You were tired, so so tired. You loved him so much, more than you loved yourself, which is why it hurt you to even think about breaking up. It’s not like you had much choice though, it was either you two break up or he breaks you.

Like you said earlier, you love him lots, but the problem is, he doesn’t love you. It doesn’t even equate to a fraction of how much you love him. You couldn’t help but wonder, where did it all go wrong? What did you do? Why doesn’t he love you anymore? Can’t even bear to be in the same room as you. Then it hits you,,

Did he ever, well and truly love you?

You thought back to your first date with him, it was almost like he wasn’t even there with you. Physically? Of course, but mentally? He seemed to be somewhere else, almost like he wasn’t even paying attention to you. While, yes, he doesn’t need to always be looking at you, or, hell, even always looking at you while you’re talking to him, he could’ve at least looked you in the eye when picking you up.

But you loved him, and he loved you, right? You really didn’t wanna break up, so you thought back to another time with him, praying that your first date was just a one time occurrence and that maybe you were just being dramatic.

So, you thought back to a time when it was just you and him inside of your shared apartment. You had asked if the two of you could do something together, anything. You understood he was a busy man, but you two hadn’t gone on a date in months, haven’t even hung-out together because he was working all the time. Even just cuddling on the couch together would be enough for you, which is what you asked him to do after he shot down your invitation to go out and eat maybe for the fourth time, thinking that maybe he just didnt wanna leave the house.

It appeared he just didnt wanna leave the house with you.

He barked out a harsh “No” at you, then proceeded to yell at you to leave him be, with him being busy and all.

Though maybe it was your fault, you had been bugging him for a while, and it had only been a few months since your last date-

No.

That self-blaming line of thinking is exactly what got you into that situation in the first place and its not going to get you out. You had to break up with him, you didn’t want to, but it was gonna hurt you more than it hurt him.

In more ways than one, is what you didn’t know.

It was a few days later. Although you had planned to do it sooner, you were very much stalling which gave you all the more reason to break up with him. At least from what you observed over the past few days.

The neglect and attitude was more evident than ever and it was time to put a stop to it. You didn’t know how to though, with Dottore sitting right next to you, it made you all the more nervous. With the thought of a breakup running through your mind, eventually you voiced your thoughts..

“…Break up”

Is what you had mumbled, as Dottore felt his blood run cold, so did you. Was it an accident? Yes. But how would you explain that? How could you explain why breaking up was even on your mind in the first place.

“What?”

Is what the shocked scientist sounded out in return, it was too late to go back now, and who knows, maybe it was for the better he found out this way. It was now or never.

“I-“

You felt your throat clog up, it really was now or never, why were you struggling now?

“You what?!-“

“Dottore, I think we should break up!”

Your breaths were heavy as you felt red eyes staring hard, as if they were trying to burn holes through you, and yet you couldn’t find the strength to look back at him. You weren’t a fool, you knew he was a harbinger, you knew what he was capable of. While you didn’t think..well, you hoped he wouldn’t ever showcase his power on you, you were still scared. So, what do you do when you may be in a dangerous situation?

You run.

You quickly stood up, momentarily forgetting about all of your belongings, and just as you turned towards the door, ready to beeline it for the outdoors, you felt a sudden, strong grip on your wrist.

You turned around looking questioningly at Dottore, tears starting to well up in your eyes. You were terrified. Why? Well he simply looked terrifying, he looked so angry and you were scared he was about to direct it towards you. He didn’t say a word, until he finally let out a-

“No.”

No? Well now you really had to go, in your haste to process what he said you let out a noise of confusion and safe to say it was the straw that broke the camels back.

“No, no no. You heard me. No! Why do you even want to leave? After all I’ve given you? After I’ve granted you the privilege of even being in my presence? Everything I’ve gave to you..wait, is that what this is about? Is there something I haven’t given you? Am I not enough? Am..am I not enough? Am I..not enough for you?”

Your eyes widened, as you felt his grip on your wrist get looser by the second. You felt heartbroken by his spiel. Of course he was enough, the love he gave though? Wasn’t anywhere near enough. Still, you felt like you had to apologize, to soothe his worries. After all, he did get with you, shouldn’t that be enough for you..?

You dove in for a hug as he gripped your waist tightly, tears spilling over both of your cheeks. You spewed out apology after apology, assuring words coming out one after another. Assuring that he was enough. You were about to break away from him when he said,,

“Please, I don’t need your apologies, I- I just need you to stay with me, I don’t know what I would do without you, just..please..”

For the second time that night, your heart was shattered into pieces, and all you did was grip him tighter. You agreed to stay with him, with the thought that maybe..just maybe he’d change this time around.

From your hug, you felt Dottore smile into your neck, thinking he was just happy you didn’t leave him, you smiled too and thought nothing more of it. While, yes, he was happy, that was only part of the reason.

His plan worked, he got you to stay with him, oh how naive you were to fall for his manipulations. He was sorry for hurting you, he’d really try to change. But even if he couldn’t, so what? What were you gonna do? Though he didn’t think about that, silently thankful you remained in his arms and not out the door. Did you really think he’d let you leave either way?

Regardless, he might not be able to be so lenient, so..nice, if you try to leave him the second time around.
