So, a lot of things happened tonight, and I’m overwhelmed, but also Jester’s “I’m always fine” low-key hurt my soul

i want you all to know:
for the most recent episode of cr, i was drifting in and out of sleep towards the end. so imagine the sheer panic i was sent into when i dozed off only to awaken to the sound of EVERY CAST MEMBER screaming, EVERYONE in the chat screaming, and matt describing something in a VERY PASSIONATE, almost SCARY way.
i have never been so absolutely terrified.

Reani is a boring Mary-Sue according to certain factions of the CR fandom, which is entirely predictable but also confusing, because isn’t her apparent flawlessness… the entire point?
Reani bursts into the Mighty Nein’s life with her bubbliness and joy, and the Nein fall in love because how could they not? She loves pastries and plants and cats! She’s an actual superhero! She thinks Jester’s mom is super cool! She literally glows with goodness!
…And then she declares she must kill all evil, no grey areas, nope, sorry! and this party, who are defined by shades of grey, freeze up as they realise that perhaps this angel isn’t their new best friend after all.
Reani is vociferously, dogmatically lawful good to the point it’s a little alarming. She has no concept of nuance; the evils of stealing from a shop and the incursion of aberrations into the material plane register at the same level for her, and both must be met with death. The folks in the town love Reani but they don’t trust her, despite being an accomplished wanderer - Reani is 33 but they approach her like a child almost, indulging her secret identity but insisting she can’t wander into the wilderness alone. (Sidenote: Caleb is also ~33, and the contrast is incredible.) She follows her angel blindly, never questioning his intentions or his requests, and when the Mighty Nein raise potential moral dilemmas she becomes flustered and confused. And then, instead of figuring it out for herself, she decides she needs to sleep so Samliel can tell her the answer.
Reani is perfect on the surface. She’s a literal angel filled with goodness, specifically designed to appeal to every member of the Mighty Nein. But that’s a thin veneer which hides a startling lack of self-reflection and absolutely no moral depth. Reani’s unbending ‘goodness’ is a fascinating flaw and I love it; her morality might teach the M9 a thing or two about goodness, but her approach to life is ultimately unsustainable and has only survived thus far because her fellow townsfolk seem to indulge her and don’t push back. Sticking her in the middle of a party like the Mighty Nein is sure to kick up the dust on both sides, as both parties are forced to interact with the inverse of their own approach to morality. It could well turn into a true clusterfuck of moral philosophy and I, for one, cannot wait.

Alright you asked for it
Everything I Know About Vox Machina From Being A Fan Still Catching Up With Campaingn 2
(Idk how funny this'll actually be cause I spend a whole lot of time on the wiki)
Keyleth:
Seems to think they're immortal or something?
Jumped off a cliff once
Has deer antlers. Unsure if they are actually attached to her head. It would be really cool if they were.
Going to live an unknown number of many years that will cause much angst
Looks like the Nice One but I suspect she's secretly the most badass
Chopped off all her hair once like a YA protagonist from the mid 2000s
Grog Strong jaw
One of the few characters here with an actual last name
Got possessed by his sword once?
Shouldn't have a beard cause goliaths dont have hair and yet
Best friends with pike
I Guess I'll Do Pike Now:
Worships some God (like sarenyay or something) so she has to leave alot
Used to have black hair and then she died
She sounds like she's one of the two brain cells in the group
Molly almost had her last name but Matt said no
Vex'ahlia
Has a bear that sometimes does organized crime while she's away
Good with money or something like she's the accountant right
One time I think she brougbt back percy with the power of LoveTM or something I know that was involved
Has the coolest accent
Apparently she's like a witch? Or something?
Vax'ildan
Got disintegrated once and now he's a raven
Could have had the nickname Dan, but, alas
Acts edgy but not?
Dagger dagger dagger
Has so much aesthetic that he became a paladin for the literal raven queen
Scanlan Short halt
The original BardTM
Sang "I Will Always Love You" slot
Left the party once cause his kid saw like his dead body? Idk..
Hates the bear, I dont know why,, how could you hate bears
Is small enough to fly through mage hand
Percy de kowalski de Frankenstein de rolo (I love those chocolates):
Almost got replaced by molly but didn't
Also used to have dark hair but now its white
The only person here who understands the struggle of glasses
Family got killed by the briarwoods who are either demons worshippers or vampires or both
Pretty stupid for a smart person
One time he shot Grog to keep his rage going
Apparently like half the party had a crush on him at some point

Why I’m a Fjorester shipper: I love the relationship between Fjord-- who is so undoubtedly lost in himself, who’s riddled with insecurities and a lack of self-confidence that he hides behind filed tusks, an impersonation of his mentor, even behind the powers he gains from Uk’otoa (Uk’otoa) that make him feel worth something-- and Jester-- this ball of chaotic sunshine, this wonderful, strong-willed, energetic woman that is endlessly and fiercely loyal to her friends, who sees the good in people and is patient and kind and understanding.
She sees the good in Fjord, in the Fjord that is left once the accent vanishes, once the powers are gone, once the tusks grow back; that is the Fjord she has believed in since the beginning. And he’s never had something like that. And Fjord admires Jester, looks up to her. Whether she is aware of it or not, he is constantly impressed by her endurance, physical and emotional, by her loyalty, by her outlook on life. And in the moments where her happiness turns into a facade and eventually fades? He is there. He sits with her and talks with her, listens to her, as inexperienced and awkward as he might be at it sometimes. He always tries to make her feel better. And she appreciates that.
They are friends, first and foremost, and that makes my heart fucking SWELL. They look out for each other, in a way that’s not intrinsically linked to or pushed by romantic feelings. They just genuinely care for and respect each other, and see the good in each other, and want to help each other. Even when one becomes uncertain of the other, even when they go through rough patches. They are there for each other. And I think that’s beautiful.

I absolutely love “the Chaos Crew” as a collective name for Caleb, Nott, Beau, and Jester, especially since I just remembered that they were the four perpetrators of the Dodecahedron Heist.

Blind judging the blind
It feels like the day has lasted an eternity when they finally settle down in a tavern in the mountain city. Fjord is exhausted just from the amount of information they have acquired in the past twenty-four hours. He’s thankful that they don’t have to fight a dragon tonight.
In all honesty, he’d rather not fight one at all, but he can’t tell if this reluctance is common sense or just a newfound fear now that his magic is gone. It wouldn’t be the first time they jumped into an apparently unwinnable fray. Fjord hates the idea of no longer being on board with his friends’ shenanigans just because he is powerless, but he is —well— powerless, and that’s not something he can easily forget.
He can distract himself, though, with a drink and conversation. Jester, Reani, and Nott are busy upstairs planning a sleepover. Beau, however, seems to prefer a quiet drink than the girly time, for now. He’s sure that she’ll end up joining the others later, when it’s late enough to seem “cool” about it. Caleb is busy across the table, checking on his newly acquired trinkets and Clay is, well, distracted with his own thoughts.
“So,” Fjord says, leaning over to Beau, “what do you make of our new friend?”
“I mean, she’s nice,” the monk shrugs. “Too nice, if you ask me.”
