I love Neloth and Teldryn so much! But for some reason, despite loving their soft moments, them getting into arguments makes me go all over the place! Maybe couples arguing is a guilty pleasure that I never noticed until recently, lol.

No I totally feel you. I think there's something cathartic about it. I am the most anti-argument conflict avoidant mf in real life. But narrative conflict is fun and it can be exciting in a way that would absolutely suck irl.

Teldryn (the way I write him in my stories at least) also prefers to smooth things over as quickly as possible, so he's strugglin rn.

Honestly I don't believe Neloth has any self esteem at all. Powerful people don't need to tell you they're powerful and Neloth walks around proclaiming he is a master wizard every five minutes. If we are to believe he doesn't care what others think then who is he really trying to convince? Himself.

In most circumstances I'd agree with you, but a part of me wonders how true that actually is re: powerful people don't have to tell you they're powerful.

What have the most powerful people throughout history done? Made sure everyone knew just how fucking powerful they were! Commissioned paintings of themselves, statues... CASTLES. Built monuments and done the most outlandish shit just to flaunt how incredibly powerful they are. Is there always a knot self-consciousness at the root of it? Probably.

The way I write Neloth, he definitely has that nagging self-doubt that plagues almost anyone, but it's a comparatively very quiet voice in the back of his mind. And usually he's able to wave it away with logic and experimentation.

I don't think he's trying to prove he's powerful to you by saying it over and over. I think he just likes the sound of his own voice.
