Has this been done yet? Anyways, stay safe out there!
(This is about airborne diseases, especially Covid, not neurodivergency. Masking behavior can be hard as hell, no one should have to do that)

hello!!! I've been trying to accept for myself the idea of bodymind and was wondering if you had any recommended reading on the subject? this is worded strangely I'm sorry I'm sleepy. thanks!!!
I do! <3 here are some for free online:
Begin with Margaret Price's classic paper which popularized the bodymind as core to critical disability studies, The Bodymind Problem and the Possibilities of Pain.
AND the paper it cites heavily, Rosemarie Garland-Thompson's Misfits: A Materialist Feminist Disability Concept.
I also wrote pretty recently about this in my essay, The Beholding and Beheld!
There's two modern classics, In Defense of De-Persons and Sick Woman Theory, both by the incomparable Johanna Hedva.
J. Logan Smilges (one of my mentors!)'s amazing article Traumasex: A Queercrip Erotic.
I feel like I'm constantly recommending Mel Baggs's oeuvre....because I am. Here's a good blog post of hirs to start with regarding the bodymind interface.
Some books to look at include:
Eli Clare, Exile & Pride and Brilliant Imperfection: Grappling With Cure.
Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha: Bodymap and Dirty River.
Audre Lorde, The Cancer Journals.
Stacey Waite, Love Poem to Androgyny and The Lake Has No Saint.
Adam Dickinson, Anatomic.
Hope these help get you started!

I think the reason a lot of leftists struggle with disability justice is that they haven't moved past the concept that discrimination isn't bad because it's objectively "wrong." yes, sexists are objectively wrong when they try to claim women are dumber than men. yes, antisemites are objectively wrong that jewish people are inherently greedy and run the state. yes, racists are wrong when they try to claim that white people are the superior race. and so on.
but then with disabled people, there are a lot of objective truths to the discrimination we face. people with IDs/LDs do fall behind and struggle with certain concepts. physically disabled people are often weaker and less capable of performing demanding tasks than able bodied people. many of us with mental illnesses are more reckless and less responsible. a lot of us are dependent on others and do not contribute much "worth".
and guess what? disabled people still deserve a place in the world. disabled people still deserve the supports they need. because they are people, and that should be enough to support them and believe they deserve a place at the table.
if your only rebuttal against discrimination is its objective inaccuracies, you are meeting bigots where they are at. you are validating the very concept that if and when people are truly incapable of being equal to the majority, that means they are worth less. this causes some leftists to then try to deny the objective realities of disabled people and/or become ableist themselves.
your rallying behind marginalized groups should start and end with the fact that people are completely worthy of life and equity, because they are fellow human beings and that should, frankly, be enough.

I'm not saying I'd do it all the time; I'm just saying if someone sends me unsolicited medical advice, I should be allowed to hunt them for sport. As a little treat.

TIP for any fellow disabled folks who have cats ❣️ if you got chronic fatigue or back pain or POTS where you cant bend down easily or even if you're able bodied and just feeling sick get one of these shits ↓↓↓
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's got one huge sifter so after your cat(s) use it you just grab it, shake it side to side a little, dump the poop into a bag, put the now clean litter in a fresh box (this one gives you two litter boxes for this reason) and pour the clean litter in the box on top of the pan. You can put the second box under it to keep it out of the way for when you switch over again.
This Arm and Hammer one was only 15 bucks on amazon and it's so much easier to clean. It is heavy to lift up the full pan and dump the cleaned litter into the second box so keep that in mind, but it's so much faster and less arduous than shoveling the caked up cat shit for 10 minutes and having your back screaming in pain, numb feet, and a head rush from bending over 😭 i didn't know these existed until now so that's why I'm talking about it anyway if you see this you should pet your cat for me maybe give em a kiss on their stupid little forehead 🤎🐈🐈‍⬛

do you have POTS and feel sick and fatigued in the morning? if you can, try allowing yourself more lay down time. don't get out of bed right away. give your body time to adjust to wakefulness. give your meds time to kick in. when you start moving, take it slow. stretch while laying down, change positions slightly, etc.
i'd also keep something to drink and maybe a snack next to your bed for when you wake up enough. or you can hydrate and eat when you get out of bed. all of this is especially true if you slept too long/little, or took something sedating the night before. and if you have a pulse ox or bp machine, keep it by your bed - sometimes we think we're okay when we're not!
this isn't Medical Advice, just stuff I noticed helps me as a POTSie. if anyone has other morning tips, feel free to add on <3

there was a tiktok I made a while ago basically saying "your abusive ex boyfriend is more likely a misogynist than a narcissist" and while most people agreed some said I was victim blaming(?) and that I couldn't know what their ex is like, and while obviously I don't, every fucking person describing their narcissistic ex is describing a typical misogynist. ask yourself, is this behavior you associate with narcissism directed at women or does he treat his male friends the same way? is his general functioning in life impaired?
many people don't seem to know this, but a mental disorder is NOT based on symptoms alone, it's based on how much the symptoms actually impair you in daily life. most people could look at a list of mental disorder symptoms and identify either themselves or someone else with them. as far as a narcissistic personality, we all know people who appear more self absorbed than others, but this is typically subclinical narcissism (presence of narcissistic traits without significant impairment of functioning) which is not a disorder. there is also a misunderstanding of what npd is. a narcissist is not a supervillain invincible to emotion. npd is a defensive reaction to trauma that lead to deep insecurity and fear of being seen as weak or vulnerable. so narcissists aren't actually "in love with themselves" at all and often are diagnosed when seeking help for other issues such as substance abuse resulting from their struggles.
this focus a lot of abused women in online pop psychology have on narcissism is particularly concerning because it completely glosses over misogyny which is literally a huge factor in violence against women. people really only know misogyny as a surface level thing. they don't know it can lead to family annihilation, for example, and is one reason most family annihilations are committed by the husband. it's always "this man is a sociopath" "this man is a narcissist" when the man's behavior is driven by ideology. I am so fucking tired of everything being tied to mental illness and left at that. you know what this leads to? courts "fixing" abusive men by...giving them anger management therapy. guess what? it doesn't fucking do anything because the problem isn't mental instability leading to anger, it's targeted, purposeful abuse. we are getting nowhere

Antique stores in strip malls are like, "Welcome in! We have the most breakable and expensive items the world has ever known and aisles you couldn't squeeze a greased toddler through and if you even THINK about perusing our figurines you WILL smash $10,000 worth of uranium glass with your big fat succulent buttcheeks," and every time I'm like, "I love to play laser spy maze. You're on."

movies are scams games are scams books are scams comics are scams when it comes to fainting. fainting can hurt like hell and involve a lot of screaming in pain and it never is quite as peaceful as slowly falling asleep into the buff arms of someone who accidentally shares DNA with mewtwo. fucking rip-off
