Fantasies have to be unrealistic because the moment, the second that you get what you seek, you donât, you canât want it anymore. In order to continue to exist, desire must have its objects perpetually absent. Itâs not the âitâ that you want, itâs the fantasy of âit.â So, desire supports crazy fantasies. This is what Pascal means when he says that we are only truly happy when daydreaming about future happiness. Or why we say âthe hunt is sweeter than the killâ or 'be careful what you wish for.â Not because youâll get it, but because youâre doomed not to want it once you do. So the lesson of Lacan is, living by your wants will never make you happy. What it means to be fully human is to strive to live by ideas and ideals and not to measure your life by what youâve attained in terms of your desires but those small moments of integrity, compassion, rationality, even self-sacrifice. Because in the end, the only way that we can measure the significance of our own lives is by valuing the lives of others.

Iâm an innocent man. I spent 15 years in prison for something I didnât do. I watched my father die in a British prison for something he didnât do. And this government still says heâs guilty. I want to tell them that until my father is proved innocent, until all the people involved in this case are proved innocent, until the guilty ones are brought to justice, I will fight on. In the name of my father and of the truth!

Not enough people are talking about the fact that Gerry Conlon died
He was an Northern Irish man sentenced to life in prison after being wrongly accused of the IRA bombing of the Guildford Pub in 1974. He was one of Four wrongly convicted of the bombing, as well as Seven others (including his father) who was convicted of conspiracy to murder.
He served 15 years before an appeal ruled that he as well as the other ten people were innocent, and an official statement by Tony Blair was released in 2005.
This was the biggest Miscarriage of Justice in British history, and this guy seriously deserves to be talked about.
