You Tricky Loa!!!
I'm almost sure this theory has been posted somewhere or at least thought of in general but just in case and mostly to just gush about it myself....here we go!
Bwonsamdi was the "spirit" that told Vol'jin to promote Sylvanas to warchief.
But why?! What could he possibly gain from such a thing? Well souls duh. We know the Loa are wise and seem to close to all knowing to an extent. Bwon seems a bit more in the loop when it comes to the goings on of the land but it's not a real stretch to think he knows about what's going on in the Horde. We know he was at least in contact with Vol'jin to 'some' extent (at least from what we understand in the books regardless of how friendly there relationship is). He knows Sylvanas is blood thirsty, knows she will most likely start a war or at the very least is the one most likely to do so. And if she does she will need allies, allies with a decent navy perhaps?
So Bwon tells Vol'jin to make Sylvans leader, she starts a war which has the Horde seeking the aid of Zandalari trolls. Bwon also clearly knows about the strive in his own lands, knows the Princess will run out looks for aid from the Horde, knows they will come and at the very least assumes they will win against the threats to the kingdom, conveniently putting the Zandalari in debt to the Horde. Enough debt for them to join them in their own war.
But how does this help him in the long run? Spoilers for people who havnt made it through content yet.
Bwon wants a deal with Sylvanas who on her own is more than happy to make deals to gain any kind of power, and the power of the Loa of death? She's gonna take that bait. Shes most likely the most desperate and willing enough leader to do almost anything for power that will give her some control of that.
Bwon's deals can be anything, but his deal with us has any soul we take in battle going right to him. We can assume this means that they might not have otherwise given what we know of other Loa, some reincarnated there followers, save them from death, keep them alive or sacrifice them for their own power so maybe not all souls go to him in the end like we thought, but anyone we kill does. His deal with the King makes him the Loa of kings, bound to the royal blood line making him perhaps the most important, if royal worship is more powerful than normal citizens this gives him more power, and if royal souls are more powerful when consumed he as another win there.
So what would his deal with Sylvanas be? Perhaps that all horde souls to directly to him? A whole new land of souls he would otherwise not have contact with, bound to another powerful leader with access to all those under her? Seems like something he would be desperate for.
On top of this it seems like much like the princess, he could be desperate for protection or at least to side himself with powerful allies who dont want to feed him to a swamp God. The other Loa were dropping like flies, being used and consumed by Zul's follower or blood trolls for power, none of them seem down to worship Loa any longer so if they win, Zul takes over the age of Loa is gone, including his access to souls, and worship to keep him strong. The Zandilar trolls will keep their worship up, nothing will change at the very least if they win their own war. At the very least they wont kill him and harvest his meat to feed their swamp god... does he even have meat?
Bwon has literally everything to gain from Sylvanas being warchief.
He's also very VERY quick to help the hero out at almost every turn. While you can lump that into his dislike of blood trolls and him being weary of being sacrificed or forgotten by the end of their war, it could also be the fact that he wants to be as close as possible to the horde, helping them win this war and in turn gaining favor with Sylvanas for helping her most trusted and powerful hero.
Access to a whole new pool of worshipers
The end to the blood troll war
With that end a continuation of Loa worship and protection
Gaining big deals with two major leaders and the hero of Azeroth.
A link to the royal blood line
The souls of all lost in a massive war.
And who knows what else he might gain from Sylvanas, depends what a Banshee soul fetches on the ghost market.
It might not have been the best decision for the Horde to make Sylvans leader....but it clearly benefits one spirit who we know had contact with Vol'jin before his death.....
This all might be super dumb sounding to someone who knows more lore than I do of course it could be talked about elsewhere and I'm not special for thinking if it. Who knows!? But I wanted to throw it out there mostly because I got amazingly excited thinking about a Troll Loa pulling the strings from a far away land. It's at least a neat idea!
Either way Bwon is Bae!
