My feelings toward Edelgard can be described thusly: If you showed me a screenshot of Edelgard calling Dedue a dog the same way Felix does I would believe it was canon without second thought 😊
Exactly! And that's the thing! Edelgard dehumanizes Rhea and the other nabateans the same way that the Faerghus knights dehumanize people of Duscur.
We also had two huge FE games tackle discrimination against non-human races as a major plot point, yet people are just unable to accept that Edelgard attacks them on a racial/species based motive for some reason.
Do people think it's more okay in Edelgard's case because "she's right, since they literally aren't human and they're controlling everything and everyone"? Give me a break. Rhea might have changed history and covered things up, but so does Edelgard when she lies about Arianrhod and starts her secret war. Rhea might take advantage of cruel tactics when backed into a corner, but Edelgard employs demonic beasts, uses subterfuge and propaganda and incites coups at her best, and starts the game trying to assassinate her classmates. Rhea executes people after they tried to kill her and terrorize her home multiple times, Edelgard kills people trying to run away or are rightfully defending their home.
There's no difference to the basics of their actions, aside from Edelgard doing much worse much more easily/often. So either Edelgard is a hypocrite, or her main motive for hating the nabateans is because they're not human. Probably both tbh.
Do I think she would call Dedue a dog personally? No, but honestly, she doesn't care about Duscur at all. Her only acknowledgement of it is the Tragedy, not the genocide that followed, and since to my knowledge there's no mention of Duscur being given its land back, I wager it all just became imperial territory in the end.

Western Church: Conspires to assassinate the archbishop of the central church, manipulates a grieving man into throwing his and his subjects’ lives away in a reckless bid for revenge, hates the central church for not being racist or xenophobic, and generally act like murderous dickheads
Three Houses fandom: *no comment*
Rhea: Never lifts a finger against them until they directly try to kill her, her staff, and her students; and has the perpetrators executed after informing them of the heinous shit that they’re guilty of.
Three Houses fandom: OMG why is Rhea such a tyrant :(
