Not at all but they did make the blue hedgehog feel remarkably comforted and, regarding the hybrid’s statement as nothing but the truth, took that as an invitation to lean against his friend even more. His eyes glanced towards the clock above the television, which was glowing in the darkness of the room with images of some late night program.
It was late, but they both already knew that; they just didn’t care. Volt was currently sandwiched between his daughter, peacefully sleeping where she was curled up on one side of her father, and Arrow, who was tempted to do the same thing but settled for resting his cheek against Volt’s shoulder, so even if he had wanted to leave the hybrid was stuck where he was.
Fighting back a yawn as he shifted again, Arrow smiled at his friend, grateful. “Good. Frankly, I could use the company.”

{➹} – THE HERO WAS ACTUALLY STUNNED to hear the super say that, enough that it sent a small sting of pain through his chest but he quickly covered it up by shaking his head firmly.
“No,” he looked into those red swirls with a troubled frown. “It’s nothing like that at all and don’t even start thinking like that, Kiddo. I just...”
Now it was Arrow’s turn to stop himself. He knew the next words out of his mouth weren’t the one the super would want to hear but they had to be said. Right? “I just don’t think of you like that...you’ve always been more of a little brother t’ me.”

ARROW HATED SAYING THE WORDS but they were true and even he couldn’t deny that. Releasing a troubled sigh, he sat next to his companion, two steaming cups in hand, and gave one to her, keeping the other, staring down at the murky liquid inside. Silence settled around the pair, heavy and restless, with both of their thoughts lingering on one individual.
Mephiles.
The two of them had enough trouble on their hands without the demon appearing on a whim and terrorizing them and, in Sardonyx’s case, kidnapping them for Chaos knows how long. Arrow didn’t know what endgame Mephiles had in mind but it could only spell trouble for the two of them if recent events were any indication.
“We need t’ do something about him, Sar’. Before he does something even worse.”

{➹} – EVERYONE HAD THEIR DOUBTS, even the wildly optimistic and trusting Hero of Mobius. Recent days had seen him overthinking even the simplest things, things he had never questioned before. But stress worked in the worse of ways at times and Sonic had sought out his close friend to discuss these concerns.
They had talked for a great length of time, flitting through subjects new and old while sitting at the base of the shrine. The more they did, the more a feeling of relief settled within the hedgehog but there remained a lingering doubt. A skepticism about the earnest nature of their conversation that he needed the echidna to debunk.
So he had asked, and Knuckles had answered exactly the way Sonic had expected; and he was glad for that. He almost felt silly for asking but seeing that his friend’s expression remained supportive and not at all judgemental, the hero relaxed amply.
“Yeah, I know. No harm in checking though, right?” he gave his friend a smile, feeling a weight lifted off his shoulders. “Thanks, Knux. Don’t know what I’d do without you.”
