LET'S GO! I'll toast to your success!
When Stars Ignite - Update
It's been almost a year after @alyslaskeywriter and I sat on my sofa with our basil sangria and jokingly said "What if we reopened that Rockstar project...?"
Historically, I should have known that our "What if..."s usually end up in time and energy-consuming endeavours. Also, there's no way in hell I pass one of them so now - not quite a year - I am happy to report that...
Draft 1 of the When Stars Ignite-Rewrite is finished!!
There's still tons of changes to be made, and things to adapt, and tweaked, and cut (esp that lol) but I'm so happy I could cry right now.
It's too early in the day to get myself a cherry margarita (Jaz would disagree) but... here's to the rockstars.
Rock 'n' roll. Deal with it.

also tagging @kc-the-writer and @lyatudor bc duh. You guys are the greatest cheerleaders ever.

🛒💖🤩 for the ask game, please! It is so good to see you're writing!
🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.
I'm always fond of the found family trope, there's just something appealing about a group of misfits finding a place with each other. I'm also pretty fond of the idea of it always being darkest before dawn, it tends to lead to great payoff.
For themes and other feels, I like the idea of characters having hope and enjoying themselves no matter the circumstances. To me it shows a certain strength of character but also humanises them in a way.
💖 What made you start writing?
Curiosity, I began reading fanfic in secondary school, thought how cool it was that people could right such amazing stories and I wanted to give it a go myself.
🤩 Who is your favorite character to write?
I've already said David but if I needed a close second it would be Reuben. As a guy who loves animals, researching what his future career as a dragonologist would entail is simply fascinating.

🤡😈🤲 for the ask please 💙
Thanks for the ask!
🤡 What's a line, scene, or exchange you've written that made you laugh?
One of my earlier works in the HPHM fandom involved David taking Judith Harris (@judediangelo75) around Liverpool, then showing her to the entrance to Under Mersey. What David neglects to tell her is that this passage opens up by a password that essentially sends you down a massive slide, Judith was not happy 😂
😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?
I did indeed used to give out bad cliffhangers like sweets when I first started writing, it was funny to watch reactions 😂
🤲 Would you please share a snippet of a wip?
Tbh, I should try and continue with David's story, so here's part of what I wrote for that:
Jacob had always written a letter home in previous years, once every few days. Early in to the year, it became once a week, then once every few weeks until finally, communication had ceased entirely.
David was no fool, the tension in the house that final Christmas and New Year had been so thick it could have been cut with a knife, not even the season of goodwill could disguise the boiling point that was just ready to burst. Shortly after the new term began, Jacob disappeared, and David’s troubles truly began.

😅 What's a story or scene you've created that you're a smidge embarrassed exists?
I still can't believe I've written smut, I know they're considered good but it's still surprising to me 😂
🛠What tools/programs/apps do you use to write?
Microsoft Word is my go to for writing on, though I did used to physically write stuff down on paper before working up the courage to post stuff online.
❌ What's a trope you will never write?
Tbh, love triangles aren't my thing.

For the emoji ask can I please have: 💋😈💖🤩 and 🤲 please
💋 First kiss fics. Love em or hate em?
I'm pretty sure I wrote a Willowsnyde one once upon a time and... I don't think it was great. So I'll say when written well they can be great but writing them? Going to have to pass 😂
😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?
I did once write a fic where I adjusted a canon event so a particular character would be around at the start of the story. However this event also involved the near death of one character caused by another who temporarily lost control of their abilities.
This revelation however came at the end of a chapter as a cliffhanger, the following chapter would reveal exactly what happened 😂
💖 What made you start writing?
Honestly? It was curiosity more than anything else, I'd just heard about fanfiction, found a site to read it on and thought, "Hey I could give this a go." Wasn't really expecting much but apparently people started liking my stories and the rest, as they say, is history.
🤩 Who is your favorite character to write?
Got to go with my OG boy David, mainly because I've written for him the most out of all of my other characters.
🤲 Would you please share a snippet of a wip?
This one is also for @lifeofkaze because this one is from The Willowsrath one shot I'm still working on (and will probably be out next week):
David felt his stomach lurch and his world spin as he grasped the portkey that took on the appearance of a small harpy statuette. Replacing the cool, crisp air of the moors for the colder air of the seaside. He checked the slip of paper Erika had given him, studying the address carefully.
For a small town getting around on foot was simple, and with directions from some kindly locals, finding the address was fairly easy. Knocking heavily on the dark, wooden door with the rhythm of one of the Harpy’s chants, exactly as the note had also instructed him. He waited a moment as footsteps sounded just behind it, the door’s locks clicked, opening up wide to reveal Erika oddly still clad in her team’s uniform.
“David!” She greeted, beaming enthusiastically, and pulling him into a hug, David swearing for a moment that he caught the smell of champagne as she did so.
“Sorry for ignoring your question before, Merlin knows what the other girls would start saying if we got into a friendly chat. But I’m doing alright for myself as you can see.” David would agree with her on that, it was a muggle cottage, though apparently fitted to more modern standards, a radiator filling up the cozy interior with hot air and just the faintest whiff of lavender hung in the air. It was a relief as Erika banished the last remnants of the cold evening by shutting the door.

The Tumblr raccoons that control the ✌️ "algorithm" ✌️ have suggested a few minor accounts to me recently. I've noticed a few that contain some very unsafe details, so I thought I'd share some internet safety tips from your local wine auntie. Other wine aunties and uncles, feel free to add on:
We often only think of really big details when it comes to internet safety like:
Government ID numbers
Full home address
First and last name
But there's more to safety than just that. There are things called P.I.I. - personally identifiable information. These are things that, in any combination, someone could use to find you in real life. Things like:
Birthday
Age
General location (especially if you're from a small country)
Height
Weight
First name
School
There are other things that, in combination with the above, can put you in real danger:
Appearance (glasses, body shape, hair color, eye color)
Religion
Occupation
Grade
Parents' occupations
Living situation
Your exact age and month/date of your birthday (that tells everyone the exact year you were born)
Mental health diagnoses
Disabilities
And please don't forget that your IP is relatively easy to track. Even anon messages can have their IP's tracked (*finger wag to the people who send hate anons*).
All of these things can be used to find you or your loved ones in real life.
And even if someone doesn't want to find you physically, there are people who can and will harm you through a digital platform. There are people who look for exact traits that you might have because they believe they make you vulnerable and that you are easy prey.
Do not be mistaken in believing that only adults prey on children online. There are youth predators as well.
I'm not saying you can't share yourself or that you should be scared of everyone and everything. Being in community with each other is natural and good! But you need to be intentional and think hard about the combination of details you share about yourself. Who knows what about you and how readily available that information is.
As an adult, I suggest:
Talking to a trusted adult from real life. (A teacher, your parents, an auntie, or uncle (older siblings are dubious, tbh. They don't always know what's best for you.)) Get them to look at your blog and help you take down anything that is a danger to you or your loved ones.
I think I speak for every adult here when I say:
We want you to be safe and to have fun. We care what happens to you. But we are very limited in our ability to protect you from other adults in online spaces. Most of the time, we can't.
Good luck, stay safe, and happy creating!

hey guys so apparently this is a thing a lot of people don't realise but like. if you have had writer's block/ art block for like. six months. a year. two years. that's maybe not a block. that's maybe depression. and you should maybe look into treating the source of the problem instead of just beating yourself up for not being able to write/draw. be kind to yourself and know that your struggle to create isn't based in laziness or a lack of skill or talent.
