Digital Disruption and Business Models | Digital Transformation | techRAI by techARC
Digital Transformation is removing demarcations of traditional view of business and opening cross-sectoral competition which is being undermined by the leadership. There is no merit in me getting into the evaluation of process of money management sector after sector where we are seeing the levels of stress rising leading to collapse of some of the anchor companies within. With Digital Transformation the disruption is not only at the customer facing layer, which we are overemphasising many a times. Digital Transformation is creating much more disruption within the fundamentals of a business which is being ignored and not given due attention. This inward disruption needs a lot more serious attention which will determine the continuity of the businesses as well as the sectors. Digital Transformation is growingly creating Monopolistic markets. It is killing Monopoly, Oligopoly as well as the Perfect Competition forms of market. Leaders across the value chain – regulators, government, business and enablers, are ignoring this disruptive power of Digital. This is resulting in their limited myopic view of their business prospects. Sector after sector, the dynamics of business competition are changing. We are more concerned about the outer impact of digital transformation or at best look at the human-organisation aspects which may impact people management within organisations. What we are not looking with a depth is how the fundamentals of business are getting changed. Looking for regular techARC updates?              Technology Research Analytics Insights - techARC - Part 2
Smartphones are the default device of interface between users and the digital ecosystem. They can play a pivotal role in making the digital world trustworthy. Digital world is divided between fake and the genuine. Brands (advertisers) want to spend with the angels in the ecosystem and end up spending on a mixed bag of angels and the evils. Irrespective of the reputation and the stature of the channel / medium through which the brands spend, there is always an element of suspicion as spending on digital is like getting into a dark tunnel. Advertising measurement has always been an issue and there is no perfect solution to the problem. Be it print, radio, TV or now digital, everything has a loophole and rogue elements in the system exploit this. There are some 3rd party measurements used about media reach like circulation, readership, viewership, etc., but most of the methods are sample based which are susceptible to inadvertent as well as deliberate errors. Smartphones are becoming the default device of interface between a user and the digital ecosystem. This places the Smartphone brands at a commanding position who can play a pivotal role in cleaning the system and making the space trustworthy. In any country, including India, over 90% of the Internet users access it through a Smartphone. There are two major issues that can be solved by a Smartphone brand, and if they do it as a consortium, it will solve the problem across. Since the ads are served over a Smartphone, these brands can verify for advertisers if the ads claimed to be served to a particular user have been actually served and viewed / clicked by a genuine user or otherwise. The second area they can clean is of influencers / micro-influencers. A lot among them jack up their social media engagement using bots and other means with the intent of charging advertisers heavy fee to endorse their products or services. The channel account is configured on the Smartphone of the influencer / micro-influencer and this is where the Smartphone brands can bring value for advertisers by verifying the actual human followers.                                    Read More...https://techrai.com/page/2/

New role of a CIO Insights Officer | techRAI by techARC
Digital assets are creating insights at every stage redefining the role of CIOs. Over the years CIO or Chief Information Officer has been primarily playing the role of deciding about technology – infrastructure, assets, architecture, etc.  Owing to this orientation the procurement avatar of a CIO has overshadowed the intrinsic power of the role that CIO could actually play in an organisation. The cost centre orientation of a CIO is over now.  Companies will no longer appreciate the value CIO brings in through savings and negotiating hard than the business value of analytics that could be driven. Businesses are increasingly becoming customer facing with the rapid adoption of digital technologies.  Take example of any service aggregator.  It is actually a B2B market place where a platform brings all the channel players / suppliers together.  But the way these have evolved and been presented through very engaging UX and UI, all of them look like B2C businesses.  This is the way forward.  Digital is crushing the traditional distribution of services and products.  Customers are coming very close to businesses.  There are platforms of engagement like social media as well as platforms of transaction like marketplaces.                             Read More...https://techrai.com/page/2/

Telecom rescuing Economy Covid-19 WFH | techRAI by techARC
Telecom India is in its most difficult time in the silver jubilee year of Mobility services. But continues to do its yeoman’s service. The health outbreak situation due to rising spread of Covid-19 has resulted in two major challenges. First and most critical is the challenge of saving lives of people which is growing every hour. That is a public health issue and governments across are tackling to minimise the impact in terms of spread as well as fatalities. The other major challenge is of it resulting in the collapse / downsizing of economies. It is not just the matter of businesses suffering losses. It is more significant about ensuring critical services and operations as well as saving jobs of millions. Gone are the days when businesses would have the resilience to have adequate working capital to run operations for several quarters. These days most of the businesses will face financial issues within a quarter to six months period. This will happen across sectors resulting in loss of jobs, hence livelihood. It will be difficult for displaced workforce to look for alternative jobs in such times. Things have changed dramatically over the past 5 years. Today, a lot of businesses are able to strike a balance between ensuring well being of the staff by letting them distance socially; yet ensure business continuity. There are several factors that are allowing this flexibility. But the two key achievements in the past 5 years in India are ‘cloudification’ of IT infrastructure & applications and wireless broadband through 4G. As a result, today millions if not all of people are able to work from home reducing the risk as well as continue their work. Among these two enablements of cloud and 4G, it is infact 4G which has helped adoption of cloud based apps and services as almost all of them would need a broadband connectivity to be used. India has mere 19 million fixed line broadband users which includes enterprises and offices. The home fixed line broadband users is estimated to be around 16.5-17 million. Contrary to this we have over 640 million mobile broadband users accessing it through a 4G Smartphone / Dongle and other such devices. This base achieved through 4G networks is what is making work from home possible for India at the moment.                                  Read More...https://techrai.com/page/2/

Intel Loihi Neuromorphic Chip | techRAI by techARC
The Neuromorphic Chip successfully demonstrated the ability to learn and recognise hazardous chemicals. So far the computing capabilities of processors have stayed restricted within the boundaries of processing text, image, video and sound inputs to get the desired results. These have made a lot many devices capable of having their own ‘brain’ to calculate and compute results for us. Correlating with the human sensory powers, the computers or any smart devices available so far are capable of seeing, hearing and feeling the touch, though in limited capacities. The capability of computers to smell and taste has been missing so far. However, with the recent successful demonstration by Intel’s Loihi – the Neuromorphic research chip, to learn and recognise hazardous chemicals is a great achievement in the world of computing. This will change the way computers are used and there will be several many use cases added to the capabilities of computers and other smart devices. This capability addition to the computing ecosystem could be a game changer especially as we move towards Industry 4.0 and Smart City living. That is because smell is one of the first alarms of any type of hazard or leak which can result in a catastrophe. Even combating with pollution, smell of the air can give early indications about the quality of the air getting worse. The rapid response teams as well as automated procedures can be instantaneously invoked without dependence on any human intervention. As we immerse further in Smart world, the technology needs more of ‘Sense Computing’. This is where solutions like Intel’s Loihi will have a greater role to play. The use cases are immense from instant response to emergencies like gas leaks, bio-hazards and other situations where odours indicate an imminent disaster. The other important use case of the capabilities of Loihi, though would require to show the ability to sense other forms of odours as well, is in the food, medicines and other such domains where its important to keep a track of the freshness as well as usability of such perishable items. So far several other techniques have been used to read the status of such perishable items, but they may not be as effective as odour which is the natural ‘alarm’ to identify any such change in the properties to indicate the usability of such products.                           Read More...https://techrai.com/page/2/

Nokia 8.3 5G Global Smartphone | techRAI by techARC
The 5G Smartphone is a peculiar proposition. You may not want to offer, yet you can’t stay away from it. Balancing the two makes a business case. HMD Global, the home of new Nokia, recently launched 3 Smartphones and a roaming data service. There are some interesting things to talk about this portfolio. But, today I would like to restrict about Nokia 8.3, its first 5G Smartphone. Globally there are 26 countries where 5G is commercially available, though not with 100% geographic coverage. These are using various NR bands with NSA (non stand alone) deployments. With this early stage commercial availability, the addressable market of 5G Smartphones will give any OEM sustainable volumes if it is able to service as much of it as possible. By supporting a wide continuum of 5G NR band – 600MHz to 3.8GHz, Nokia has played it smart to make 8.3 Smartphone compatible with almost every 5G network which is live or is about to go live. This is very important move for several markets where operator bundling works and the early markets of 5G are the ones where devices are sold along with a subscription plan. This way Nokia 8.3 becomes ready to market device for several operators. The other side benefit of this proposition could be targeting frequent travellers, essentially for business purposes. These users could latch on 5G wherever available. The device anyways works on 4G as well. Now this is for Global and Future use. There is still limited audience for 5G specifically, even globally. So, what has Nokia 8.3 to offer for present users even in countries like India? Nokia 8.3 allows record videos in log format, which is very close to raw video recording in terms of utility. Though many argue raw and log are same, however a raw video cannot be seen on a display while raw video or image is viewable on the display without any processing. During the launch, in fact Nokia did highlight on log video capability as well. This is something good as I am fatigued of hearing about photos. Doesn’t make sense that we keep on talking too much about photos when its time for videos and immersive content. Agreed we are still obsessed with pictures, but that shouldn’t be a talking point anymore, at least an anchoring feature.                                 Read More...https://techrai.com/page/2/

Work from Home in Covid-19 Corona Virus | techRAI by techARC
With Covid-19 outbreak globally, as well as precautionary lockdown in 75 districts in India, many companies will go for work from home today. Here are some tips to stay productive based out of my experience of over 2 years.
These are challenging times. While to keep ourselves and our dear ones safe from this ‘hyper’ contagious viral infection, we are pushed to work from home. Working from home isn’t easy and one needs to be extremely self disciplined and motivated to keep the performance levels as they should be. Firstly, those of us who are able to work from home, should be thankful that we are in a profession / role which gives us this flexibility. Though digital technologies have made most of the jobs portable, which is why we are able to remain economically active today, there are still many sectors where it is not possible at all. Healthcare, essential services, factories are some examples. This fact should be motivating enough in itself that we are able to work even in these conditions. Experts are pegging this outbreak to remain so for sometime now. It’s not an issue of few days. This means eventually every cog of economy will get impacted. But natural, the work you are doing right now will also get impacted and our casual approach will only worsen the things. In today’s time, except for very few jobs, especially in the government sector, no organisation can guarantee livelihood beyond a certain period. Some sectors like airlines have already announced pay cuts, while in next 3-6 months many others will either follow the suit, eventually even go for job cuts.                            Read More...https://techrai.com/page/2/

AI and minimal lifestyle Smart Home Connected Consumer | techRAI by techARC
The days of owning a few connected devices are over.  Now we want everything potentially connected.  This eventually takes to an era where we will end having owning or possessing so many connected devices and gadgets in our homes. At the same time the Japanese concept of minimalist living is catching up fast among contemporary lifestyles.  This creates a conflicting situation where people would want to live a contemporary lifestyle inspired by Japanese culture, but at the same time do not want to remain left out from the advantages of connectivity that is penetrating through every device and infrastructure in our homes.  So, the intriguing question here would be, “Is a minimalist Smart Home possible?”
Well if we go by the current trends, the demand – desire as well as ability to pay for connected devices is on the rise.  Inspired by the revolution that Smartphones brought in, we want to see connectivity in everything. This means the number of connected devices in a home could grow exponentially.  We want to go for beyond Smartphone connectivity, where we want TV, Refrigerator, Speaker, Camera, Oven, Washing Machine, Lights, Fans, ACs, etc., connected.  The list can go on. AI perhaps has the answer to this.  Barring some of the specific use cases like refrigeration, washing and cooking, most of the connected consumer devices have same building blocks. These are a display screen, speaker, mic, camera and other internal components.  Using AI we could get into an era of converged devices which can transform their usability as per the criteria.  This criteria could be by the hour of the day, by the demographics of the user and other such factors.  The AI on top of such a converged device could tweak the use case basis the need that a user is looking for, from the device.  For instance a Smart TV, Smart Speaker, Sound Bar, Router, Video Door Bell, Network Drive, Video Calling and many other things can go in a single device.  With AI the required hardware could be configured for a particular use case.  Similarly, a Smart panel could be used in the Kitchen which can be used for refrigeration, cooking, water purification and other use cases to minimise the number of gadgets to be stacked in the kitchen.                                     Read More...https://techrai.com/page/2/

Voice collaboration Corona virus work from home | techRAI by techARC
Amazon Alexa and other such platforms must offer voice collaboration skill for teams to collaborate working from home.
With the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, we have all of a sudden got into a digital virtual working environment. The work behaviour has changed and even people having strong reservations about the use of collaboration tools have started using them. Platforms like Zoom, Google Hangouts, Microsoft Teams, Amazon Chime and others are use at full throttle. These are some of the backbone tools enabling productivity as well as giving a touch of personalised connect with the teams, clients and other partners with whom we are conducting business.
However, in many countries especially in India, the connectivity is always a challenge. We don’t get the desired QoS (quality of service) and end up turning off the cameras to save on bandwidth. At times we even send the presentation offline via email and then collaborate. This looks foolish, but thats how it works at times! In fact there are very few cases where screen sharing and/or getting into a video mode is unavoidable. Hence, we don’t mind turning it off and yet get the desired results of the collaboration. So, while the modern collaboration tools have video as their marquee feature, voice collaboration still makes a lot of sense.                                Read More...https://techrai.com/page/2/

Entrepreneurship Ideas to foster Covid-19 Corona Virus | techRAI by techARC
Economy will not be the same once the pandemic is over. We need to proactively create new avenues opening up new opportunities to bring back the momentum.
If we look back into the history, disasters – natural or man-made have flipped the world order including economic frameworks. The Covid-19 challenge is going to be no different. The way we see economy being run will change. Some of it has already started. For instance, we are on a by-pass mode on digital platforms for almost every possible business. When things are normal we usually tend to get busy in making them run and eventually grow. Right now the things are different. It is an abnormal state of affairs. Productivity has already gone down, not just because of work from home, as many first timers are finding it difficult to work in this mode at optimal levels. But, also because there is minimal activity of business overall. There is hardly any discussion around new business going on. It is all about how to deliver what is on the plate.
The other factor around is we all have genuinely extra time. Even if we are doing the same number of meetings, if at all we are, the commute time is a direct saving for all, be it to office or for meetings. On an average in a place like NCR, every person working from home is saving 15-30 hours a week at the moment. Companies will be observing 4-5 weeks of working from home, which means every person will have 60-150 hours available during this period of lockdown.

Digital Turnkey will help businesses in quick turnaround | techRAI by techARC
Digital Transformation is an evolutionary persistent endeavour. What businesses require right now is Digital Turnkey that gets them back rolling at the earliest.
There is no need to highlight the serious repercussions of Covid-19 pandemic on almost everything. If at all we are able to stay active and engaged, its all because of the mass Digital ena blement that has taken place especially over the past 5 years or so. Digital is not new to several businesses. Even the traditionally conservative sectors like FMCG and manufacturing has been fast adopting digital technologies. Some have been trying to understand deep what digital can do for them, but the intent is already there. With the pandemic situation we are in today, the priorities have changed altogether. Rather than looking at customer delight, operational efficiencies and savings on CAPEX, need of the hour is of business continuity and client servicing. This need is not just a fad. It will remain to be so for several quarters from now, if not years. Even, once the clouds of pandemic are over, businesses will want to look for solutions that could help them re-start in as much short period as possible. Digital Transformation conceptually is not meant for a quick turnaround. It is more thoughtful and takes time to implement and result transformation. The objectives are more vision led and strategic in nature.                             Read More...https://techrai.com/

Milagrow HumanTech Floor Robots Covid-19 | techRAI by techARC
When every connected consumer technology market is colouring red, Floor Robots are something people may want to buy.
Many things have changed due to the pandemic situation around. The house maids support system is off for most of the families where maids would otherwise come for specific time periods. It is appreciative of many people having decided to continue paying them even if they are unable to do the job. Some have also been paid in advance in these difficult times. Even if there is spare time with working families and they can take care of the chores, many are not able to cope up. Reasons could range from health reasons to difficulty in managing between office schedule and the jobs to be done at home like cleaning, cooking, etc.
One of the challenge many families are facing is of cleaning the apartment or house. This at a time when everyone is extremely aware of the significance of cleanliness.                                    Read More...https://techrai.com/

Covid-19 impact on Smartphone industry in India Corona Virus | techRAI by techARC
Though supply chain could resume after a short disruption, weakening demand to hit the Smartphone sales prospects in India throughout calendar year 2020.
Covid-19 is an extraordinary situation. There can be no qualitative deterministic measurement of the impact done in this situation. The reason is there are so many uncertainties around and the situation is impacting both the supply and the demand side of the market. Some of the uncertainties include:-
When can supply chain resume in China as well as in India? When can online and offline channel resume in India? Who will buy a smartphone at this moment when the shopping is confined to critical things – groceries and medicines? What will happen to the employment scenario and the overall economic outlook of the country over next couple of quarters? Can we have the new academic session for higher studies in normal mode, which typically sees increase in smartphone sales? Can the festive season revive the market sentiments? Typical there is additional dispensable income by way of bonuses, etc., paid around that period. Will companies have money to pay bonuses? In first instance, will they make profits? Who will still buy a smartphone if the income and economic outlook looks grim? What will be that percentage? Finally, can we expect things to get better towards the end of the year, when experts are fearing comeback of the viral infection? These are some of the major questions that cannot be answered at this juncture, and hence attempting any estimation of the impact in numbers would be injustice with the industry and the OEMs and other players in the value chain. The situation is undoubtedly difficult and every brand will be impacted. Even brands would not be in denial on this. However, attributing a definite number is speculative and would further hurt the sentiments of the entire industry.                                    Read More...https://techrai.com/

Live Streaming leisure content in Covid-19 | techRAI by techARC
Rekhta Foundation and Gizmore recently held two live online performances to spirit up people locked in homes. While we are all contributing our bit to collectively come out of this, brands can play a pivotal role in taking life #BeyondCovid-19.
“Prepare for the worst and hope for the best,” is my favourite phrase I share with my sons. I strongly believe in it as a guiding principle. It gives me the courage to take risks, though with precautions. We are all living in difficult times. But that never means we should give up living. That is perhaps one of the reasons why our social media engagement has gone up. Whether you like or not, the WhatsApp keeps on popping with jokes apart from serious updates and many a times, over information about Covid-19.
Staying positive and keeping the spirits up is very essential in these testing times. Even in general routine, we go for recreation to take a break from our hectic work and other schedules. As we cope up with the present situation we have find more of such opportunities while staying at home. TV and OTT is not the only answer. Books also do help to a certain degree. But hanging out for hobbies, leisure and other interest groups is always soothing.                                      Read More...https://techrai.com/

Smartphone for All in India | Smartphone for Bharat | Corona Virus | techRAI by techARC
The industry with government support has to enable Smartphones for the weaker sections of the society to achieve ‘Smartphone for all’ in next 2 years.
We are a nation with half a billion smartphones! Unfortunately that’s not enough. We need to get almost another half a billion to effectively have everyone on a Smartphone. The biggest impediment in doing so is the cost of the device which makes it unaffordable for the ones who are not owning a smartphone even today.
Things have changed over the past couple of years. Earlier we had two sections not using a Smartphone. One was who couldn’t afford another who were feeling they don’t need it. Over the period the ones, especially elders who were feeling they don’t require a smartphone at all have started finding use cases with the device and have bought a smartphone. These also includes people who were hesitant because they felt a smartphone is fragile compared to a feature-phone. Things are going to be difficult for the smartphone industry like any other industry all through the calendar year 2020. Read our detailed qualitative analysis of the impact of Covid-19 on the Indian smartphone industry. Most of the things that brands had planned or were planning will not work. So we need to work on something more relevant and new.
The Entry segment (sub Rs 5,000) of smartphones has been seeing decline over the past few years. People are either waiting to afford a ‘good’ smartphone in the Basic category (5,001-10,000) or simply don’t switch from a feature-phone. Some did try JioPhone as well, but it’s not been that great a success.

Covid-19 impact on business services delivered digitally | techRAI by techARC
With the procurement behaviours changing and organisations getting used to digital collaboration, services delivered over digital will have to re-evolve.
The typical procurement behaviour over digital platforms has remained confined to discovery stage. Thereafter the process is more or less offline like any other procurement process; similar to buying a product in many cases. Unless it is Anything as a Service (XaaS) model, the scope of engaging for a service over digital is minimal. With the extra-ordinary situation arisen out of Covid-19, the entire business attitude has change. All of a sudden, for business continuity purposes the entire business development process has gone virtual irrespective of whether it’s delivered over a XaaS model or not. This is a big change in the procurement posture. It is, so to say, a double edged sword for agencies and organisations selling their services over digital platforms.                                    Read More...https://techrai.com/

Unified Communication app for communication platforms | Covid-19 impact |techRAI by techARC
We are presently managing nothing less than a command centre with so many medium. A unified communications app is what solves our challenges in managing them.
Otherwise as well, but these days we are all managing nothing less than a command centre individually. A typical person has SMS, Email, Phone Call, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, LinkedIn, Twitter Messages, Telegram, Skype, Microsoft Teams, Zoom and many more platforms. There could be BOTIM and some other apps as well. All these are just for communication. While you may not want to be on all of these platforms, but for one or the other reason you are. Yes, priority does change and not all will be on each of the platforms listed here. But more or less, presence on multiple platforms is a reality today for most of us. You simply can’t get everyone one a single platform. Your connects will have their own preferences and choice, which makes you be available on many platforms.
There are several messages and attachments, etc., which you need to genuinely share with others. At the moment, cross sharing is enabled on most of the platforms, where you can choose which platform to share a particular message or attachment with. But thats not user friendly. What I would like to see a unified communications app, where I could integrate all my inward and outward communication channels. So, I get all my communications in one app. Then it would be my choice which platform to use to do a follow-up action. For instance, I start a business chat with a client on WhatsApp. He replies to get into a call on a date and a time. Meanwhile, I need to share some documents for both of us to prepare. Now this and many other typical communication scenarios require that I use multiple apps at the moment. If I had a single platform with all the channels integrated, I could choose the follow-up actions seamlessly without any break in the transaction.                                    Read More...https://techrai.com/
