Not every film requires the bending of time and space. However, even as he ends up a regular run-of-the-mill James Bond-ish thriller, Christopher Nolan can not withstand the temptation.   One of them even goes on to add, "Just feel it." However, even that is difficult to do when the narrative (written by Nolan) is trotting out such an assembly line of ordinaries -- the damsel in distress who is British so Lord's daughter and looks every inch of it (though there aren't many inches on the spindly thin and wasted Debicki); the Russian oligarch from nowhere who will prove to have a"Plutonium 241" links and madman ambitions (Branagh, chewing as standard to the role); along with a typical American/CIA bloke (Washington, lacking the charm to make it worthwhile) who'll save the planet with some"cowboy shit."

Equipped with only one word - Tenet - and fighting for the survival of the whole Earth, the Protagonist (John David Washington) journeys through a twilight world of global espionage on a mission that could unfold in something past real-time—not time traveling.

Inversion "Tenet" wastes no time, falling viewers to an attack on Kyiv's symphony operation and hardly allowing anybody to become oriented.   Our hero is caught from the enemy, tortured, and also takes a cyanide capsule, as he was ordered to do in training.  He resides, and his allegiance to the system and his orders contributes to the promotion of sorts. This top-secret mission involves a new technology that can rewrite human history.

For transparency's sake, it feels important to say that this film was screened for the local press in Chicago with extreme precautions that won't be in place for most ticket buyers for weeks, including 1% capacity of a massive, sanitized theatre first thing in the morning.  The purpose of this review is not to encourage or discourage anyone from attending a theatrical screening at this particular moment.

It's an investigation of the work itself for posterity. From precisely what is where Tenet (note the palindrome of this name ) takes its biggest tumble, tying itself up in many knots going forwards-backward, backward-forwards that it has to mention"joining up of loose ends" more than once.  From what a scientist (another light and thin presence in the form of Clemence Poesy) pops up briefly to explain, in the future, a technology that"inverts that the entropy of stuff," a sort of"inverse radiation from nuclear fission," has been invented.  It has been turning up in the shape of bullets, for example, which aren't fired but seized back once you pull the trigger.

Tenet's conceit is that this, somehow (don't ask how), makes the vicious monster who is manipulating the past by coming back in the future more dangerous for humanity's existence than"a nuclear disaster."  

Tenet has come to India.  Over three months since its global premiere, Christopher Nolan's most up-to-date film will finally roll to Indian cinemas this week.  Thank you, COVID-19.

The IMAX experience is only available in English, though. Tenet is much more unique for Nolan lovers in India since it had been shot in India and stars a few veteran Indian celebrities.  But due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, we have been unable to see what Nolan does with Mumbai.  And now, it is a gamble.
