"The connection between them was such a strong friendship."
The stills photographer for series 1 and 2 was kind enough to do a livestream answering questions about what it was like shooting for Victoria during season 1 and 2.
For any drumfred shippers out there that are still around, he answered a question about Jordan and Leo. His respond will definitely warm your heart :,)
The Drumfred storyline could have been SO GOOD if they’d pursued Drummond breaking off his engagement and all the backlash coming from that yet they KILL HIM after ONE EPISODE OF CANON DRUMFRED for no reason WHATSOEVER other than Wilhelmina gets a man at Christmas
Victoria S2 aired till this Summer in Japan with 2 years delay of the UK. Drumfred broke my heart completely and I’m really into it now. So I’ve done this for sort of my own relief.
Jordan: Leo is a very, a very nice man and you know, he’s an attractive bloke which is really nice, and he’s a good actor. We both never really kissed men before, and we were a bit nervous when it finally came down to it on screen and I dunno, you know it was literally just like any other kiss, it was great. I mean obviously I taught him a few moves as you might expect. It was a little bit like kissing the backside of a cat to start with, so he did ease into it and so did I. And I think it created a really beautiful moment that actually is the only moment — because I find it so excruciating to watch myself back as every good actor does. And it was the only moment that I could actually bear to watch and really move me emotionally because I was really engaged with that particular scene. It was really beautiful to see you know but you know it’s great we got you “Call me by your name”, “God’s own country”, we’ve got this gay kiss in “Victoria” I think it’s really amazing that we’ve got so many brilliant LGBT portrayals out there at the moment.
I’m so pleased everyone loved it so much. It was really great, and I got some amazing messages and now I was thrilled, I was really happy for Twitter at that time a bit scared of it normally, I’m not on it you see because I find it a bit daunting but that was really amazing. Highlight of the of the whole season two for me and Leo, I think. [MASTERPIECE Studio Podcast]

Just thinking about how drumfred was the most beautifully written slow-burn relationship, a storyline that was so delicately handled in terms of pacing, that had the most satisfying emotional payoff for the fans when they kissed. And then how that was so jarringly yanked out from under us, how disgustingly Drummond’s death was handled, and how subsequently Alfred’s character was morphed beyond all recognition, with a shoddy and rushed proposal and one (1) mourning scene. How poor Wilhelmina was then completely pushed out of the story, and Alfred became a shell of the character that he was, and how he never got to truly mourn the love of his life. Yeah just thinking about that
