as someone currently studying art, i was wondering if you do art full time or do you need to do a job on the side?

I'm assuming you're asking about working full time on your own personal art project as opposed to freelancing or being employed in a company in the creative industries?

i make art for myself which means 1. i'm poor and 2. have a job. LOL i don't recommend working on comics as a way to make a living (also the industry sucks, everyone is overworked and underpaid).

if art is something personal to you and that you do for the love of it, then honestly i recommending finding any job that can pay the bills, so you can just focus on the specific type of art that you want to make.

yes, you won't have as much time to work on your projects but i think that's better than having to constantly worry whether you can afford to buy food or have healthcare because you have to make money from your art. you won't be making any art if you don't have your basic needs met.

also depending on your field and where you live, there may be things like government grants that you can apply for to gain funding for your personal art projects. might be worth looking into!
