaced. Admittedly, he'd been a little distracted. They'd seemed to pop up out of nowhere, but he knew that wasn't the case. He had to pay better attention. "Sorry, again. Sometimes when I'm on this thing I get kind of lost in the freedom." He scratched the back of his head, thinking how he could atone for almost hitting the other. "Want me to, I don't know... buy you a coffee or something? As an apology?"

ghis backed out of the way before the person riding by could hit them. her eyebrows furrowed as she glared at him. "yeah, it could've. what the hell, are you not paying attention to where you're going?"
