hopeless time loop. the way out isn’t to save everyone. the way out isn’t to save even one person. the way out isn’t to change anything. the way out is accepting how it happened the first time is how it always will be. that’s how you acted, that’s how they acted, that’s how you would have acted every time if you weren’t given the curse of hindsight. the way out is accepting you can’t fix the past; you can only forgive yourself for it.
Hey shout out to every custodial/sanitation worker taking out and cleaning up literal hot garbage so that the rest of us can go about our summer days like it doesn’t exist
Hong Lu and Sinclair getting the Blubbering Toad E.G.O makes me sooo sad because the toad is inspired by a Korean children's story about why frogs cry in the rain told as a moral lesson about respecting and listening to your parents.
Growing up the little frog disobeys time and time again when his mother tells him to do something, and soon he grows up, still disrespectful and never doing what his mother asks. Eventually she grows old and weak and asks that he buries her body on the riverside - hoping he will disobey as he always has and instead bury her on the mountain. But after his mother passes he finally decides to be a good son and listens to her, so he buried her on the river like she asked, despite his worries about what would happen when it rains. And so he cries and cries every time it rains hoping that it will not wash her grave away.
The two Sinners are both so deeply entangled in family obedience and failing to be a good son or trying desperately to become one. The constant mourning and grief expressed in the Abnormality, crying out and alone, with the right answer being to just sit by it and let it cry it out... Sinclair's dead family and Hong Lu's complicated relationship with his family... It all ties in so well for the two of them
Fun fact from the Jonathan Frakes commentary on "First Contact":
That is not Alice Krige's hand, which is why it looks so freakishly large. She only had her makeup done from her shoulders up for this day of filming so they got one of the other Borg drones and had him kneel out of shot then reach up and seductively stroke Patrick Stewart's face.
you absolutely should not read dunmesh for the yaoi, you will be disappointed. dont read it for the yuri either, i did and was sorely disappointed. read it because you have autism and you will be obsessed with this intricate and beautiful world and story and the sincere and complex picture of living with autism and food and class and above all desires, the ones we repress the ones we overindulge the ones that hurt us and the ones no one will allow us to fill
