Assignment Work Report
1. What goals did you set out prior to the placement? Were they achieved? Use specific examples within your answer.
The goals I set out for myself prior to starting placement were that I would be exceptional in my anatomy, get familiar with the equipment, successfully create and assist clients with exercise programs for rehabilitation, assist clients with stretching and breathing techniques, learn how to do administrative tasks, as well as get familiar/interact better with clients. I have been able to help clients with stretching and breathing techniques, as well as getting to interact with clients better. I still have trouble creating individualized exercise programs for clients and planned on researching more about this topic to do better. I l also have some trouble with my anatomy and kept needing to refresh on that. I am getting better at building RAPPORTs with clients.
 2. What were the most valuable/rewarding aspects of your work experience? AND least valuable?
The most valuable aspects were when I got to talk to clients and know more about their lives. I learned a lot about their condition through them and they shared experiences with me. The least valuable aspect of my work experience has to be that the rehabilitation process was not individualized for different patients. They would have similar conditions but the processes to treat them would be the same throughout. I know from what other people tell me that that should not be the case.
3. What technical skills were learned throughout the practicum?  Was there an opportunity to develop any skills obtained prior to the placement?
I learned how to properly stretch clients and palpate the injury. I also learned how to use the machines properly and knew what they were used for so when patients asked, I knew what to say. I went and better enhanced my anatomy because I knew that would benefit me the most prior to placement. I had an orientation prior to my placement where I familiarized with the clinic to get a feel for what was to come. There were also specific classes prior to placement that helped me during placement to understand things better (exercise prescription & injuries contraindications).
4. What did you learn about the personnel dynamics of your placement? Social, political, environmental facilitators/barriers to productivity?
My placement was in a good environment in that there was a doctor’s clinic right by the area. In this way, many patients would come and the clinic would be busy. I also feel that a small clinic will have patients with similar conditions coming in and that is not something I look for when I am choosing a workplace. The physiotherapist was barely around to supervise the PTAs and would leave them to do everything. This created a barrier as some clients were not comfortable getting treated by the PTA without have the PT supervise.
5. Did you receive adequate training and supervision? What could make your experience better?
No, I did not receive adequate training and supervision. Many times I would be with the clients by myself and I know that is not appropriate. When I had questions, I was able to ask them but I would have liked to have someone there supervising me, especially while I am using the machines or when I am assisting clients with stretches.
6. What insights did you gain into your future career objectives and how did your experience impact your desire/progression towards your career goals?
I know that I definitely do not want to work in a small clinic. Volunteering at my placement made me get a feel for what a physiotherapist’s daily routine would look like and I think that I want to change career options. Based on this experience, I would prefer to work in a fast-paced environment (maybe a hospital setting) or in a larger clinic. Preferably, with chiropractors and other physicians to accompany me. I know that I shouldn’t judge based on this one experience so I will keep an open mind for next time and know what not to look for when applying for the next placement place.

Training Session 7
Last week, my client told me that the workouts were getting easier for her and they did not look as intense as they used to be. I decided to incorporate a change in the workout by adding mountain climbers and using the ropes as part of the circuit. This definitely added a challenge and intensified the workout. On the plus side, my client is having her bridal shower soon! Exciting news!

Training Session 6
Today, my client and I went through another HIIT session. She feels more comfortable doing the exercises now as she’s been doing them for some weeks now. She also told me that she lost a few inches from her hips and bust. Great news!

Training Session 4
My client and I went through another HIIT session today. She felt a little nauseous today as she ate just a little while before we started our session, which was probably not a good idea. We started off by foam rolling and doing some dynamic warm ups to get her HR going. Our session included wall sits, squat jumps, ball slams, and planks. We repeated this for 4 sets and my client did a much better job of continuing through the session this week!

HIIT Session
Today, I put my client through a HIIT workout. The session involved wall sits with ball raises, squat jumps, slam balls, and plank. This was a circuit with 4 sets and 90 second rest intervals in between the sets. My client did a great job throughout the entire workout! I am proud of her for getting through it. All in all, it was definitely better than the resistance training by itself, as she will burn more calories doing HIIT. Hoping to continue with more sessions like today’s!

Observation Eval Session
Today, I had my observation session with Jacob. I was a bit nervous as to how it will go. My client went through another full body workout, once again. She really pushed through as she now has a feel of how the exercises should be performed and is more comfortable doing them. At the end of my evaluation, Jacob gave me some great pointers, which will definitely help my client towards her weight loss goal. My client will be doing a HITT workout the next time I see. Can’t wait to see how this goes.

Midterm Work Report
1.     What objectives have you set out for your time at placement? List your goals, which goals you have met so far, and for those you have not, what do plan on doing moving forward to ensure all of your objectives are met?
My objectives were to get familiar with the equipment, successfully create exercise programs for rehabilitation, to involve in creating/assisting individualized client exercise programs, assist clients with stretching and breathing techniques, learn how to do administrative tasks, as well as get familiar/interact better with clients. I have been able to help clients with stretching and breathing techniques, as well as getting to interact with clients better. I still have trouble creating individualized exercise programs for clients and plan on researching more about this topic to do better.
 2.     What led you to carry out your field placement with your current employer? Are you satisfied with your choice, why or why not?
The clinic caught my attention as they focused a lot on assuring that they help their clients get the best out of their time. I am satisfied with my choice as that is what I am looking for when I volunteer/work somewhere. It is rewarding when you properly help your client and are with them while they progress.
 3.     Has your placement lived up to the expectations you had? If so explain, if not, reflect on what you can do to ensure you make the most out of your remaining time there.
Yes, my placement has lived up to my expectation except for the fact that it’s the same routine every day because we have patients coming in with similar injuries.
 4.     Are you receiving adequate training and supervision? What could make the rest of your experience better?
I feel that I am receiving adequate training and supervision. The experience can be better if they would let me create exercise programs for myself, which will allow me to think and grow in that aspect.

First fitness session
Today, I was very proud of my client, as it was her first time doing resistance training and she did a very good job pushing herself. We started with the warm-up by using a foam roller to prepare her for her workout. We did a full body program that included BW squats, glut bridges, OH press, assisted pull ups, barbell rows, and leg raises. She had some trouble getting into squat position as she was quite nervous to go fully down, but with the support of a bench, her squats improved greatly. Overall, the session went very well and I’m looking forward to seeing Elizabeth’s progress.

Fitness Assessment
My client and I ran through the fitness assessment today. The assessment was designed to test my client’s abilities for when I incorporate both, aerobic and resistance training in her program. This would be the best option as my client’s goal is to lose weight. The assessment included a cardiovascular portion, FMS testing, as well as some CSEP tests. I learned that she is very flexible and has great balance! Some areas to improve on would be her shoulder and hip mobility, because it would enhance her performance while doing resistance training. I’m excited to teach my client new exercises and I am happy that I get to share that experience with her. Can’t wait to start training with her!

Initial Consultation
Today, I had my first meeting with my client and got to know a lot about her. She is highly motivated to start this journey as she has her wedding coming up in the summer and wants to look fit. We talked about her goal, which is to lose weight, and how diet and exercise can help her achieve this. I’m very excited to help her get the wedding body she dreams of!
