Immortal LarsTheory 

With everybody asking questions on Lars’s immortality, I decided to do my own research.

Heart Beat 

When Steven listened to Lars’s heartbeat it took 6 seconds per beat or 12 bpm (Beats Per Minute). This is far less than the average bpm for a human around Lars’s age. It would usually be 70-100 bpm on average (to keep it simple I used 80 bpm). This means his heart is beating at 15% the average for a boy his age. So his body is functioning at 15% of the time it normally would be. So if his body ages at that rate given the average male life expectancy being around 80 years would mean he will live to 1,200 years!

Lion

Applying this to Lion is pretty easy, the average bpm of a healthy lion is about 60 bpm, giving our lion 9 bpm. Lions in the wild live to be about 16 making our lion live to about 240 years.In “Buddy’s Book” Rose is seen with lions and many people theorize one of them died and that’s how Lion was created. In “Historical Friction” it is stated that beach city was founded nearly 200 years ago. So that would make lion around 200 years old give or take. 

The Trees 

 Some people have said that a number of leaves on the each tree represents the amount of time they have left, Lars’s tree is full and young, while Lion’s has only a few clumps of leaves. This corresponds quite nicely, with Lars having over a 1,000 years left and lion having only about 40.

SU WANTED THEORY: The Pink Conspiracy; Homeworld Civil War Imminent!

Holy hell. Thanks to the Wanted special, we have a timeline granted a very rough timeline of the gem war, and now know around when Pink was shattered. 

According to Blue Zircon here, Rose Quartz and her terrifying renegade Pearl started the rebellion, then a few hundred years later, Pink is shattered. The way it’s explained, we don’t know if there was any more warring immediately following that, or if that’s what caused the order to evacuate before the Diamonds used the corruption song. For this theory, I’m going with the latter.

Then we’re hit with a bombshell;

Gemkind was lied to. Not just a huge bunch of the population. Gemkind.

The people of Homeworld were told the Earth was destroyed. From what we’ve seen so far, we can safely assume only the Diamonds and a select few elites know of the Earth’s existence. (Peridot, Jasper, the Rubies, etc), and by “the Diamond attack”, of course, they’re probably referencing this;

This changes everything. Why did they lie about the Earth? Besides the obvious; You’d want your people to think you’re all-powerful, what i mean is that’s quite a lie to keep up. Why go through all the trouble?

During The Trial, Blue Diamond makes clear the story everyone knows,  

But that’s impossible. Bismuth says in her debut, “It can cut a gem’s physical form in an instant, destroying the body, but never the gem.”.  Our only other eyewitness is Eyeball Ruby, who couldn’t tell Ame-Jasper apart from the real Jasper. 

She can’t tell Purple from Orange? Color plays such a huge role in their society, so important the Crystal Gems called themselves that because crystals have no color! It’s a symbol of their independence from the Diamond Authority. You’re telling me a war-hardened Ruby missed such an important detail as Jasper’s color? The others I can forgive, one of them didn’t even know who Pink Diamond was so we don’t know how new they are, but Eyeball? Is she colorblind?? Either way, we don’t know if she mistook whoever shattered Pink Diamond for Rose Quartz, or if Rose just used a different sword. Her testimony is unreliable.

Is your problem Yellow D?

Yellow Diamond was clearly obstructing justice, and she lost it when Blue Zircon accused them of Pink’s shattering, almost as if the lawyer got too close. At first with her song “What’s the use of feeling Blue?” , we think Yellow Diamond wants to help Blue move on. But now that title’s double-meaning rings out to me and it scares me. “What’s the use of feeling, Blue?” Blue wants closure, not just the cheap revenge Yellow is offering her. Closure means knowing the truth so you can move on. If Yellow Diamond cares as much for Blue as she shows, why is she in such a rush to get Blue to bury this? You don’t just rush someone’s grieving. It’s clear Yellow doesn’t want her to know about something.

Wtf was that worried glance for? Since when does Yellow Pearl give a damn about anyone but her Diamond? That’s not a “oh shit are you okay Blue?” look, that’s a “Shit, are we screwed?” look.

Now. Personally, I never believed the rebellion was strong enough to fend off all 4 Diamonds and their homeworld forces alone. It never made sense, especially with Rose’s message of peace and Bismuth being bubbled for essentially advocating for murder. (though in these circumstances I really don’t blame her someone un-bubble my bb) Something’s wrong here.

Pink Diamond loved humans remember? Where did that come from? Sure, she plucked them up as trophies, but hold on. They’re not on display here, or in any way a display of her power. They’re kept nice and safe and com fortable, like pets. Rose Quartz didn’t understand the concept of love until Greg and her “fused” in the episode “We Need To Talk”, what if this was all Pink knew how to do? Would she have been fine seeing the Earth destroyed just to kill off Rose’s Rebellion? Blue doesn’t think so. Yellow Diamond does call it a “silly zoo” in her song after all, she doesn’t seem very supportive of Pink or Blue Diamond.  

Then there was this little scene.

Idk if anyone else has mentioned this, but I think Blue and Pink were in love. That’s what’s implied here, at least to me. They just paralleled Greg’s grief over Rose to Blue’s over Pink Diamond. That can’t be an accident.

What if Pink started to help Rose Quartz and the rebellion grew into such a threat that White Diamond needed her…removed? Rose did get her Pearl after all.

Listen fam, you can think whatever you want about our Pearl, she’s formerly White Diamond’s. Her gem’s in the right place. Rose would have needed someone on the inside to help her rebellion, and it would be a great show of power to say.. steal the Big Boss’s favorite slave?? The one servant White Diamond would have taken everywhere? Pearl must have known all of White’s secrets, and because of who White Diamond is, all of Homeworld’s secrets. All it would have taken is an offer of freedom. 

With Pink Diamond and White Pearl on her side, the Crystal Gems would have been a massive threat to Homeworld.

I think Pink Diamond’s shattering is a conspiracy that White and Yellow are keeping from Blue because Blue and Pink were too close. They couldn’t allow Pink’s side to bolster the rebellion and start a gem civil war, so, Yellow and White found a way. Once Pink was shattered, they corrupted the survivors to silence any witnesses from the other side and pinned it on Rose Quartz to unify all of Gemkind against her and her Crystal Gems forever.  

Now, there’s the question of who. Well, White Pearl did betray White Diamond… wouldn’t it just be so poetic, to if not have Pink Pearl kill her master, not warn her about it?

Off Colors (Steven Universe)

If Stuck Together is what started a character redemption for Lars, then this episode, along with the one after this one is what fully establishes Lars’ character development that we’ve been wanting to see for a long time and this episode is truly outstanding for both Lars and the introduction of new characters known as the “Off Colors”.

After escaping from Yellow Diamond’s attack, Steven and Lars try to find their way out of Homeworld and end up being spotted by an explosive robonoid.

The robonoid detects Steven’s gem, which causes it to attack and give chase, which makes Lars really afraid.

An arm from below tells them to hide under from the robonoid, being that they don’t have a choice and the stranger reveals to be a conjoined pair of Rutiles, played by Ashly Burch!

Steven and Lars find themselves in a large abandoned Kindergarten and meet other new gems, being Padparadscha, who is a Sapphire who makes late predictions, a Rhodonite being a fusion of a Ruby and Pearl and lastly, Fluorite that is a caterpillar-like fusion of six gems.

The gems refer to themselves as being outcasts or “off color” as the episode title implies and if they were found out, they could get shattered.

Just after, another group of robonoids follows the group in the kindergarten and Steven tells the gems to hide.

Steven reassures to Lars that it’s okay to be afraid and Lars ends up getting scanned by the robonoids, which causes him to be undetected, as he’s organic and not a gem.

Lars ends up protecting all of the gems and stabs a stick into a robonoid, which causes it to explode and throw him hard against a wall, twice!

Steven checks if Lars is okay, until to discover that Lars is actually dead!

The episode ends with Steven bursting into tears, which causes one tear to drop onto Lars’ cheek which starts to make his body glow pink and wakes up with a scar on his eye, not knowing what just happened.

As I’ve mentioned before, this episode and the one after really set a course for Lars getting some much needed character development!

Not only was Lars more aware that he was very afraid of the situations, but he found out that it’s okay to be afraid and ultimately sacrifices his life to save Steven and the Off Colors.

Not only was supposed death really shocking, but even though most of us knew that Lars wasn’t going to get killed off, was it still very gut-wrenching and emotional for both the audience and Steven.

I remember seeing somewhere that Zach Callison leaked a photo on Snapchat that a main character died and this is the episode where it happened, but only for a short period of time.

But what’s even more interesting is that Steven’s tears are able to resurrect life into a color scheme, similar to Lion!

This lets me believe that Lion is actually an Earth lion that Rose Quartz brought to life after it died, which even seemed to be foreshadowed in Buddy’s Book with Rose and her lions surrounding her.

But not only was Lars’ emotional death and redemption the highlight of the episode, the Off Colors group of gems are without a doubt, some of the best characters we’ve seen in the series, yet!

My absolute favourites of the bunch has got to be Padparadscha and a close second is Rutile, only because I love Ashly Burch’s voice and anything she’s in is a major plus, for me.

But the biggest reason why I love the Off Colors is that they show viewers and even kids, that it’s okay to have indifferent character traits, along with physical and mental disabilities and are portrayed as being really helpful and awesome characters!

I like how Padparadscha is still happy for who she is, even though she’s often delayed in what she predicts, which ultimately makes for some really adorable and humourous dialogue.

Rutile, is of course a representation of someone physically disabled, as she mentioned that another Rutile ran away in fear from her appearance.

Many people, including myself can relate to these characters, when being a bit delayed to actions or having a physical disability, so it’s great to see characters like Rutile and Padparadscha getting represented in kids’ shows.

I really like how Rhodonite is often very neurotic and frightened, as well as being a fusion of a Ruby and Pearl, which is something we haven’t seen in the show yet.

Fluorite is a really mysterious and calm Gem, which reminds me of an elderly grandmother like Grandmother Willow from Disney’s Pocahontas, especially with her voice and open mind!

Along with the next and final episode of the Steven Universe “Wanted” event, this episode really serves as a great episode for Lars and introduction to new characters, which makes this a literal “gem” of an episode, as the combination with Lamar Abrams and Jeff Liu ultimately make a great team of storyboarders, but really anything that Jeff Liu boards is always great!

I see some new characters and need to write an episode review on Steven Universe!

Judging by their faces, the pearls must’ve known where pink pearl was during the murder.

That, and they’re realizing that things aren’t adding up.

It almost looks as if Yellow Diamond shattered Pink, since she’s almost too eager to shatter steven and every single rose quartz to “put this whole thing behind” her.

I’ve heard people say, “only a diamond can cut a diamond.” I’m beginning to think that’s exactly what happened in the show.

Navy is Amazing

Holy cow, Navy is smart. Like, really smart. She’s not only the smartest Ruby we’ve seen so far, she’s one of the smartest gems we’ve met period. In “Room for Ruby” she displayed an impressively high level of cunning, emotional control, and tactical thinking:

She falls out of the sky,

Comes face to face with the jerks who threw her and her friends into space,

Quickly realizes she’ll never be able to outfight them,

And right then and there she improvises a plan to get her enemies to let their guard down so she can steal her ship back and save her squad.

And it works!

In one episode she managed to accomplish something both Peridot and Jasper failed to do in two seasons: She escaped from Earth.

I gotta say, I’m really rooting for her and I want to see her again. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a character who’s successfully proactive, and after all of the times the Crystal Gems messed with the Rubies it’s hard not to see this as justified. 

She saved herself, and now she’s going to save her friends. She’s the hero Homeworld needs, not the hero they deserve.

Peridot has always been rather protective of Lapis, but we really saw a lot of this in Room For Ruby.

Whether it was holding up an umbrella for the pair of them to share…

…or looking so horrified and concerned for Lapis after she flew away, Peridot seemed to have Lapis’ well-being at the forefront of her mind throughout the episode.

When Peridot and Steven went to comfort Lapis after she angrily flew away, we see a very gentle side of Peridot coming through for the very first time.  You can really see the love in her face as she looks at Lapis, and notably her voice is extremely tender and soft when she tries to reassure Lapis (which is something we’ve heard seen from Peridot before, who’s normally quite loud and/or brash).

Peridot walks over to stand next to Lapis as she’s talking, never once taking her eyes off Lapis. She’s obviously very distressed by how upset Lapis is and just lets her vent.  She stands close to Lapis whilst she’s getting upset but doesn’t touch her, showing that she respects Lapis’ space – to me, this also implies that Lapis has been upset in front of Peridot before (which is something that Peridot’s ill-fated Twitter account also strongly hinted at), and so Peridot knows to give Lapis space at this time rather than, say, attempting to give her a consoling hug.

Even after Lapis’ joy and laughter at correctly predicting Navy’s betrayal, Peridot still looks very concerned for Lapis – and, again, doesn’t take her eyes of Lapis even once as they go back across the beach.

This all goes to show just how very deeply Peridot cares for Lapis, and how important Lapis’ happiness and wellbeing constantly is to Peridot.

God I keep thinking about what it felt like watching this scene for the first time with my little brother.

I remember how he kept looking at me so hopefully, because at that time I had only recently just come out as a lesbian. He knew how much this meant to me, and how much this meant for other people like me, he didn’t even tease me that I kept tearing up for the rest of the episode.

room for ruby appreciation

((hey look i’m not dead.. again))

i’d just like to put it out there that, navy, is a great example of a passive aggressive, evil.

i just love that she’s a ruby that physically looks and sounds so ... kind and just, un-ruby like, but in the end, she is just another homeworld ruby. That may have learnt to use her natural passiveness to her advantage. She’s not mad and loud like the other ruby’s we’ve seen, that makes her quite unique actually for a non unified (to the crystal gems) homeworld gem. 

another thing, this really teaches- not to trust people just because they are nice or sweet. This is great since lately, all the episodes of Steven universe is about accepting others, understanding and all that positive redemption stuff that we all love, but the thing is... We really can’t just trust and forgive anyone, like garnet told Steven “not everyone deserves your patience” and Steven learns that not everyone can really be good, thus why he has less trust in people now then he originally did in season 1.

anyway, i just wanted to say how it’s interesting to have something different, the episodes are truly planed out amazingly

SU Theory!

So from the events of the most recent episode, all the gems seem to of believed that rose is somehow “trapped” inside steven, or they believed that Steven is a fusion of some sort. But what if… Steven is to rose, as the mirror is to Lapis? Think about that. The mirror presumably gained some power over time, since it began making efforts to communicate, just how Steven is gaining power. Is that just roses form of communication via the vessel that is steven? But rose knew about Steven beforehand, she knew what would happen. Maybe rose was so in love with the concept of humans that she became addicted, tired with just the ones she was “interested in” (as pearl pointed out, she had many) and she wanted to become one. Could Steven be just an experiment from which rose will return from upon her freeing from the mirror, aka poofing Steven?
