One Chicago Rewatch Recap Part 3

Chicago PD S1 Ep1

*On to the first episode of PD and I'm already sad at how the quality of the present seasons has plummeted compared to the earlier stuff

*I mean… the cage in the basement??? This show used to be iconic

*Also I nearly got whiplash watching the first episode focusing on different characters throughout. You mean we can have MORE THAN ONE CHARACTER BE THE FOCUS OF AN EPISODE???? crazy

*No literally Intelligence really used to be doing some fuck-shit and then it would cut to Trudy, Kevin, and Kim doing something straight out of Brooklyn 99 like why did we stop the patrol storylines

*I kept seeing people talking about Kim being a flight attendant and I really thought it was just a fan theory until she started talking about it- seriously I thought it was a meme I had missed out on

*I miss Alvin :(

*I also miss sassy Jay

*"What's the deal with you and Voight? Is he your secret dad or something?" No one will ever be able to convince me that Voight being Erin's dad wasn't supposed to be a huge plot point if Sophia Bush had stayed on the show longer. (I don't want that to sound like a dig against her, I know why she didn't stay and I fully support her and hope she's doing well)

*To bring the conversation back to the shows being able to do more with larger casts than they seem to be able to do now with tiny casts- at one point in this first episode there are T E N people working in Intelligence (Kev and Kim are helping out, Jin doesn't go into the field, and Jules dies) but like??? TEN???? And somehow in the standard 42 minute run they have time to show scenes showcasing everyone's personalities, show them all interacting and being friends, show them doing the actual job, show them with their families… like??? There are 5 people in Intelligence now in the current season (no I'm not counting Torres because he's never there) and the show only manages to focus on one of them the whole episode (unless its a Kim or Adam ep and then the other is included because those two can't have any storyline that doesn't revolve around the other) I know after 10 years of this there's only so much you can do (I mean how many times can they arrest a drug dealer and have it be interesting) but damn. At least with a larger cast you could mix it up and have different pairs working together instead of the same thing every single episode.

TL;DR the earlier seasons are stronger than the current ones, but that's to be expected with shows that have gone on this long. I still very much enjoy them all and will still be watching <3

One Chicago Rewatch Recap Part 2

Chicago Fire S2 Ep1-9 *Again with me wanting Kelly to be a dad, why couldn't him and Renee have a baby together, why didn't we do that *So Benny Severide has how many other children exactly? We meet Katie this season and we have mentions of "the boys" from another of his marriages but how many are there *On that note, it would be so cool to have a new candidate at 51 who is a half brother of Kelly (really I'm just hoping for the show to have any reason for Kelly to interact with other characters besides Stella and Boden) *Everyone used to be so close and have so much fun, now in the current seasons everyone is paired up and has little to no relationship with anyone else. What happened to the 51 family dynamic *Also why are there only 4 person trucks now? The cast used to be so much bigger and somehow better managed multiple storylines than they do now (seriously like if they all have to be 4 person trucks then at least give us two more regulars on Engine because why are Herrmann and Ritter doing all of that by themselves LMAO) *Gabby and Shay spending the first half of this season at odds with each other and the whole time I want to yell at my screen that Shay won't be here forever please make up *JAY HALSTEAD FIRST SIGHTING *No but honestly that whole thing with Jay and Gabby and Molly's had me hooked just as much the second time as it did the first. It would've been interesting to see them together long term but I guess that would've been hard to manage over both shows *I'm gonna start a tally for how many times we get a "They want to shut down our firehouse!" plotline because I swear it happens damn near every season: Tally 1 *Matt's whole storyline with the Darden boys is so sweet and I had forgotten that they were such an important part of his life. When he dipped out in season 10 for them I was kind of iffy about the reasoning but now it makes so much more sense *Matt and Gabby finally got together after a season and a half of pining, and if I remember correctly this is the part where I no longer like them together because if One Chicago is gonna do one thing consistently, it's have characters do a will-they-won't-they for several seasons only to have them get together and ruin them immediately lol

One Chicago Rewatch Recap

So I recently decided I wanted to do a full rewatch of Chicago Fire, PD, and Med because it's been a while since I initially started watching all of these shows back in 2021. I just finished season 1 of Fire and I have so many thoughts: *Peter Mills! I completely forgot that he existed but I remember the first time watching it not liking him? But I can't remember why because so far he's great. *Shayveride having the most wholesome friendship hits so much different now *On that note, I really wish they would've been able to have a baby together, I think it would be so cool to see Kelly with a 10ish year old now in the current seasons. *Otis :( *Everyone looks so young!!! *What was the reason for the show to introduce Jimmy, Boden's stepson, only for him to never be mentioned or talked about ever again *Herrmann and Cindy being the original wholesome power couple in the franchise god I love them *I've never been a Dawsey shipper but I love the pining and tension between them in season 1 *Voight being the main antagonist for the first half of this season is so funny to me. The way his character is written is just *chefs kiss* *Also the entire PD backdoor pilot episode is incredible (and so was Meds if I'm remembering correctly) *Scott Eastwood just. randomly being in a few episodes of this franchise sends me *I honestly forgot about the Molly's storyline so when Herrmann didn't just own a bar from the beginning I was a little confused *I completely forgot that Joe Cruz just straight up abandons a civilian (Flaco the gang member) in a burning building and then announces that the floor is cleared but it made me CACKLE I will always ride at dawn for Joe Cruz, if Joe Cruz has 0 fans I'm dead Overall I love this season and it's nice to see how exciting the shows used to be with the original cast and everything. I do think out of all three shows, Fire has done the best job at staying consistently good and entertaining (although the arson investigation storylines are starting to drive me up the wall) Anyway I plan on doing these little updates whenever something major happens or at least once for the end of each show's season. Also if anyone is interested in a really helpful tool to watch all of these episodes in the proper order there's an amazing spreadsheet with all of the info on it that is kept up to date. this but with PD especially because with the amount of breaks these shows take now it will be literal MONTHS between character centric episodes like I know all three shows do it but at least Med and Fire are able to balance more than one thing at a time with much larger casts. Season 10 of PD was so difficult to get through
