I am currently a freshman in college taking my first semester of German. I want to be a teacher, but I'm not sure exactly which subject. Do you think by the time I graduated college I would know enough German to teach it? Also do you think teaching a language is as rewarding as teaching say Language arts or Art since you don't make as many connections with the students?

i would argue you make MORE connections since you are more likely to teach multiple levels and have repeated students than in the other subject areas. And with a year abroad and fully committing yourself while you are there to speaking only German you can definitely get yourself to a level where you would be prepared to teach it!

I have to ask since I always wondered about this. Are your students German themselves or is it a school outside of Germany that teaches German? Or is it a school in Germany that teaches non German speaking folk German? I could imagine it maybe a school in the US since in some states there are German lessons but the Wolfsburg picture confuses me
