brennan literally said that the ratgrinders underestimated the bad kids. they don’t know how real adventuring parties are fluid and communicative. they don’t realize that they’ve actually worked for their success, and that it wasn’t just handed to them. they’re so jealous of the bad kids that they’re blind to their genuine strength.
“My… wonderful. absolutely reckless. unhinged. violent. wild. untameable. Bad. Kids” — the collective and simultaneous sob of hundreds of thousands of dropout subscribers quakes the earth — “Did we get that one? Great.”
thinking about how both kristen and buddy died so easily. how they were treated as disposable sacrifices by both their church and their god and their community. thinking about "helio wouldn't have let that happen" and thinking about kristen dying on the first day of school despite being the chosen one. thinking about how the religious conservatives are always the first to cry "think of the children!" and then being the ones to harm their children the most in the end.
Buddy Dawn you deserved an oddball group of friends that would free you from the echo chamber of your religion, and all you got were four dogs, an emo gnome, a bitch elf and whatever Oisin is (read:Nepo Baby).
Kristen is losing fellow clerics and that kinda hurts me.
the karmic retribution though that in killing their cleric, the rat grinders immediately go pass/fail and may have to take the last standard themselves. how poetic. how right would it be when kristen (because of course she will) volunteers to be the cleric on standby, as buddy was for them
shoutout to the editing team for the moment right after buddy’s throat is slit. i think we all needed that moment to stare into our own faces in that black screen and reflect.
i didn’t think it was possible to experience all five stages of grief 3 times in a row in a matter of about 10 seconds but the visceral reaction my body had from kipperlilly showing up to buddy dawn laying dead on the colosseum ledge sure proved me wrong
i'm so fucked up by buddy dawn oh my god, dying by his party members blade, kristen immediately trying everything she could to revive him, kristen who has been there herself, kristen who has died and seen the same god buddy will see, kristen didn't even hesitate to try to save him
oh my god i need them to have a very long deep conversation about religion
Ruben Voted to change the party name because he knew it would piss kipperlilly off
vs
Fabian offered a truce and made up with his (LEGALLY AND FINANCIALLY RECOGNIZED) nemesis so his friend could go one a date without it being weird, Kristin didn’t even ask him to do it.
It’s not that the Ratgrinders don’t know eachother, they know eachother. They just don’t like these people they know so well.
The bad kids know eachother and like love the people they’ve gotten to know. They have allowed themselves to be changed by one another, to become better for eachother.
The ratgrinders will unprompted find ways to slight eachother, get some sort of advantage over their party members.
The Bad Kids don’t have to ask eachother to be caring. They would lower themselves so they don’t block the others from view.
Hot take: if they had been even a little bit more involved in s1, the Thistlesprings would have been good people to take in Kristen!
They're open in a way that directly contradicts everything her parents were against, including about sex and such! She would have actually had adults in the home that she would be able to talk to about it! Also, they're really dedicated and I think would so a better job of checking up with her! Not that Jawbone and Sandra Lynn are doing a bad job, they're just super outnumbered as things are! The Thistlesprings are less busy! Plus I think it's be cute for her and Gorgug to get more screen time together (especially when you consider that he's the first person she talked to in Freshman year idk I think that's nice).
To add to the bit of it all, it would make Kristen and Gorgug siblings to further cement the whole they're-slowly-becoming-one-big-family thing
