"Well, this is a workplace rather than a home, but we at the Wright Anything Agency like to think that we're a 'home away from home' for our members."
He glanced over Klavier's slightly extra-glossy appearance with a look of vague thoughtfulness. "Come in."

"... Is this because of how we hooked up? It's only right that both of us were out of our depths when it came to... Certain acts."
@thegrapesdepression asked: đ”đ¶
RELATIONSHIP BUILDINGâŠÂ
-and my muse will confess to something they wish they didnât do that affected your muse, and my muse will reveal one of their biggest regrets involving yours.
â⊠Some days. I wish I hadnât told you- back in that alley, what I am.â
â You couldâve lived without knowing. I couldâve moved on, let you be ignorant of my issues, the things that would come knocking on your door because of me. Keeping it all to myself, you wouldâve never needed to worry, or wondered what was with that dog following you around was doing.â Itâd just been a cautious game at first, then out of concern for a night wandering man.
âAnd I regret⊠taking you into my apartment, and having everything start complicated. I know she doesnât trust me because of it- I donât think she ever will.â

On his bed, in a newly wrapped box is a wool sweater, and beside it, a small sheep plush toy, the kind with a zipper to remove its' coat. The label has been torn off, and the attached, new sticker has the writing ' From Lang.'.
"Oh, you sly dog..."
Once unboxed, he lays the sweater out on his rumpled bedsheets. The soft weaving is an inoffensive Carolina blue--better than his dull hoodies, but not overdone. Phoenix slips off his shirt to pull the sweat on, and it fits comfortably over his skin.
He stretches his arms out and looks at the sleeves. It's been a long time since someone like this gave him a sweater as a present...
This time there's no monogrammed heart or strange game of bait-and-switch. He picks up the plush sheep and squeezes it, briefly startled when it makes a squeaky toy noise.
He likes this sweater a lot more.

"I want to play," Phoenix mumbles. Just not in the way the wolf had expected. His shoulders slump and he heaves a sigh. It's a note for the future; don't get too hands-on and set off Lang's appetites without real intent.
He looks up at Lang again and ventures a small, questioning smile. "I guess that leaves with just... Saying hello."
thegrapesdepressionâ:
Even that small thump makes a nerve jump inside of Phoenix, easily triggered while heâs in this state of mind. Langâs words speak deeply to himâthe wolfman has hit directly on the former attorneyâs stifled fears.
He hesitantly glances up at Lang, finally making eye contact again, and manages to get a sheepish chuckle out of his dry throat. âUh⊠Not exactly. It was more of a⊠A kind of friendly hello, since weâre a little⊠Over-friendly by now.â Thatâs as good of an explanation as he can get out.
â Youâre targeting me with my favorite attention, and donât want to play. Cruel game.â Brushing briskly on his own chest, the attempt to rid himself of the residuals of two very warm palm prints on his bare skin. One of the open spaces he left to the air, and never perceived as a weak point.
â Iâll recover. Somehow, some wayâŠâ
âGimme a hello without your hands, promise Iâll take it more gently.â

At the hug, Apollo nearly dropped the groceries, half in awe, half in concern. Clearly, things werenât alright. If only Apollo knew what was wrong or how to deal with it.Â
âMr. Wright, what happened?âÂ
He wasnât sure what else to do. Does he hug him back? Offer him some of the grape juice he just bought for him? Just stand here and let him⊠do whatever was happening? Heâd never experience this coming from an employer⊠not like he had much experience, heâd only realized until after two years of working under the âCoolest Defense in the Westâ that he wasnât the best role model or boss after all.Â
The hug steadied his nerves until his anxiety from the dream and other thoughts could come along, such as, How does someone this short even see over the bench?Â
Apollo was barely bigger than Trucy. Maybe thatâs why Phoenix reached for a hug so quickly. Nothing comforted him like embracing his own beloved daughter, and Apollo was a decent stand-in. Hearing that worried voice by his ear helped, too.
Okay, Iâm probably freaking the kid out.
Phoenix suddenly let go and took a step back. He reached up to tug at the brim of his hat, sighing. â... Nothing. Heh. Just a bad dream. Forget about it.â

Apollo stood, groceries in hand, but giving his boss a confused but worried look.
âMr. Wright? Iâm, uh, back from the store. Is Trucy home from school yet?â He asked, noting the tired, but panicked look in his eye.Â
ââŠAnd is⊠everything alright?â
The store--right, he had sent Apollo out to pick up some junk, though Phoenix couldnât currently remember what. He pushed himself off the couch to stagger to his feet, taking a couple steadying breaths.
Still, he could see that familiar coldness projected over Apolloâs face like the effect of a pair of particularly nightmarish 3-D glasses. He sighed, swaying a little, before stumbling forward and wrapping the younger man in an awkward hug.
This was not Kristoph, not even Kristophâs intellectual offspring. Apollo felt short, warm, and innocent in Phoenixâs arms. Innocent and so much better than the rookieâs former mentor. And the former attorney could sob in relief if he hadnât killed such easy emotions in himself years ago.
@xmfxne weighs heavy on one's mind
Many subjects swim through Phoenix's dreams--fears, moments of the past, and even the classic, cartoon-like gibberish a sleeping mind creates. This was different. This was the kind of dream that should have stopped after that final trial.
Phoenix still had that image seared into his mind's eye when he jolted awake on the couch. His new apprentice, Apollo, neatly dressed in a blood-red suit as he stood on the witness stand and spoke those words he heard mockingly spoken in the past: evidence is everything in court.
He bodily startled as the office door opened, looking up to see Apollo coming in, already in the middle of saying something Phoenix failed to process.

What does your muse need? This can be something material or abstract.
someone to rescue him
someone to trust to help him put kristoph away forever. short of that, a 5k loan would be pretty helpful for paying off some debts and fixing a few things around the agency.

Headcanon memes, comfort character edition!
How would you describe your museâs morality? What are their core values?
nickâs morals are a little more... flexible these days during his disbarment. principles like âalways believe in your clientâ have fallen by the wayside; the vast majority of interactions he has with people comes in the form of poker games and whatever the hell he does with kristoph, so. heâs a lot more flexible and, uh, avoidant when it comes to telling the truth, too. being cryptic, deflective, and half-honest is his norm now and are very hard habits to break.
but at his core, phoenixâs morals are the same: seek truth and justice. support family. donât hurt people.
heâs impossibly persistent, deeply loving, and as harmless as a fly. heâll always have those core principles even in the darkest times.
