My Hopes for IR? Jonas doesn’t die because I want him and Magnus become actual friends, okay? Magnus needs a friend that isn’t Cleo, and since Magnus and Jonas have started to work together in FT I kinda hoped they would become friends. Oh and Felix , I want him to become friends with Magnus, too. (If he doesn die)  It would be a-mazing to see a friendship between Nic and Magnus, but IF that happens it will take some time. First of all, Nic will have problems accepting Magneo in the first place, but for Cleo’s sake he might be willing to, but even then, I can see him struggling with getting along with Magnus, and a friendship would take a long time to develop.  Let Magnus have some friends!
Also: I am not going to accept Nic’s death. He just can’t die.

After All
One way I really hope this ends. After the smoke has cleared, Nic is still alive and everything is okay for at least a few seconds. I couldn’t think of a better title
All he could feel was the overwhelming sense of feeling everything again. He felt the cold air on his skin and the lingering exhaustion throughout his entire body. The sky was clouded in dark dark storm clouds and the thought came to Nic that he should get up and find shelter, but he couldn’t bring himself to do just that. He could hardly wrap his mind around what had just happened, how he was still here.
Kyan had possessed him. He thought that he was fairly certain of that, but after, he had no idea. How long had Kyan been living in his body? And how had he been dispelled from him? How was he even still alive? Was he really alive?
There was a flurry of breeze then and Cleo was kneeling right beside him. She looked as if she hadn’t groomed herself in a solid week and as if she hadn’t slept for longer, but she was alive so that must have counted for something.
“Nic? Nic! Nic, please say something.”
He opened his mouth just enough to speak. “Cleo?” he said, igniting a fit of coughing that felt as if it were pulling his lungs out of his chest.
Cleo’s cheeks were wet with tears in an instant. She put a hand to his face, carefully pushing aside strands of hair without saying another word.
“What happened?” he managed to scratch out. He pushed himself up to sit up before quickly falling back down.
“Stop!” Cleo said urgently, putting a hand down on his shoulder to keep him down. “Don’t strain yourself.”
“What happened?”
“What do you remember?”
He inhaled deeply and exhaled, his chest shaking, as he tried to remember. The last solid thing he remembered. They were in the pit, and Ashur… “Kyan- he possessed me… I don’t remember much after that.”
She gave a simple nod, but she seemed almost relieved.
Just behind Cleo came two other people who only proceeded to assure Nic that he needed more answers to what had happened, although he wasn’t sure that he wanted every detail. Jonas and Princess Lucia stood behind Cleo.
“Glad to see you’re well,” Jonas said with a weary smile.
“I think well is stretching it a bit,” he replied.
“You’re alive aren’t you?” Lucia said. “I wasn’t even sure you would make it.”
“Guess I’m just lucky.” He reached his hand up to Cleo’s shoulder. “Help me up.”
Cleo pulled his arm around her shoulders and slowly stood up. Jonas came around and helped him up as well, and even though his whole body trembled, he managed to stay on his feet with their help.
“We should get back to the palace,” Jonas suggested.
Nic wanted to ask where they were exactly, but he thought if he tried he would pass out. He leaned on Jonas most of their journey, but Cleo never left his side as they made their way to the Limerian Palace.
When they reached the palace, they were escorted inside. They made their way to the throne room, and as they walked in, Nic could feel his strength ebbing away. In a moment, Cleo had run to meet Magnus in a warm embrace that, not so long ago, Nic wouldn’t have thought the prince capable of. Lucia went first to a cradle from whence she lifted a small bundle from, a child. There was a baby? Lucia’s? He might have contemplated it more if his blood wasn’t rushing in his ears.
He didn’t feel his grip on Jonas’ arm going slack, but lucky enough for him, Jonas did. He heard someone say his name just he felt himself begin to slip away. Jonas caught him by his arm before he fell, but he thought he felt another pair of arms assisting him. His chest rattled with each breath. He felt the cold floor underneath him, his upper body resting on someone. He pulled his eyes open with effort and staring down at him was Prince Ashur. Nic opened his mouth to speak, but was quickly stopped before he could get a word out.
“Don’t speak,” Ashur commanded. “Save your energy.”
There were a hundred things Nic wanted to say. Instead, he simply lied there, staring up at the prince. Ashur pushed a lock of Nic’s hair aside and his fingers stayed there, simply running over his fiery red hair, a description that he would no longer welcome.
He heard a rustle behind him and looked back to see Jonas getting to his feet. He looked around and saw Felix was among their group as well Amara. Where the others had gotten to, he could only hope. Everyone was safe right now thought. Cleo was safe and happy, Ashur was alive, and he was here with them both. He looked back to Ashur and found his eyes still trained on him. Nic found his eyes beginning weigh down, the little energy he’d had quickly running out. He took Ashur’s hand in his and pulled it down to his chest with no resistance from the prince. His eyes fell closed with the warmth of the prince in the cold throne room.
When Nic next awoke, he was under blankets in a soft bed, sweat dripping off his skin. He turned his head and found sunlight shining through the window. Had he slept through the afternoon? Was it morning? He slowly pushed himself up, trying to banish the nightmare from his memory. That was over. Maybe things wouldn’t be exactly okay, but that was all over.
He pushed the blankets off of himself and pushed his legs off the edge of the bed. He pushed his hand through his hair, soaked from a cold sweat. He was only wearing a simple shirt and pants. He looked around but couldn’t find any of his other clothing or his shoes. He walked out of the room and found himself walking down the cold corridors of the Limerian palace. A maid came around the corner, and as soon as she saw him, she came forward almost worried.
“Are you all right?” she asked, and it occurred to Nic that he must have looked like death.
“Um, yes.”
“The princes and princesses are at breakfast right now if you would like to join them,” she informed him.
He nodded. “Thank you.” He went on his way to find the dining hall and the maid went on her own way. As he reached his destination, he heard the subtle sounds of conversation and silverware. He walked through the tall doors and found everyone from when he’d first arrived seated at the table set with food.
Magnus was first to notice his presence. “Come to join the living at last, Cassian?”
Nic walked further in, but he wasn’t entirely sure if he would be able to stay on his feet. He found Cleo among the group first and she smiled brightly at me in a way that required he return the glance with a smile of his own.
A chair pushed back against the floor and Nic’s gaze flew to Ashur. “Nicolo.” Ashur moved first, walking around the table and stopping only when he was just in front of Nic.
Nic felt his heart race, but he just stared back at Ashur. These feelings had been muddled in his head from the start, but this… what was he supposed to do? He felt so many things jumping around in his head and he started to lose his balance. Ashur rushed forward and caught him as he slowly regained his balance. He looked at Ashur and could feel a blush dusting over his cheeks. He held onto Ashur and stepped closer. He leaned forward, pressing their lips together lightly. He pulled back and thought that if he hadn’t been holding onto Ashur he would have fallen by now.
With just a soft and comforting smile, Ashur lead Nic to the table where they both joined everyone for breakfast.

and Timotheus is probably chilling in the sanctuary watching all this go down like:

FK Fanfiction Masterpost
So I know this is a page I have on my blog, but if people are on mobile I don’t think they can see it, so I figured I’d make a masterpost! (Masterlist? Masterpost. Idk.) This is stuff I’ve written ranging back to before CS up to now. I don’t know that I’ll have time to write anything else before IR with school starting again in just a few days, but depending on how IR goes, I’ll probably still write stuff for FK even after the series ends. Anyway, until then, enjoy!
(Also, fun fact, in compiling this I found that some of the links on my blog page don’t work anyway, so I guess now I’ll get to fixing those).

Done! I started planning this all the way back in September, and now it’s complete :) I wanted to give Morgan Rhodes’s Falling Kingdoms series a proper send-off, so here is an all-stars poster of all of the major characters: Gaius, Melenia, Lucia, Alexius, Magnus (prince of sass), Cleo, Amara, Ashur, Felix, Jonas, and Lysandra.
I took a lot of inspiration from Charlie Bowater’s phenomenal Wings and Ruin artwork, plus a little from @alex-castellanos’s awesome poster for Susan Dennard’s Truthwitch. All of these gorgeous all-stars fan arts made me eager to try out an ensemble picture of my own.
It’s a little bittersweet, knowing that the series that got me to fall back in love with reading in high school is coming to a close, but I can’t wait to see how things wrap up. Thank you, Morgan! <3
(P.S. What you did to us at the end of Crystal Storm was very not nice. Please be more kind to us in this one please. My heart can only take so much. )

Responding to your recent post about I was worrying about that too. Why do you think it seems like Cleo isn't as committed as Magnus? It just feels that way because I don't really see others questioning Magnus's commitment as often as Cleo. Idk, what do you think?
Okay, so I’ll admit that the phrasing of my concern isn’t really fair to Cleo. She doesn’t seem like the cheating type, and I don’t think she’d straight up have an affair, especially if there’s any sliver of hope Magnus is still alive.
I think the reasons people are worried about Cleo and not Magnus is that 1) Cleo is in a position where she could be involved with someone else (i.e. she and Taran are out and about and not, you know, stuck in a coffin underground) and 2) Cleo has shown more interest in other people romantically than Magnus has throughout the series, I feel. Sure, Magnus has slept with more people, but it’s been pretty clear that this was really just physical, and it was because he was searching for actual love and affection that he’s now found in Cleo. Cleo, on the other hand, was in love in with Theon and even seemed to consider Jonas somewhat for a little while before she really accepted her feelings for Magnus. I actually think, speaking purely character-wise, that either of them would be equally likely to seek romantic companionship if they thought the other was dead–Magnus more physical, Cleo more emotional–but with Magnus in the state he’s in, I don’t really feel like we have to worry about that with him in this book.
If anything were to happen between Cleo and Taran, and I admit that it’s perfectly likely it won’t, I don’t think it would be more than a quick, accidental kiss initiated by Taran. And for that to happen, I think Cleo would have to really believe Magnus was dead and be in a state of pure emotional vulnerability.
Really, I think it comes down to whether Magnus is separated from everyone else for a large portion of the book or whether they find him pretty early on. If Magnus comes back right away, I don’t think we have anything to worry about. If he’s gone for enough of the book that Cleo might start to believe he’s actually dead, something like the above scenario becomes a possibility.
At the end of the day, however, I think it’s more of a concern of “will we the readers have to put up with this drama” versus any of us really thinking Cleo is the type of character to be unfaithful. Again, Magneo is on the cover, so I’m sure things will work out for them in the end.
(Also I’m sure this is way longer of a response than you were expecting but I have a lot of thoughts on the matter, lol)

I guess some of the uncertainty concerning Cleos feelings for Magnus (at least on my part) comes from CS. Cleo started the book claiming to have complete trust in Magnus, but then by the end (after wanting to hide their relationship) she seemingly easily turned against him during their final fight. Not to say Magnus was a complete angel lol but Cleo seemed to be the most uncertain of the two.
That’s true as well! I think that though Cleo does trust Magnus, she has been betrayed too many times to just go full in. I don’t think she actively thinks he’s going to betray her anymore, but I think she’s always known, at the back of her mind, that it was a possibility. And I can see that in the event she was betrayed, she would probably find it easier to try to accept it quickly and keep her head up rather than wallow in it. I like that about Cleo, actually. She does love Magnus. If anyone asks, she trusts him, and I believe she actually does. But she is also realistic enough to know that they are still in the midst of war, a war started by his family, and she would be naive to completely forget that he has a horse in this race too.

Looking at chapter 2, how do you think Cleo would react if she honestly believed Magnus was dead?
Hmm. I think if she does reach that point in Immortal Reign, I actually doubt it will be some major explosion blowout. From chapter 2 it seems pretty clear that someone just telling her Magnus is dead isn’t likely to work. I think if it takes Magnus a long time to reunite with them narrative-wise, what would be more likely is that Cleo would have a moment where she would eventually give up hope and have a sort of meltdown (crying, dramatic thunderstorm caused by her powers, the like).
That said, if someone who does directly know what happened to Magnus–say, Kurtis–were to tell her, that she may believe, and if that happens, I doubt Kurtis is going to make it very far.

How do you think Lucia and Jonas will react to finding out about Magneo? We have an idea how Nic will react, but what do you think Nic would take it?
I think Lucia’s reaction is going to be amazing because it’ll be over the top. She has no idea about the two of them, so she’s going to be shocked and angry and in disbelief. Jonas at least has some idea based on prior interactions he has had with the two of them, so I see him as being the most supportive one even if he’s not 100% open to it in the beginning.
Nic is the hardest to tell because 1) we have no idea if the real Nic will ever find out and 2) if he doesn’t, does it mean anything to Kyan? Obviously he knows about Magnus’s feelings and greatly suspects Cleo’s, but it would take a lot to get him to accept it (like possibly seeing Magnus sacrifice something for Cleo, etc.). Even then, it will take him time.

I saw your ask about Magneo possibly having an open relationship and even with them being apart for a long time I can't see them doing that. I think because in that universe it seems that Wives are for obligation and Mistresses are for love and other needs, so it made sense when Magneo were first married and Magnus slept with Amara, but now that Magneo do love each other and will probably end up together I just can't see it happening. Is that just me?
Marriage is seen as an obligation among the royals, sure. Even with that, there was still an idea that love and marriage are connected as Emilia (the most dutiful princess) refused to get married because she wasn’t in love with her suitor. Similarly Cleo wanted to marry Theon and asked her father to break the engagement with Aron. So even in their world love and marriage are idealized, even if in most cases it didn’t happen.
So yes, I can’t see that being a possibility considering the circumstances of Magnus’s and Cleo’s relationship.
