Now the weird part: I'm a lucid dreamer, and over the last few weeks I've been playing with stuff from the books in my dreams. Last night, I managed to shapeshift into Hannah's ten-limbed final form. I didn't quite get all the way - no grey skin, no chitin, no extra eyes, no spacial sense - but all ten limbs were there and working, full sensation and movement (the most limbs I'd had before was six). And... it felt good.

In the past I've had mild phantom limb sensations after waking up from shapeshifting dreams - though without the fear, since it was voluntary shapeshifting and I knew I was dreaming.

Before I came out as trans, I used to dream about coming out as nonhuman - being a shapeshifter was always my trans allegory.

So a lot of the things in the books were really relatable.

Which makes me wonder, since your descriptions are so similar to how these things actually feel - have you ever experienced any of this, in dreams or some other way?

Also, Refresh is really useful, even if my version isn't very reliable 🙂

Nope, I'm unfortunately not a lucid dreamer, just a perpetual dreamer. I've spent basically my whole life thinking up random stories to amuse myself with, and nearly all of them involve turning into something more than human. It's just an active imagination, nothing more!
