The thing that really scared me watching 7x15 is how it kept emphasizing Emori’s hopelessness and willingness to lay down her life if she had to – how she’s gone from ruthless self-preservation to putting everyone else first. For a moment, it did feel like some kind of conclusion to her arc and justification for killing her and having her accept and be ‘okay’ with it in a selfless way. And she might be but I was not!!
Because y’know what? YES, it’s a beautiful arc that Emori has had learning to care about other people, becoming the heart of Spacekru and then Sanctum. But the whole reason she wasn’t that from the start – the ENTIRE reason she started out a cold, cutthroat person who’d rob and stab and frame people without remorse – was that the world had rejected and abused her and treated her like garbage. She was tossed out to die as a baby for something out of her control. Earth did not want her to survive. Her “selfish” mentality was an act of DEFIANCE in a world where she didn’t matter and no one was ever going to protect her if she didn’t protect herself.
It took receiving love and kindness from people – some of whom she barely knew – for her to let more and more people in, form these bonds of trust and loyalty, and have the safety to grow a lot as a person beyond just “how do I make it to the next day, even if I have to screw someone else over.” (Like, she actually did this very quickly with Murphy! But it got to a point where it expanded to everyone else too.) She was able to thrive and find herself, and became a more empathetic, loving, generous, huggy person in the process. Frankly doing more for others than she even got credit for!
And it just wouldn’t sit right with me if the conclusion to all that was that Emori SHOULD let herself be discarded, even if that’s the “noble” thing to do, because for reasons *completely unearned by this dumb season* we’re supposed to think what’s happening in Bardo is more important than her one little life and she sees that too. (I keep thinking about Murphy’s own resignation at the end of S5 before Monty and Emori and Bellamy refused to leave him behind. It’s this inevitable thing in front of her, that they’ll have no choice but to let her go.)
So it killed me to see not only Murphy (obviously) but Raven and even Jackson be like “no, I do not accept that, you’re not insignificant, you’re important to us, this doesn’t have to be an either/or choice and if it is WE ARE CHOOSING YOU.”
That’s so heartwarming and satisfying to me?? The Emori we met in S2 would never believe she’d be ready to die to save her family and the ‘world’ and some greater number of people… and she’d also never believe she’d be surrounded by people who love her so much they’re fighting tooth and nail to save her anyway.

I just hit me again that Bellamy doesn't know that Kane died (or at least we don't see it) like HIS FATHER FIGURE AND HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOWWW shbdd it'd have killed him if he found out
I know that kills me a lot because I really liked their dynamic, more in the fanfic land rather than the canon one because I think Kane sometimes was unfair to him or acting as a moral compass when he wasn’t one himself. But I loved their dynamic and their talks.
In my headcanon land I like to imagine that Kane was the one to talk to him after Mount Weather in season 2, that he noticed that things weren’t good for him, that he was suffering and in pain, that he wasn’t eating and throwing all his efforts into protecting the 48 that he helped saved.
He always smiled when during council meetings Bellamy stood up and spoke in favor of the kids, asking for them not to be given hard tasks, begging for more tents for them since they couldn’t sleep inside the ark, asking for them to go outside the gates with him and hunt since they were experienced, convince them that they knew how to shoot and could bear a weapon or insist to be kept outside of heavy activity if there were some hurt during the mountain trials done on them.
Kane loved the way he fought for his people with such fever, with so much passion. He protected them from the grown ups and their sometimes irrational decisions.
But sometimes he wondered who took care of him you know?
Clearly the leadership had been split between him and Clarke before-they bore the burden, they made the hard choices, all of the decisions but now-
Now it was all him.
And he was alone.
HIs sister, Kane noticed, spent most of her time outside the gates, hunting, riding her horse, coming up with plans to leave the camp with Lincoln, ways of sneaking him in, looking for pathways to the seaclan that will secure them safe passage away from Lexa’s warriors that have been sent to kill the grounder.
She spent no time around her brother. There was no animosity there but Kane could see that not just her but the other kids, despite loving Bellamy bore that fear in them, for what he and Clarke did to the mountain men.
They relied on him, cared for him but in a way you cared for a big brother that you knew could take care of himself on his own and who protected you but didn’t expect anything in return.
Bellamy was truly alone. At night he lingered by the fire, unable to sleep. He barely ate his rations and even when he took them from the mess hall, he gave them away to the kids that were hurt and more hungry.
He drank from the moonshine he confiscared from Jasper and took all night guard shifts because he couldn’t sleep.
One night, Kane and Abby were discussing trade plans late in the councillor’s chambers and Kane propped his legs on his chair while Abby glanced through the window and watched as Bellamy walked to the gates for his guard shift.
“That kid is not okay, is he?” Abby utters when he passes by, shoulders hunched, face tired.
“No.” Kane follows her eyes and rubs his eyes tiredly “He needs help. He’s a mess without Clarke.”
“Aren’t we all?” Abby says quietly resting her back on the uncomfortable chair “Does he even eat? He looks like he’s lost weight.”
“I don’t think so.” Kane walks up to the window and gets a better view of Bellamy whos climbing on the guard post, rifle hanging from his shoulder “Maybe you should call him in for his mandatory guard medical evaluation early?”
“First thing tomorrow.” Abby decides.
But then again there’s no tomorrow, their plan falls through because the next day they get word from Indra that Clarke’s in danger and Kane is set outside into the wind to look for her. He recruits Bellamy to help and by the time they all come back home two days later, Bellamy’s leg is bleeding, soaking the floor of the back of the rover and he’s trying to desperately fight them all, yelling his lungs out.
“Clarke-” he said gripping Abby’s hand “I need to get to Clarke! Please, let me back out!” he mumbled eyes wide and panicked “Please.”
And both Abby and Kane’s heart’s broke and they wondered why on earth didn’t they ask themselves earlier if Bellamy Blake was okay?

Love is messy. It means arguing and making up and laughing and crying and struggling and sometimes it doesn’t seem worth it. But it is. And at the end when you’re in love, no matter what happens, you forgive each other.
