The RNG Gods
Been taking a break and haven’t cooked up any new looks recently. Almost forgot about Noblegarden so I spent the last couple days of it gathering eggs. Didn’t realize there was a demonic duck boss until the final night so I frantically ran all my toons who were 60 and up.
My human pally went first and got the boots. The next 5 just got the egg. So incredibly disappointing. I seriously considered stopping there but decided to continue since it was my only chance. My 7th toon got the belt AND the flying carpet mount! Someone else got the belt again and another got the shirt.
I just wanted the transmogs - I wasn’t expecting to get the mount. I had read how some people tried so hard to farm it with over 100 kills while others got it on the first try and the injustice of it all.
I have a theory about farming based on long experience: The more you want something, the more the capricious RNG gods will deny you.
Back before transmogs were a thing, the earliest item I tried for was the Raven Lord mount from heroic Sethekk Halls. I farmed that dungeon religiously for who knows how long. Never dropped. I finally gave up and went on to other things. I was randomly passing through one day and, on a whim, decided to do a quick run. I was barely paying attention, moving quickly on autopilot.
The reins of the Raven Lord dropped.
It’s like the person who never plays the lottery stopping at the convenience store for a snack on their way home from work and buying the winning ticket.
Without fail, my successes usually come about when I’m not really paying attention to what I’m doing or deciding this will be the last attempt before I switch to something else and ceasing to care altogether about the run’s outcome. While listening to a lecture, I got all the leather gear in a dungeon on two runs. Unheard of.
I badly want the things to drop or I wouldn’t be farming! But I try to be zen about it as much as possible and treat it as a journey. Obviously it doesn’t always work and I’m sure someone with a background in statistics can explain why but all I have are vibes. So maybe relax, put on your favorite music, and don’t pay too much attention to the loot drops. You just might finally get what you were looking for. Good hunting!

I got a new computer for Christmas so I was finally able to finish the Diablo 4 campaign. Visually it's beautiful and now that I have a computer with enough memory, I can admire all the details. I really want to love this game but I feel like I'm too casual a player for it.
I had somehow managed to avoid finding out how it ended so I had no clue what was going to happen after I entered hell. I guess I wasn't too surprised? The battle cinematic was gorgeous. Blizzard's art and animation are always top-notch. Spoilers below.
I could sympathize with Lilith's grief over losing Rathma and her desire to guide and protect Sanctuary in the manner she thought best. I could even understand Inarius wanting to be able to go back home but he was still a jerk who murdered his son for a heaven that didn't want him so I wasn't sad when he died. That spinning maneuver with his wings was awesome though.
Neyrelle leaving with the soulstone at the very end was something I should have expected. I bet she'll become the end boss in the next game/expansion. Some serious dark wanderer vibes there.
Mephisto's skull-wolf look was pretty rad so I hope we get to see it again. Interacting with him when he helps you really got me thinking that these individuals are bound by their natures and therefore cannot act otherwise so there will always be conflict between heaven and hell.
Lorath surviving was shocking though. Totally thought he would buy the farm. I love his old cynical self. I hope we get more of him too.

Dragonriding now being available outside of DF is cool. I think it's good for when you want to get somewhere fast, especially if you're missing a flight point or there are none nearby. Regular flying is still best for me for farming ore/herbs. But I like having options for getting around so I appreciate the update.

Tried out the new NPC followers in the first 3 DF dungeons. Went better than expected. I tanked all 3 so I didn't activate the option for letting a follower lead. If you aren't tanking, you need to turn that on to make the tank run ahead and pull. You get a paladin tank, druid healer, and DPS are mage, hunter, and shaman. Someone told me them playing hunter replaced the hunter NPC. Not sure who you'd replace if you're, like, a warlock. Haven't leveled my alts enough to find out yet.
Some of the things that could be improved:
Healer stands way too close to the action (maybe she stands further away if you're not tanking?)
Healer sometimes stays mounted even after the fight starts and won't dismount until she needs to heal
Can't use my revive spells on them (at least as a tank - maybe healer role would allow it? Have to check)
They engage immediately without giving you a chance to pull a group where you want
They run kind of spread out so you can't really weave your way between the clumps of trash if you're trying to avoid killing a lot of mobs
I have the 2nd painting quest to do the next 4 dungeons so that will be interesting. I may even try running a healer at some point, something I have never done. They're a bit squishy but they do decent damage. I did lose all but the mage twice from dots. I tried to keep the healer up but wasn't always successful. All in all, not the worse dungeon experience of my life. It's a really nice feature and I'm glad they put it in. Apparently there are possibly plans to expand it to other dungeons?

Remastered version
To this day, this is the music video for the song. I remember seeing it probably not too long after it was originally uploaded in 2005. Someone on a MUD showed it to me, saying a friend of a friend had made it. Dunno how true that was but I really liked the storytelling. Sounds like the creator may have since passed away. If so, pour one out for Dimoroc. Godspeed.

I really wish I could be a fly on the wall when blizz devs are planning new expansions. The decisions to have different quality mats, currencies that take up bag space, etc. in DF absolutely fascinate me.

It started with "that's a neat water staff" and ended with "how eye-searingly blue-green can I make this?" (Answer: Very)

Sat on this one for a long while since I only used it briefly. Was trying to match the swords but she's not the kind to rock skirts or glowing armor.

I feel like you should name the animals you tame as a hunter. I'm especially delighted when I see a named pair with a theme like Coffee and Cream. It's the little things in life, ya know?

Putting some of those trading post cosmetics to good use. Been on a quest for a good frost look that doesn't rely on Glacial items. Not sure I completely nailed it but I still think it looks pretty cool.
Get it?
Pretty cool? Frost mage?

The shield's from DF but wouldn't look out of place in Bastion. It prompted this beige with blue accents look.
