I think an engagement ring is important because its a representative of what you're offering

Like, do you want to offer a new ring: you can give her a comfortable, wealthy life, bespoke love that can't be defined

Do you want to give her a vintage ring or a family ring, a love that's lasting and romantic and been through trials and has history

Do you want to give her something uncut and rough: wild and adventurous and exciting

Or something clean cut: calm and understanding and straightforward

Do you want to make her feel like a princess or a fairy

Does she want to show off her ring with the biggest diamond or have something small and subtle and private

What colour does she want it

Does she want classic, gold or silver or platinum

Something more unique, rose gold or black

Should it be plated or higher quality so she doesn't need to get it redipped every 7 months

Does it express her as a person but does it also express who you want you both to be together

Does it express how you feel about her

The cost doesn't matter but the ring is important and its a really special message to give someone

Which ring??

So here's the thing

I'm sure everyone can agree that one of the most important parts of getting engaged is choosing the perfect ring. What cut do you want? What setting? What material, stone, shape? One of my biggest stressors early on was figuring out what size ring N wore. This was easily sorted out when I just... Asked her.

Although she's expecting a proposal at some point so maybe this was easier for me than it would be for some other people

Well now I need to find the perfect ring and this is honestly the most stressed I've been about jewelry in my entire life. I have a couple of different options.

She likes 'unusual', she likes opal and pink sapphire and rose gold etc etc

Unfortunately I have to factor in the cost as well because (despite working two jobs) I'm still not earning a whole lot and with a toddler and a baby on the way, I'm not exactly rolling in cash. Especially around Christmas as well.

My current 2 options are as such:

- I use my mums engagement ring which was gifted to me a long time ago for this exact purpose. It needs some work: it needs resizing and cleaning for certain, but I'd also want to get the centre diamond resized and possibly replaced for a pink sapphire of some description

Or

- I get her the ring she's been talking about for months and just hope that I have enough money to cover it (it's expensive but I could do it on a monthly payment)

Right this second I'm leaning towards the first because of the baby. If I suddenly win the lottery though we all know what it's going towards 👀
