What made you decide on the word Shayde?

I really love questions like this because I get to tell y'all how my brain just does stuff. I literally just made it up on the spot when I needed the word for a race of kinda tiefling-like and shadowy demony creatures, googled it to make sure it wasn't a thing and was like "perfect, all done." And that's the same for Firde.

My brain is just a magical hat that I shake around and pick random stuff out of, then I give it meaning if I like it :3

Though I have a lot of experience creating fantasy stuff for my homebrew dnd stuff I did as a teenager and I've been writing fictional stories since I could write, it's like a fun reflex, coming up with stuff like this.

Did the main characters mom know our other parent was a Shayde or did she find out after ? Are there ways for Shayde like our other parent to disguise themselves and appear more like a firde ? ( if I'm remembering correctly that's the name for mortals or at least humans in this setting)

Great question! I won't be able to answer the main point because it will come up in the story BUT!

Born Shayde can change how they look with Void magic, so yes, the type of Shayde that MCs papa is could totally appear like a normal Firde if they understood how their magic worked well enough to weave the spell.

Still here doing stuff! Been working on writing, getting a lot better at descriptive writing which is such a weak point of mine.

I have a lot of wonderful ideas to implement in my story when my health improves, but for now, I'm taking it slow, easy, making sure I'm taking good care of myself. Important stuff!

My soul is hurting for Aevan, he makes me think of my brother. Mc digging his grave, kissing his forehead and trying desperately to bring him back? like mc I was naive, I thought oh, our brother is back but ??? I'll go back to my bed and cry again.

I'm really pleased that this scene was so emotional, I wanted people to feel how MC feels in that situation, the pain, the loss, the hope crushed and especially how special Aevan is to MC.

It was hard to write because I was so enthralled in the emotions and it made me miss my own brothers.

Sounds like a scary world to live but also great to go on adventures as long as you don't end as dinner lol. The voidsomething are like demons? and the ethereal like angels?

Lol, very true! Incidents mostly happen where the void is thinner. And primordial/denser forests. Sometimes closer to settlements if the guards aren't catching them.

But no, Shayde and Ethereal Shayde are more similar and called demons by the more theocratic countries. Ethereal Shayde are amorphous beings that can change their form, and who embody specific emotions and inhabit the void before being "born". Shayde are a race of people populous in Zethuun which is a world way past the void, often looking more demonesque with wings/horns etc. lots of variation.

There are no angel like beings in this world, only gods that may or may not be absent.

Other creatures who inhabit the void are more eldritch and relatively unknown to most people.

Which races exist in the world of The Night That Feeds?

I haven't got everything completely sorted but so far here's races +++

Firde, Shayde, normal and abnormal animals, Ethereal Shayde, Voidlings, Voidal Titans.

Might throw in some good ol vamps and stuff. Certain monsters exist like banshees but aren't always women and are typically created when a dying soul loses track of their journey through the void into what lies beyond and has endured madness because they became lost. Other than-- Wraiths, ghouls, ghosts, revenants, other undead, etc. probs more and stuff, sylvans and creepy and cool naturey things.

They're in line with what normal citizens would call 'necromancer', what that actually means for the MC... Well you'll have to wait to find out in game!
