I still remember the nurses who laughed at me after major spine surgery when I was walking around with my butt out because I didn't know to bring shorts to the hospital and wasn't allowed to double my gowns due to the incision location. I still remember the aid who told me that I smelled after days of being unable to move my limbs or get out of bed while sweating uncontrollably from spinal shock and agonizing pain. I sat and cried after that because I had overcome so much that hospital stay just to be dehumanized. Never did they ask if I wanted something to cover up or assistance bathing. Just laughed at me and joked with each other.

I also remember the nurse who checked on me extra during the night with a hospital stay in the middle of covid because they kicked my mom out and I have trauma about being in the hospital alone. She made extra visits to make sure I was okay just like she promised my mom. I remember the nurse who held my hand and called me honey as my limbs trashed and shook from spinal shock.

Basically being a good nurse and being a bad nurse to patients does stay with a person. It's been years and many other hospital stays since a lot of these instances and I still remember them clearly. I know nurses are burnt out, traumatized, and exhausted. Nurses deserve better treatment. But so do patients.

#shout-out to the doctor who looked at the open bleeding wound on my hand #so deep the insides were coming out #like the stuff that's supposed to be on the inside of your skin? was on the outside. #that had taken six stitches and not healed correctly so the inside stuff was STILL coming out of my hand #and told me to my face #that it was healed #like this wound was still actively bleeding. she had blood on her gloves. #(from roughly handling my hand for about five minutes and making it worse) #and she told me it was healed. #and that no she wouldnt refer me to a specialist because it was healed and i was clearly only worried about the appearance of the 'scar' #and plastic surgeons only deal with healed wounds (apparently my hand was both healed and not healed?) so i could come back in a year #and ask again #it had been two months at this point where i had been unable to use my hand at ALL #because this was on my palm #fucking cunt wanted me to go a YEAR of not using my hand AT ALL because of the OPEN FUCKING WOUND #made another appointment in the parking lot as soon as i left (in tears. bitch hadnt even given me another bandaid.) #and the next one saw it and went ''oh dear'' immediately and only barely touched the edges of it #and immediately referred me to a specialist who solved it ENTIRELY in ONE visit. #scar is barely visible now. #but yeah fuck doctors. fuck nurses. i dont trust them until they act trustworthy anymore. #went to the hospital bc was passing out and seizing #told the nurse it felt kind of like a pots pass out #because i wanted to give them all the information i could bc they're supposed to try and fix me #mistake #everyone who been faking pots recently has apparently set them on guard so she went 'are you diagnosed?' which. obviously. yes. #like thats why i said it. #and then they ignored me passing out and shaking / seizing in my chair for four hours #ma wasn't allowed in bc covid #but i texted her every time i woke up from a faint #and she kept calling them to go 'hey can one of you check on my kid?' and apparently they answered yes but. did not.

I’ll never forget the time I was sitting with this guy, nice kid, didn’t know him well, I think we must have had a bottle of wine or some questionable hashish or something, and in response to an awkward silence I just started talking and ended up going on a long meandering rant about how ugly American robins are. we still get immediately shoved out of our immersion in tv shows or films when The Girl find a dead body and immediately shrieks - we just don't find it realistic because we're pretty confident most people would gasp rather than shriek (i.e. sharp inhale rather than sharp exhale) and it also feels unnecessarily (and predictably) misogynistic too, as men encountering corpses almost never do the same on screen
