A wedding in the Oshwal Centre

Two weeks ago we went to a wedding. It took place in Oshwal Centre in Hertfordshire. It's not too far from Potters Bar tube station.

This centre, which sits an extremely tranquil environment, is 70 acres in size. This Oshwal centre is the UK's biggest Jain Centre. As I have never been to a Jain temple, this was a new experience for me.

Jainism, just like Buddhism, is an ancient religion that started in India and its teachings are very similar to Buddhist teachings too. The Jain temple in the premises have traditional carvings which have been hand carved exquisitely. These carvings felt familiar to me. The simply decorated shrine room had a marble statue of Lord Mahavira.

All around the temple there were carefully tended gardens. That day was a rainy and misty day and we felt a little chilly. The weather, coupled with the familiarity of the temple and the background music (sounded like Lata Mangeshkar's voice), created a sense of comfort and elevated the beauty of the surroundings.

Next to the temple is the wedding hall, which can house more than 500 guests. This was a tamil hindu wedding and the bride and groom were dressed in beautiful traditional garments and jewelry. The bridesmaids were in stunning sarees and their hair were decorated traditionally with real jasmine flowers. The groomsmen were in vetti and stood out beautifully.

The wedding ceremony, performed according to hindu customs, was truly memorable amidst the sounds of the mridangam drum and tamil songs.

සුමාන දෙකකට පෙර අපි ගියා මංගල උත්සවයකට . එය තිබුනේ හාර්ඩ්ෆෝඩ් ශයර් හි ඔශ්වාල් මද්යස්ථානයේ .එය පොටස්බාර් ටියුබ් ස්ටේෂන් එකේ ඉඳල වැඩි දුරක් නැහැ .

ඉතා නිසල පරිසරයක පිහිටි මෙම ස්ථානය විශාලත්වයෙන් අක්කර 70 ක් වෙනවා .මේ ඔශ්වාල් සෙන්ටර් එක තමය් , UK වල තියෙන විශාලම ජෛන ආගමික මද්‍යස්ථානය . මා මීට පෙර ජෛන පන්සලකට ගොසින් නොතිබුණු නිසා මෙය මට අමුතුම අත්දැකීමක් උනා .

ජෛන ආගමත් බුද්ධාගම  මෙන්ම   , පුරාණ  ඉන්දියාවෙන් ඇරඹුණු ආගමක්  සහ එහි ඉගැන්වීම් බුදු දහමේ ඉගැන්වීම් වලට බොහෝදුරට සමාන වේ.

මෙහි තිබෙන ජෛන පන්සල පාරම්පරික අත් කැටයම් වලින් කරනලද ඉතා අලංකාර  නිර්මාණයක් .මෙම කැටයම් වල අපිට හුරු පුරුදු බවක් දැනුනා .ඉතා සරල වූ මේ විහාර ගෙය තුල මහාවීර තුමාගේ කිරිගරුඬ පිළිමයක් තිබුනා.

පන්සල වටේම තිබුනේ හරීම  ලස්සනට හදපු හරිත උද්‍යාන . එදා තරමක වැසි දිනක් , වැහි වාලා කුළු  වලින් අහස වැහිලා තිබුන .මීදුමත් එක්ක සිහින් සීතලකුත් දැනුන . අපිට හුරුපුරුදු කැටයම් කලා වන් ගෙන් සැදුනු පන්සලත් , එයින් ඇසෙන උතුරු ඉන්දියානු සංගීතයත් එහි තිබුණු සවුන්දර්ය තවත් වැඩි කලා යය් මට සිතුනා .

පන්සලට මදක් දකුණු පසින් වෙන්න උත්සව ශාලාව තිබුණා , ආරාධිතයන් 500 කට ඉඩ සැලසිය හැකි එය ඉතා විශාල අලංකාර ගොඩනැගිල්ලක්. මෙම මංගල උත්සවය හින්දු මංගල්ලයක් .මනාලිය සහ මනාලයා ඉතා අලංකාරව ඔවුන්ගේ සම්ප්‍රදානුකුල ඇඳුම් අය්ත්තම් වලින් සැරසී සිටි අතර ,පිච්ච මල් වලින් හිස් සරසා , සාරිවලින් හැඩවී සිටි මනාලියගේ යෙහෙලියන් මෙන්ම වේට්ටි වලින් සැරසුණු මනාලයාගේ යහළුවන් ද සම්ප්‍රදායක ඇඳුම් වලින් සැරසුණු අමුත්තන් අතර කැපී පෙනුනා .

මෘදංග බෙර වාදන සහිත දකුණු ඉන්දීය සංගීත හඬ අතර ඔවුන්ගේ සිරිත් අනුව ඉටු කල මෙම මංගාල්ලය සැබවින්ම අලංකාර වුවක් .

Camma's Hall Halloween pumpkin patch

Today we went to Cammas's Hall farm in Bishop's Stortford to visit their Halloween pumpkin patch. Halloween falls on 31st October and it is a day to celebrate the dead in the Western world. On Halloween evening, small children dressed up in scary costumes will go from house to house for trick or treating. Carving pumpkins and displaying them in front of homes is another Halloween tradition.

In Camma's Hall farm there was a pumpkin patch, a wicked walkway filled with various fearful figures and ghosts, as well as a corn maze. We first went through the wicked walkway, which had figures of ghosts, large spiders, scary scarecrows and other fear inducing creatures. At times I got scared too.

In the pumpkin patch there were lots of pumpkins from various varieties with different shapes, sizes and colours. There were also small trolleys that we used to carry the pumpkins. We ended up purchasing 5 pumpkins at £0.90 per kilo each. The tickets, which included entry to the patch and the wicked walkway, were £6.00 per person. The corn maze however, required additional tickets to be purchased. At the gift shop you can purchase the tool kit required to carve out your pumpkins as well as other Halloween decorations.

When we got home we carved our pumpkins and made a delicious soup from the remaining pumpkin and enjoyed it with garlic bread.

අද අපි ගියා බිශෝප්ස් ස්ටෝර්ට්ෆ්ඩ් වල තියෙන කැමාස් හෝල් ෆාර්ම් එකට වට්ටක්කා මිලදී ගැනීමට හැලෝවීන් දිනය සඳහා. හැලෝවීන් දිනය යෙදෙන්නේ ඔක්තෝම්බර් 31ට .මෙය මළවුන් සැමරීමට බටහිර ජාතිකයන් යොදාගත් දිනයය් .මෙදින සවස කුඩා ළමුන් විශේෂිත භයංකර ඇඳුමින් සැරසී, ගෙයින් ගෙට යමින් ටොපි චොකොලට් ඉල්ලති .මෙය ට්‍රික් ඕ ට්‍රිටින් .වට්ටක්කා ගෙඩිවලින් භයංකර මුහුණු කපා නිවෙස් ඉදිරියේ ප්‍රදර්ශනය කිරීම හැලෝවීන්සි රිතක්.

කැමාස් හෝල් ෆාර්ම් එක වට්ටක්කා වලින් පිරී ��ිබු අතර, විවිධාකාර භයානක හොල්මන් වැනී ආකෘති සහිත ප්‍රදර්ශන කුටි තිබුණි. ඉරිඟු වන්කගිරියක් ද තිබුනා.අපි මුලින්ම හොල්මන් ගුහා බැලුවා ,එහි භූතයන් ,යෝද මකුළුවන් ,භයංකර පඹයන් සහ තැති ගැන්වෙන දේවල් ගොඩක් තිබුනා .එතැනදී මමත් භය උනා .

වට්ටක්කා ගොවිපලේ එක එක වර්ගවල ,එකේ එක හැඩ ,එක එක තරමේ විවිද පාට වට්ටක්කා වලින් පිරි තිබුනා, වට්ටක්ක පුරවා ගෙන යාමට පොඩි කරත්ත තිබුන, අපිත් වට්ටක්ක ගෙඩි 5 ක් කිලෝවක් £0.90 වෙන්න මිලදී ගත්තා. වට්ටක්ක ගොවිපල සහ භූත ගුහා සඳහා ප්‍රවේශ පතක් £6.00 ක් වූ අතර, ඉරිඟු වන්කගිරිය සඳහා වෙනම ප්‍රවේශ පත් අවශ්‍යවිය. ගිෆ්ට් ෂොප් එකෙන් වට්ටක්ක කැපීමට අවශ්‍ය පිහිතල , නොයෙක් වර්ගවල ආකෘති මිලදී ගන්න පුළුවන් .අපි ගෙදර ඇවිත් වට්ටක්කා වලින් මුහුණු කැපුවා ,ඉතිරි කොටස් වලින් වට්ටක්කා රස සුප් එකක් සාදා ගෙන ,ගාර්ලික් බ්‍රෙඩ් සමග රෑ ට කැවා.
