Weatger blanket is up to the 9th February date... need to stop though. This winter has been so mild, i thought for sure I'd be using more of the cold colours and ran out of the 0 to -12C blue. I ordered more from the shop i initially bought the skeins and they are rapidly running out of the colours, so i bought 2 more of the blue, moss green (0 to 12C) and what the summer might need should it be mild too (13 to 17) as they had only 2 left in that colour.
Maybe shouldn't have gone the double crochet route, but now i know 1 skein makes 20 rows, which means 1 skein of each (10) colour was way off.

Progress!
Still behind; that last line is 17th January and today's the 25th, but this isn't a race (and also each row takes me 45 min 😵‍💫). First time I'm actually excited for the temperature going below -17, coz it means a break in the blue😅
How are your tracking projects going?

dear crocheters: why do you call it a single crochet when doing it requires me to yarn over and pull through loops twice
that is not single

Day 4, getting just cold enough for a colour change. I'm happy with the chevron pattern so far: seems to hold alright. Although I'm not sure about the sides. They look like they are going towards the middle, but I'm pretty sure I'm not loosing any stich, so it might just be the chevron curve that gives this illusion since there's a reduction at both ends? Unknown. Shall see later, i guess🤷

That is EXACTLY the type of project I'm talking about! YES!
Best of luck with your 100 books (holy shit!) and please continue to share your progress!
Let's Track Shit With Yarn Together!
Why
I learned to crochet in November 2023 watching youtube tutorials, making a pair of uneven and godawful socks, and from there, i went forward full speed ahead and decided to make a weather blanket for 2024. The thing with weather blankets is that it's a year-long project, and to stay motivated, it is suggested you gather your yarn loving friends and support each other.
Well I don't know anyone who knits/crochet but dammit i live on tumblr and for sure at least one of yall does. Statistically. And, statistically, there's probably a few of yous in the same boat as I. So let's do this thing together in 2024!
Okay, but like. What is it?
A tracking project can be many things. I'm making a weather blanket using crochet: each row is 1 day of the year, and the color of the yarn is the temperature it was that day.
It does have to be temperature; you can track the amount of words you, or your friend gas written that day, or price of gas if you like that, it can be "yes/no" things, such as "did i succeed in [not drinking alcohol/going to the gym/taking my pills/writing/painting/going outside] today". You don't even need to make a blanket; it can be a scarf. It can be patchwork or embroidery. Whatever boats your float. The important thing is that you're tracking.
I gotta do this every day?!
Yes and no. Tracking what you want to track will need to be at least written down somewhere everyday, but a lot of people choose 1 day a week to do a few rows, or 1 day per month. You can do it everyday and catch up the next day if you missed one; up to you. Go your speed. The important thing here is to have fun, and support each other.
Okay but the year has already started and i planned nothing!!!
You can definitely do a March-to-March blanket or check up what happened during the days you missed and catch up once you're ready to start; no problem. Welcome to the project!
Sounds great, but idk how to knit/crochet/other
Well, like i said, i learned crocheting from youtube 3 months before i started on this. 100% if you start learning on a reacking blanket; by the end of the year you'll not only have a blanket/scarf, but you'll be able to see your progress in skill, on top of whatever it is you're tracking. Join us, it's free (minus the equipment), and if you don't like it, well, you tried it. No judgement.
I'll be following the "tracking blanket 2024" hashtag; if you want to join i suggest we all use that to easily find each other and I'll be reblogging the ones i see (and hopefully not miss anyone.)
Can't wait to see your projects!!!

So for my blanket, i decided to do 150 stiches in Dorest Recycled Aran by King Cole. This is the first time I'm making one of these and have NO CLUE how much warn I'll need, but hopefully, 1 skein of 300 meters (328yards) in each colour will work for this🤞
I looked up 4 videos on how to make a chevron pattern and decided to adapt those to mine, no idea if i did it 6 the first row seems to be fine, count wise 👌 and I'm using half double crochet, US (half treble crochet, UK), coz i like it the best.
Colour thresholds for the blanket below the cut.

I got 10 colours and live in a part of Canada where weather can go from over 30°C to below 30°C, so i decided to cut things by temperature ranges that feel different, if that makes sense? Like minus 12 seems warm, but minus 14 is definitely in the cold territory? So
-28°C (-18.4F) and below: Galloway (white)
Between -23 & -27(-9.4 to -16.6F) : Wyre (pink)
Between -18 & -22 (-0.4 to -7.6F): Epping (beige)
Between -13 & -17 (8.6 to 1.4F): Kielder (dark blue)
Between 0 & -12 (32 to 10.4) : Balvain (powder blue)
Between 1 & 13 (33.8 to 55.4F): Grizedale (moss green)
Between 14 & 17 (57.2 to 62.6F) : Delamere (mauve)
Between 18 & 24 (64.4 to 75.2F) : Avondale (yellow)
Between 25 & 30 (77 to 86F) : Red Bare (red)
31 et + (87.8F & above): Gisburn (grey/charcoal)
