Please does anybody have the picture of the orange kitten sitting in front of old yellowed wood paneling and it’s smiling like this. The post where I saw it went something like “little kids before they learn how to smile in photos”
Being a young adult is so strange. You enter a coffee shop. The 20 year old girl waiting behind you cried all night because she just came to a new city for university and she feels so alone. That 27 year old guy over there works a job he is overqualified for, he lives with his parents and wants to move out but doesn't know what to do about it. That one 24 year old dude already has a car, a house, and a job waiting for him once he graduates thanks to his dad's connections. The 26 year old barista couldn't complete his higher education because he has to work and take care of his family. The 28 year old girl sitting next to you has no friends to go out with so she is texting her mother. That couple (both 25 years old) are married and the girl is pregnant. The 29 year old writing something on her laptop has realized that she chose the wrong major so she is trying to start all over. We are not alone in this, but we are actually so alone. Do you feel me
this is a way better model... you'll still get transphobic & intersexist drs of course but i prefer this to male / female or even having separate questions for gender & sex.
[we can't see the full form, but i'd suggest having a "something else" option and dominant hormone question too.]
monogamous people who get defensive or outright combative when polyamory is brought up could probably stand to be told that they could actually change their perspectives somewhat if they put in actual effort. i do not have any more patience for people who are too comfortable in the thought that the ideas they've been fed about exclusivity and commitment all their life are somehow uniquely theirs, nor do i have patience for the handful of trite remarks they make about polyamory in attempts to feel clever about taking one of the most lukewarm stances in existence on something
Well you see minors under 25 years old should not be allowed to get gender reassignment surgery because what if they go to the clinic but instead of giving them a normal penis the nurses mess up and give them the evil penis. That's irreversible
after the news about duolingo shifting to AI generated translations and only using human staff to check that the translations were bare minimum “acceptable” I switched my german lessons to busuu and I’ve only been doing it a month but it already feels like a more helpful interface. there’s typically way more german text onscreen than there is english (e.g. the headers and lesson instructions being in german), they use more complex compound words that start becoming recognizable in context, they give WAY more detailed explanations of grammar rules, and occasionally there’s a written short answer you submit to get feedback from other real users who are fluent. I don’t think they offer as wide a range of languages but if anyone is looking to jump ship from duolingo I’d recommend checking them out
the Fatal Embrace enamel pins are now up at greerstothers.shop
The Lovers of Valdaro - a couple who has been locked in their final embrace for over 5,000 years
Rat king - a group of rats whose tails have become tangled and knotted, binding them together
Triassic cuddle - a porto-mammal and amphibian, found huddled in a burrow. the Thrinaxodon was hibernating, while the Broomistega was injured, and fleeing rising flood waters
Since the r-slur is making a comeback (you know, the word that starts with R, has six letters, and ends in D), I'm gonna make a little PSA:
Yes, it's an ableist slur.
Terms like "asshat," "head-up-ass," "up their own ass," and "high on their own farts" exist. There's also words like crap, dogshit, half-assed, assclown, and chucklefuck. And on the less vulgar side, there are terms like ridiculous, nonsense, train wreck, pointless, insipid, self-absorbed, pretentious, annoying, boring, contemptible, vile, and disgusting.
Substituting words like restarted, poptarted, brain damaged, smoothbrain, etc. is still ableist, because either 1. you obviously still mean the r-word, or 2. you're still using disability as an insult.
