I find it amazing the way I speak to my female friends. Whether on the phone, in person, I’ve noticed I will speak to these friends the same way I speak to my mother. I often use the same tone of voice, expressions, and greetings with them. I offer the same kind of support to my mother and to my friends. The women in my life have shaped my personality and values so much and continue to do so. 

In light of comments regarding body image/appearance, I find myself often repeating mantras of body positivity towards these women. Not only do I often find a similar range of comments they will make about their own appearance, but they also will often compliment or comment on my body/appearance. 

I don’t necessarily dislike compliments but when it seems to be the first thing people say, or the only type of comment they make towards my presence, it seems to feel very unnerving. I can’t blame them though, they are a product o their own mothers, and generations to come. 

Lets break the cycle.
