The Voices return with On y va
From their emergence out of Cardiff, Wales, in 2003, The Voices have quietly gone about their business, releasing fine records along the way. Chief amongst them was the album ‘Death Of A Lover’s Song’, which arrived in 2009, with a reissue on vinyl in 2020. Prior to that album’s re-release, they issued the album ‘We Just Want To Be Ourselves‘, with it being described as their penultimate album.…

Keeley shines on her debut appearance in Birmingham
Keeley left us ‘Floating Above Everything Else’ after an exhilarating set at the Sunflower Lounge on Sunday evening. Coming just a couple of weeks after the exceptional NewDad show at the O2 Institute, I was at the Sunflower Lounge in Birmingham to see another Irish performer, as Keeley Moss, who performs under her first name, took to the stage for her debut gig in the city. Support came from…

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did… In another year of awesome music it was again a difficult decision to choose a single track for the number one spot, until the track which made it to the top spot arrived, and just blew me away… The Churchhill Garden –…

93 Million Miles From The Sun have Buried Dreams to reawaken...
What bothers you and why? As we enter the last throes of the year, where goodwill to all is the abiding feeling, it is a delight to have new music from those fine purveyors of noisy, scorching shoegaze 93 Million Miles From The Sun. Aptly kicking things off with the title track ‘Buried Dreams‘, surging in like water erupting from a burst dam, a torrent of noise blistering the ears before the…

We're on a 'Freefall Into Heaven' with Callière
A project that began way back in 1984 by Andrew Rose and revived in 2021. Andrew is familiar with many people as the man behind the mixing desk at his Pristine Audio studio, where he masters the albums from a whole host of bands, across the shoegaze spectrum. Since 2022, Callière have released a number of singles, including ‘Moonrising‘, ‘Barcelona‘ and most recent release ‘Hollow‘. Thus,…

Along with his day job as guitars and vocals in 93 Million Miles From The Sun, one of Doncaster’s finest sons Nick Noble, is also a member of Leeds fourpiece Last Tourist, who infuse their mutual love of Post-punk and shoegaze to produce a haunting melody of synth and guitar washes, driven by danceable drum rhythms. Setting things off is the crashing blaze of ‘Riding Seas‘, a statement of intent…

Slow Crush bring the beautiful noise to The Flapper and Firkin
On Tuesday evening, I took the opportunity to venture forth upon a venue I had not stepped through the doors of for a number of years, due mainly to the pandemic, but also as the pub was closed and looking likely to be sold to developers to build luxury flats on the site. Thankfully, due to a committed campaign to save the Flapper, enough pressure was put on the planning committee for them to…

Affray is back to put us under a 'Curfew"
After their excellent ‘EMDR‘ album of last year, which received airplay on BBC Introducing, comes a new Affray release, entitled ‘Curfew‘, which begins with a spoken voice sample, which could be considered threatening and yet concerned, then shivers of electronic pulses, like sprinkled glass shards, sliver and cut a swathe right to the bone, before the beat kicks in and we are racing through the…

In lieu of being at The Mill here in Birmingham to see these tonight, I have decided to enjoy The Go! Team and their 'Get Up Sequences Part One' album here at home. I saw these several years ago, in Wolverhampton, at the Wulfrun Hall, and it was absolutely incredible, a sparkling fuzzbomb from start to finish, with Ninja doing cartwheels, backflip somersaults and handstands at regular intervals. I remember the support band, Smoosh, two girls, one on guitar, the other on an electric organ, from the US, barely into their teens, yet so composed and very talented young ladies. Dont think they're still performing, but they were really impressive. This is the 6th album (in two parts...) from the band, released in 2021 on the Memphis Industries label. Part 2 was released last year. #TheGoTeam #GetUpSequencespartone #MemphisIndustriesRecords #IanParton #Ninja #SamDook #SimoneOdaranile #AdamZnaide #NiadzeMuzira #colouredvinyl (at Kings Norton, Birmingham, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpn9PLjo3Mg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

This is the new album from Danish synthpop five piece Lowly, 'Keep Up The Good Work', released on the Bella Union label. The third album from the band, an elegant, glacial yet warm album, minimal and laid back, perhaps more restrained, yet still glistening tones that shimmer and shine. #Lowly #KeepUpTheGoodWork #Danishband #BellaUnionRecords #synthpop #postpunk #darkwave #whitevinyl #NannaSchannong #KasperStaub #ThomasLund #SoffieViemose #SteffenLundtoft #noisepop https://www.instagram.com/p/CpTduOsICVS/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
