if you like Cody but hate Sierra I think there's something fundamentally wrong with you.

Sierra if the writers cared enough about her and did not make her completely creepy,if you remove that, at least for me, there's still a character there, she's still obsessive over td, she's clearly very neurotic and also has interest outside of td, my favourite being DnD, which is wonderful I think that's a great trait for her, she's a fan blogger, and bounces off of charcaters well.

If you removed Cody being weird to gwen I think you'd be left with a fucking cardboard cut out of a character he's genuinely one of the most nothing burger Characters and I just don't get why people like him so much???

I heart shitting on total trauma and I’ve seen not a lot of people mention how hard they butcher the girls (to be fair they butcher everyone)

(Btw the creator goes by pri/prin pronouns and we should respect that regardless of who prin is)

Like, making Sierra out to be a literal cheater and then forgiving it because “she’s aromantic” is REALLY GROSS as an aromantic greysexual person.

This one’s been talked to death but prin making Courtney into someone who dates barely legal 19 year olds while seeing that relationship as cute for the most part is weird and very telling of how they treat minors in real life

I don’t even want to go into their characterization of zoey.

Lindsay having dissociative amnesia, while interesting, is written extremely poorly and her abandoning her identity and then taking it back at the drop of a hat is super stupid. (This is coming from someone from a system and thus, experiences dissociative amnesia and identity issues)

We’re also not getting into the weird overly hot depiction of mikes abuser

While barely shown as of writing this take given prins track record Amy’s NPD is most likely going to be given very little of the care and respect it deserves

I really don’t fucking like this comic! Subzero level take but there are still some things I haven’t seen discussed which probably should be addressed considering the harm they can do

Not a take but I wanna say this is one of the best take blogs I’ve ever seen, excluding very few instances anons are quite mature and very supportive of each other with next to no infighting from what I’ve seen and it’s nice to see in the echo chamber of negativity that is the total drama fandom normally

It’s gotten me to change my opinion (albeit slightly) of Courtney and have more meaningful conversations in the fandom without some rat in my ear telling me “it’s just a kids show it’s not that deep”

Are we ever going to talk about how Sierra was made to shit on Cody fangirls or are we going to continue to ignore that when it comes to character analysis?

I feel like the meta of a character and the writers intent with them is pretty important in analyzing them especially with her because it’s addressing the fans directly in a very rude, immature and misogynistic way. Essentially saying that by liking a fictional character a little too much for the creators’ liking you are on the same level as a stalker and sexual harasser.

(This is the equivalent of the mastermind of V3 being a mega fan of the show who dies because without danganronpa she is nothing. And how the real villains were the fans keeping the show going and letting it devolve to the point that it did and as a drv3 fan I know how decisive that ending is in the fandom, sorry, random tangent)

Izzy is my favourite character, and will probably always be. But it’s so often that i try and find content of her and it is always dependent on Owen or team e-scope. And don’t get me wrong, i love team e-scope (idgaf about owen but that isn’t the focus anyway) but it’s so annoying that people don’t focus on Izzy herself.

She has so much personality outside of having dated Owen and being crazy (heavy on the ‘izzy isn’t crazy’ theory). Like for example; people never talk about her brother that she mentioned, he was a mechanic but there was a bad accident so now he’s terrified of all vehicles. She also listens to horror movie soundtracks when she sleeps cause it’s the only thing that calms her down (source: total drama online). She does her hair with half eaten corncobs (also TDO)

So it’s so annoying when people don’t acknowledge how interesting she actually is aside form her character dependence on owen, and act like she does nothing but be in the background and talk nonsense (she does but for gods sake she has more to her)

Im starting this with the fact I used to be a BIG Courtney hater, I did not like her at all -- and only liked her in fanon for a considerable few years.

And then I rewatched the show and was enlightened a little. Not saying that I realized Coutney was written competently, but that she was written oh so terribly past Island, it made me have clarity to my dislike.

And then I thought about her as a character more, and it kinda made me realized the fact my hatred for Courtney was a combination of internal misogyny and misogyny from the writers who clearly had it out for her.

So I ended up thinking about her more as a character. And while I still think in show, shes not the greatest regarding her actions towards other people, I can confidently say I like her. Maybe love her.

And I think in general, I feel like the shows misogyny - while subtle on a first watch/rewatch, is one of its strongest issues regarding its writing and especially character writing.

Sorry for rambling, just needed it out of my system

I might get flamed a bit for this but… I do genuinely believe this fandom has a bit of a misogyny problem when it comes to sierra.

Now I understand that there’s absolutely no justification for almost all of her actions and what she did to Cody is beyond disgusting. However, it irks me so much that Cody isn’t held to the same standard. “Oh but what Cody did to Gwen can’t even begin to compare to what sierra did to him!” True, but you gotta remember that regardless of Cody’s victim status he still did some really creepy shit. The two things I want to highlight in particular are Cody’s actions in the Amazon and Jamaica episodes- first off, cody flashed his privates at Gwen; she genuinely believed he had underwear on and let her use his x ray glasses knowing she was gonna see his dick without warning if she did and didn’t even try to stop her. He also took a photo of himself getting in her personal space while she was asleep which led to her hand getting seriously burned. Again, sierras numerous violations of Cody have no excuse but it does feel like there’s a big misogyny factor when there are people who will straight up block you for saying anything remotely positive about sierra or coderra because she’s a “predator” yet have Cody as one of their favorites claiming that he’s some precious person who’s completely innocent.

Also with how many people claim that sierra is a bad character because “she’s nothing without Cody.” Sierra has a lot to her character- namely her hyperfixation on the show and how she’s incredibly knowledgeable about all things total drama. I do agree that they should have utilized this trait more but sierra isn’t just some damsel in distress like the fandom makes her out to be, she’s an incredibly intelligent force to be reckoned with and uses her intensive TD knowledge to absolutely kill it in some challenges. There’s plenty of male TD characters who don’t have much going for them aside from their one (1) gimmick or their love interest yet I don’t ever really see this type of complaint made about them.

Julia is not Heather!!! She is not!!! Julia is a brute who will do anything to win — she would not have lost the S1 challenge where Heather got her hair shaved because she would have said “shave my hair, I’ll rock it, anything to win.” Yes she’s vain, but her vanity comes second always to winning. When her hair got fucked up in season 2’s finale, it only made her stronger — crying in the bathroom came second to finishing that goddamn race. She will eat anything, do anything, say anything no matter what it does to her image as long as it furthers her path to victory. Heather is incredibly mean, but not the way Julia is.
