“Are you seeing what I’m seeing? With Edwin and astrology boy?” Crystal was like a very persistent dog chasing a bone. It would have been endearing in any other circumstance, but Niko was tired, her eyes kept catching on Crystal’s nose piercing and the shape of her mouth was taking on a new meaning. She cast for any slight change in topic.
ficwriting is going well

at first, it thought niko sasaki is in her mid-twenties or college, as well as the other.
back to niko, i was so happy that i can relate to someone who's an adult, likes anime, doesn't go out her room, basically doesn't have a life, and doesn't have a friend. turns out she's still a teenager.

My favorite scene in dead boy detectives was when edward and charles started tormenting that highschooler because charles was dragging him around while edwin fruitilly threw papers in the air. It was so practiced you just know they've done it before, and Crystal played it off perfectly too lmao

edwin being catnip for a bunch of gayass supernatural entities is fucking hilarious. his victorian sensibilities and autistic mannerisms have bewitched them.

✩🪶🦋Series Review:
⋆ Spin-off of The Folk of the Air
⋆ Childhood friends to enemies to lovers
⋆ Faerie magic
⋆ Morally grey characters
Weird enough as it is, this duology is what got me back into The Folk of the Air series. When I first read “The Cruel Prince” it was at the recommendation of booktokers who claimed that it was a romance book. While there is romance, it takes a back seat to the storyline’s politics. All this to say, I went into the Folk of the Air with the wrong expectations and was let down as a result. When I picked up “The Stolen Heir”, I made sure to not make the same grave mistake and I absolutely LOVED it. I enjoyed reading from both Wren and Oak’s perspectives and admire the complexity surrounding their characterization and motivations. One of my favorite aspects of the novel will remain watching the love they felt for each other as children grow into something more amidst the betrayals and hijinks.  Black is a masterful storyteller and I felt like I was able to fully appreciate her craft while reading Wren and Oak’s stories. Now that I know what I’m in for, I look forward to revisiting “The Cruel Prince” and reading future books set in the world of Elfhame that Black may have in the works.
