I am no longer dead!
The exam i've been studying for is OVER! (I hopefully passed, but I can't say yet)
I can finally start cooking again

I'm still studying a lot and I don't feel particularly inspired, but I managed to make something
I just need to finish an arm, and then I'll post it. It's nothing mindblowing but it's important for the future of the AU

Character progression
I'm kinda convinced that once we manage to decide what happened before Pink's "shattering" me might be able to simply... figure out the rest along the way (provided, of course, that we know in which direction to take the characters)

I'VE SOLVED MOTHER OF PEARL
Her design now works, due to two very important changes. She's also way easier to draw.
Also we were studying Cephalopods last week, and our professor showed us what the shell of a nautilus looks like, and guess what it's made of? Yeah, the universe sent me a signal.
I also found out mother of pearl is made of Aragonite crystals, which sounds cool, so that could potentially be the actual name of the fusion. Who knows...

The biggest challenge right now is simplifying the design of certain characters.
When I did stuff with no intention of making a comic, I added everything to the mix knowing that I would draw that character once and then get bored of them.

Even though we are far from done with the timeline, we are getting close to having enough material for a "first season", which would hypothetically be published as short comics and/or written chapters depending on the amount of inspiration.

I'm experimenting. It's probably just attachment talking (and the fact that I spent so much time on this drawing) but I don't think it's that bad. The biggest problem is her face, which I'm working on. I'm still drawing a sketch to see if there are small elements I want to change (and to use it as a model sheet, even though I already drew a simplified Madreperla a year ago).
You know what? I'm gonna post it.
I've made some progress with the timeline, but I kinda have Post Completion Depression (I hyperfocused on Variscite, and now that she's done I don't know what to do). So I'm gonna try something different

This is gonna be especially hard because, as I said before, I've had her design in my head for years and I need to change it. It's not that I've never been able to draw her, it's just that her design is bad yet I got attached to it.
I've made some progress with the timeline, but I kinda have Post Completion Depression (I hyperfocused on Variscite, and now that she's done I don't know what to do). So I'm gonna try something different

Currently rewatching Season 4 of New Who instead of writing the timeline for my Steven Universe AU

Quick Centi doodle
To remind myself that I don't need to trace anymore, which is also a confidence boost.

I'm rewatching SU with Brian and a friend (who may eventually join the AU), and I want Centi to be more important.
So... Steven's relationship with corrupted gems will be different because he heals gems differently

"I'm even prouder of this because, in terms of composition, coloring and lighting, it's very similar to my unreleased Mother of Pearl drawing. The problem with that drawing is that I started it with too much ambition and too little skill. I grew attached to some of the first shapes I drew despite them not being proportioned correctly, and that skrewed me over when I tried to make everything else. Who knows, maybe now I'll start Mother of Pearl from skratch and actually finish it?"
Me under the Variscite post
I'm happy to say that I'm currently Mother-of-Pearling from scratch, and it's working.

A sketch made in minutes vs the corpse I kept trying to revive for years because "It took me such a long time to finish her hair, I could never scrap them..."
Yeah, this is honestly such a big boost in confidence. I hope to stay productive for a bit before inevitably falling back into my usual abyss

Name: Variscite
Pronouns: any, with no preference
Variscite is the fusion between Peridot and Steven, who get along surprisingly well and have a lot in common. Her design is inspired partially by the Salmon Run worker outfit from Splatoon 3. Their personality is what motivated me, they're so fun to imagine: think Peridot when she was a villain and acted like a Team Rocket member, but actually powerful. He's extremely curious and, like a stereotypical mad scientist, will hyperfocus on his current interest and ignore everything else. However they will tone it back if Pearl, Spinel or Greg start complaining.
They have visible ears. Because as I drew, I started to like the idea of them more than finding a way to cover them.
They have four eyes: Peridot's eyes are on the visor, which is not transparent, while Steven's eyes are behind it, and are normally unseen.
Fun fact, they basically didn't exist three weeks ago. Their main personality trait was originally going to be given to a fusion between Steven and a human OC (created when I cared way more about the human side of the story); then I realized how perfect it was for a Peridot fusion, and I don't need an OC for something a canon character can do.
Like I said yesterday, "It's been so long since the last time I ACTUALLY finished what I started in less than a month. I even like the result, which is rare. I'm also proud because I barely traced anything. It's like sometimes I remember how to draw, but only occasionally (sad)".
I'm even prouder of this because, in terms of composition, coloring and lighting, it's very similar to my unreleased Mother of Pearl drawing. The problem with that drawing is that I started it with too much ambition and too little skill. I grew attached to some of the first shapes I drew despite them not being proportioned correctly, and that skrewed me over when I tried to make everything else. Who knows, maybe now I'll start Mother of Pearl from skratch and actually finish it?
(also this is unintentionally the 200th post)
