Wayfarers' Ger in 2024

I'm going to make an effort to actually make use of this Tumblr. \o/

What Is Wayfarers' Ger?

It started out as a weekly storytelling RP event with a steppe theme ICly set in a ger/yurt on the Azim steppe, then we started adding bigger events every so often, like our summer event "Steppes on the Beach", but as altaholics, we've also tied in some of our other projects like The Approving Seal and The Ankhai Tribe.

I am an enthusiast of steppe culture & really want to bring some appreciation for the real-world steppe cultures and base a lot of my RP around its culture. I am far from an expert & I take some artistic license like the devs did because it's Mongolia-influenced, not a re-creation.

What's The Plan?

More events in 2024, starting with Tsagaan Sar, the new year. More use of the Approving Seal and the Ankhai Tribe.

I also want to make better use of social media (like Tumblr here), the wider community and our website.

Plans for the Approving Seal

The Approving Seal is a Terncliff-themed cafe & charity and we just did our Starlight event with it. With the Approving Seal, we like to try and offer a more wholesome kind of RP and this year we want to use it for actual charity fundraisers for real-world charities.

Plans for Wayfarers' Ger

On the Wayfarers' Ger side, I want to lean more & more heavily into the culture stuff, this seems to be the stuff people respond best to, which I am happy for because it's the part I care most about & want to dive deeper with.

As much as I would like to keep a fortnightly RP, we do find they get a variable turn out and I have mused on it & I know we've tried getting them working again, like in the early days, but my energy may be better placed in themed events with more attention to quality.

And I have a few ideas I am toying with for things we could do, including opening the floor for more people to get involved with contributing, because I realise I can sometimes do things on a bit of a whim.

Plans for General Steppe Stuff

I also found some of my "The Real Steppe" blog posts get some popularity and even got a mention in Mirkes Menagerie for my comments about magic on the steppe. So I want to put out more things like it & share them with the Wayfarers' Ger & general Steppe RP community. And I want to go back & spot-check my old blog posts to make sure they're to a standard I am happy with & that I triple-check any facts.

The motivation for triple-checking is that I have learned that not all sources on Mongolian culture are reliable. For example: UNSECO has information about tuulis and the practice but the information confuses different types of Mongolian storytelling & other sources seem to give similar info & frame it in totally the wrong way. And I have better sources who don't mind me asking questions.

Plans for the Ankhai Tribe

The Ankhai tribe is a custom tribe inspired by Tuvans, Mongolians and Siberians, who come from north of the tail mountains and the Dalvalan Grath. Like with how FFXIV approaches cultures, there is still artistic license, so not all ideas/customs are grounded in the real world, but include FFXIV-appropriate flair, to keep it within the realms of fantasy.

We spent some time introducing some of the characters into the general community & ran individual RP's & events to establish IC connections and working through the story arc that allows us to open up the tribe to more people to create their own characters. For 2024, I want to do smaller RP's & events where the tribe is a focus, with room to recruit people into the concept.

Closing Note

I realise I made it a long post. But the new year brings new opportunities and I am still passionate about the RP's we run and want to not neglect things I've started and instead not only keep doing what we do, but aim for something cooler. Plus, with my focus on visiting Mongolian in 2025, learning the language and spending time in groups relating to Mongolia, it's traditions & culture, I hope to work with you all to create greater RP experiences this year and clear out the crickets & cobwebs from both our Tumblr & Discord.

If I don't keep up my promise, hunt me down and slap me.

Interest Check in a Crystal DC based FFXIV RP/Community Discord?

In my hunger for interaction and wanting to get back into RP in FFXIV, I've come up short on a true 'RP/community finder' style Discord community, for FCs, other groups in and out of game, 1x1 RP, open world RP, and so on. Maybe even would have a section for GPosers to open commissions in if there's demand for it outside of the existing GPose communities. Would be 18+ because there'll be dedicated opt-in channels for NSFW/adult RP and communities because they deserve a place to call home too!

Anyway, I'm doing an 'official' interest check now. If anyone wants to help run it, or wants to give me a hand in orchestrating what is probably a big task, hit me up!

If you're even vaguely interested, a reblog and a like would go a LONG way to helping me out!

(Side note: I have a neglected FFXIV RP sideblog at landshorizon, I'm revamping it right now with new OCs and hoping to launch this just after the revamp! For now I'm posting on my main/multifandom just cause it's easier to keep track of for me.)

FFXIV Write 2023 - help me pick who to write for! [Poll]

🧾The plan:

I've decided to participate in FFXIV Write this September as a way of maybe? possibly? easing myself back into the FFXIV RP realm. I'll be doing a modified schedule, though, because I was barely able to manage the daily prompts in previous years (when I was well).

So far, I'm thinking that I will set deadlines for myself on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The plan is to write a short piece to one of the daily prompts from Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday of that week, and one from Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. I'll also set Sundays as my optional bonus day, where I can write to another prompt from the week, write to some other prompt, or rest.

That totals up to between 9 and 13 entries. That sounds doable, I think?

A maximum of 13 entries... and I've got 19 characters, maybe 20 if I count the Sage concept* I came up with recently.

Uh oh. (My eternal nemesis: choosing.)

I should rekindle my interest in the game with some gosh danged RP, so here's a short introduction of who I got and some hooks to get you more interested!

Kellach Woods - Adventurer, Masked "hero", Explorer of the Unknown (Balmung) The main man. The masked wonder himself. The lad what casually breaks the laws of aetherology by his very existence, more often than not to his detriment. Married, currently helping out his husband as a healer in Gridania as essentially a healing echo person or to diagnose the source of injuries. A lean, mean, weapon-swinging miming machine.

You need to investigate some ruins/forgotten lands/abandoned areas/anything dangerous and need extra muscle.

You need someone to investigate something for you, and unfortunately Hildibrand Manderville does not have time to take your request.

You want something to do with Ul'dah's coliseum and need a man on the inside.

You caught wind that there are several authorities who want him captured and/or monitored for reasons ranging from the frivolous to the deadly serious.

Einrich Woods - Scholar, Atoning Reaper, Former Garlean genocide apologist (Balmung)

Brother to the above and one of the last two remainders that their people existed. Got a bit too involved with the Ala Mhigan war and committed acts that even the Resistance thought went too far, and eventually the guilt of which led him to an exiled Garlean Reaper who taught him the arts as he needs a power greater than his scholar infections to properly atone.

You've heared of the Diabolos' Rogues' actual plans and have learned their leader is still out there

You do not like the idea of more Reapers and want to perhaps end him for it

You found his heavily annotated Medica Thavnairica with notes on aether infections and want to know more (for whatever reason)

Someone you know was a victim of one of his experiments, or seeking justice for those

P'rih Maahl - Summoner, Theologian, Tribal quipper (Balmung)

A young mi'qote lass who seeks to learn of the tribal gods in order to catalogue their different aspects and historical summonings in what she dubs the Primal Primer. Had a close encounter with Ifrit that left her with enough aether to summon an Egi which led to her trying to figure out how to call upon the full power of the beasts without the whole pesky aether drain.

You need cultural insights on the different tribes of Eorzea and beyond.

Someone summoned a Primal and you need someone who's been proven to not be tempered as there is a porxie shortage

You're a member of the off shoot of the P tribe she was banished from, or a different P tribe member who wonders why she's not busy nurturing children.

You heard a friendly voice dispensing folk wisdom with quotes from her tribe (which you think are made up) and figured you wanted to check out what was going on.

Kazuhiro Liangshan - Mystic Ronin, Master of the Empty Sword, Can't remember a thing about his style (Balmung)

A hingan Raen who worked the fields yet during a skirmish that threatened to slaughter his village, he picked up a stray katana and inexplicably began to slaughter, as the inheritor to a style that is more mystical than practical, as he can use it innately, but cannot teach it nor write its forms.

You have somehow heard of the Mu no Ryu style exhibited by this peasant turned ronin and want to seek it out for some reason.

You spot a face-painted red Raen with a pompadour and may be wondering why this look.

You are both tasked with protecting the same person.

You are both drinking in the same establishment.

Maleiscion Ornedwesfv - Dark Knight, Cursed Child, Idiot (Balmung, Zalera)

An exile from his Viera tribe due to a curse that made him ill-suited for male viera tribal lifestyle and other things, he cast himself out at a young age and ended up wandering to Ishgard, where he encountered Dark Knights and found that he could use his "curse" to help the downtrodden. Of course, his curse is just an aetherogenetic anomaly and not actually magical in any way, but he won't let that stop him.

You need a Dark Knight to enact justice on the untouchable.

He is a male viera in an urban area, which should be a curiosity alone.

You seek to cure his curse, yet it keeps resisting all attempts (because it does not exist, and perhaps you should be the one to tell him).

You are a member of said tribe who wishes to commiserate on a potential shared past.

That's what I got, I do have more but that's what I remember at the moment.

I figured I should introduce my self here sooo hi all I'm Seraph im part of a system im 25 and I go by He/They pronouns. I've been playing ffxiv since 2020 and run a few FCs on the Crystal DC but my main character and main FC are on Zalera. Meet Suzu! She's a young Au ra woman with a mysterious past who claims she came to La Noscea looking for her cartographer father. Since coming to the seaside region this little bookworm has built up quite the life for herself and is currently the headmaster at the prestigious Rose Academy. (Hiatus from RP due to Fanta)

Meet Osamu! He is Suzus brother and was also the villain in her story but after losing everything family included he started to long for the life he could have had if things were different from the start now hes off looking for his sister to try and set things right.

Meet Y'neli! She's the youngest of three and never far from one of her sisters. There's something otherworldly about her and she lives her life like everyday is her last. She's charming and flirty and always ends up with a crowd around her! She spends her days playing and writing music this world has never heard before.

Meet Hideki! He's a performer and has recently been passed down and made the leader of the Hikaru Performance Troupe. Following in his late mothers footsteps he is the star of Hikaru and has the attitude to match. Hes flirty and kinda rude but he's an alright guy deep down!

Meet Rhea! Rhea is a young dancer and seamstress form Thavnair who was one of the first entertainers Hideki scouted to be a part of Hikaru Performance Troupe. Now a dancer and costume designer for Hikaru Rhea loves to bring touches of Thavnair wherever the troupe preforms.

Meet T'wryn! Shes a street rat from Limsa who longs to see the world like the adventurers and sailors she meets on the ships shes so fascinated with. When the opportunity arose to join Hikaru as an acrobat she jumped at the chance and now she gets to make her own stories in the locations she's dreamt of for so long.

Meet Chika! She was a young farmer who dreamed of a bigger life. When she was recommended for a bartending job at a famous theater her whole world changed and now shes getting a taste for the nightlife she always dreamed of.

Bituun & Tsagaan Sar RP Event

Hey folks, we're running a Bituun and Tsagaan Sar RP event alongside the <Xaela> DIscord, more information & poster below.

Hey folks, Yesunova here, I am throwing together a Bituun & Tsagaan Sar event with some of my folks at Wayfarers' Ger and as well as organisers from and doing it as a double-feature or two-parter, with the first at Wayfarers' Ger, for the Bituun portion and over at Reunion for the Tsagaan Sar portion (on Zalera). We've timed the events to fall on the real-world Tsagaan Sar and is aimed at an easy-going casual RP with a Tsagaan Sar-based ritual, as well as food and games to get people mingling to get the year started with something nice by catching up with old friends or making new ones, as with new year comes new beginnings.

Hello, and thank you for stopping by my blog! I'm Hazel and this is one of my alt characters for FFXIV RP. My pronouns are he/him, I'm an early 20's college student still trying to figure out what to do with my life, but I'm getting there!

I'm still very new to roleplaying but I've always had a ton of thoughts and ideas about my characters so this blog is both to help consolidate those thoughts and to also share them with anyone who wants to see them.

Fish's Carrd can be found here if you want a quick overview of things, though I will be going more in depth with who he is on this blog. My main FFXIV character's page can be found here as well.

I'm situated on Zalera (Crystal) and spend most of my time either raiding or taking GPose shots, but regardless I look forward to seeing everyone around the great, vast star we find ourselves on.

About Fish

Exploding Goldfish, yes that is his name (but most everyone just calls him "Fish"), was born to a family of miners in Uldah. Throughout his life he was surrounded by heavy machinery, sparking a lifelong love of machines and inventing. His youth was spent learning everything he could about technology, including Garlean Magitek. His studies eventually paid off and he scored the job of his dreams working as part of Garlond Ironworks...at least for a while.

An accident during a project cost Fish partial vision in his left eye and his position in the company. Scarred and humiliated, he drifted for months before finally finding secure work and pay at Wolves' Den Pier. There he spent his time maintaining and repairing the machines used in the Grand Company's "Rival Wings" competition, and when he wasn't working on repairs he was drowning his self-pity in alcohol.

It wasn't all for nothing, however. While at Wolves' Den, Fish chanced upon meeting a scrawny Viera living under the pier; Qara Wen. It took some coaxing but eventually Fish was able to befriend him, and over time that friendship evolved into brotherhood. And so when Fish was recruited to become Chief Engineer on the merchant ship The Enduring Deeds, his one request was that Qara be welcomed aboard as well.

⏳/backstory hourglass: for Maati (or any character of your choice)

(Here's the first prompt fill for my modified version of the FFXIVWrite 2023 challenge! As in previous years, I'm clearing out my [oh god 2 year old] backlog of asks. This year, I am aiming to write to two prompts per week, plus an extra credit/bonus day, if I feel up to it.)

For every “⏳” I receive, my muse will openly talk about a bit of their backstory.

Prompt 2: Bark

Who: Maparhi Savaptha, Aynur Savaptha, Hearer Elmott

What: A stranger arrives at Aynur's camp.

Where: The East Shroud, in the area now occupied by Baelsar's Wall.

When: About 30 years ago, early fall

Maparhi woke slowly, scrunching her nose. Outside, the wind danced and tumbled loudly through the slowly-yellowing leaves, playful and purposeful as only autumn wind could be. It was still chilly; only morning. Far too early to get up.

Her mother was not in her usual spot between Maparhi and the entrance, but a comforting warmth still lingered in the furs. She was probably coming right back to bed.

Maparhi was turning to snuggle deeper into the pile of blankets when her skin prickled with the feeling of being watched.

She opened her eyes.

At the open door flap of their home, a strange hyuran man knelt. The sun hung behind him, and she couldn't see his face in the shadow of his wide-brimmed, pointed hat.

Blue. It was deep blue, and so were his robes, and she knew what that meant.

Her heart thumped in her chest, and she tried to shrink beneath the edge of the blanket. Her mother — where was her mother? Maparhi's tail thrashed behind her, trapped under the covers as her ears pricked fruitlessly, scouring the heedless wind for any sign. 

"Don't be afraid, Maparhi," the stranger said, though the rough H went missing when he said it. Although his voice was soft, her name in his mouth made Maparhi startle. When her mother's moccasin-clad feet appeared at his side, Maparhi could see that her fingers were twisted together at her waist, knuckles white.

"But isn't it too soon?" she heard her mother say, quiet, as though fearing to speak the words too loudly.

"Mama?" Maparhi called, hearing her own voice tremble.

"It's al—" Her mother's hands shook as she bit off the word. She muttered something to the man — the Hearer, he must be a Hearer — as she dove past him, pulling Maparhi into her arms.

"I'm sorry, Maparhi," she murmured, the words thick with tears. "I'm so sorry. It's not your fault."

Maparhi clung to her mother's neck, confusion and fear swirling in her chest until she grew dizzy. Outside, the wind gusted around the clearing, tearing leaves from the trees and bowing the grass flat to the earth. The Hearer nearly lost his hat, clapping it to his head with one hand. His eyes grew wide, but he stayed silent.

Her mother was making gentle shushing noises under the wind's howling, fingers combing through Maparhi's hair. "Take a deep breath, beloved. I know, I know, you must be so frightened. But I promise you will be safe, and I promise..." Her mother's arms tightened around her, squeezing her so tightly as if to press her affection into Maparhi's very bones. "...I promise, I love you, always."

It sounded so final, but Maparhi slowly calmed herself in her mother's arms the way she had been guided to do so many times before. She thanked the wind, and she thanked the earth, and bit by bit, she let the tight grip around her heart relax. The gusts calmed. Soon, the wind returned to playing through the leaves as though nothing had happened.

When she emerged from their home, hand-in-hand with her mother, the Hearer — Elmott — introduced himself. Now that she could see beneath his hat, she saw that his face was young, and he had a warm and kindly air. In careful words, he explained what was happening, and Maparhi listened with ears straining toward him, struggling to understand his city accent. She was to come with him to Gridania, to be trained in conjury by Stillglade Fane, because the Elementals had decreed it. 

(At this, Maparhi looked to her mother, flicking her tail to show her puzzlement. Had the wood said anything to her? But her mother simply squeezed her hand reassuringly, though her smile wobbled.)

Hearer Elmott continued his explanation uninterrupted, as though the brief exchange had not happened. Her natural abilities were impressively strong, he said, and this was for her safety — and for the safety of her mother, and of everyone living in the Twelveswood. He was sorry that she had to be taken from her home, but it was necessary so that she could be trained properly, without distraction. He had grown up in the Fane himself, he said, and she would be well-cared-for. 

And that was that.

Nerves still made her limbs shake as Maparhi stood and dressed properly for travel. She was to take nothing with her, the Hearer said, for her every need would be met by the Fane — but as her mother gave her one last hug, she felt a cool weight slip into the neck of her tunic, sliding down until her belt caught it at her waist.

As they traveled west, Maparhi snuck it from her shirt. It was a flat piece of reddish wood, half the width of her small palm, sanded and polished smooth. Into it was carved a tree whose branches and roots spread wide to encompass the whole surface, spilling around the edges. On the other side, nestled between root-tip and leaf, was a hollow that just fit the pad of her thumb.

Carefully, she hid it again, and tried to pretend she did not feel it tapping against her side as she walked in Hearer Elmott's footsteps.

Later, Maparhi would learn that the day she left was her sixth nameday.

Hello hello! Mod Ki'to here, and I am the humble Mooncat behind @humblemooncat (Clever, isn't it? I'll see myself out-)

I'll be helping out with the festivities this year offering my services as an omnigatherer, tank, and my access to things such as skybuilders' and island goodies (For which I have a plethora of currency)!

So, if you need help getting certain things you might not yet have access to, collecting an abundance of resources, or a tank to help level or farm, I'm your man. o7

To introduce myself a bit more for those who've never seen me around before, I run the aforementioned blog as my main hub for all things FFXIV, but generally I just post about my main catboys and assorted ocs!

My mains in-game are my Warriors of Sunlight & Moonlight, U'lohi Tia ("Orange Sherbert" in-game) and Ki'to Vashai.

Though Lohi's home world is Halicarnassus, Dynamis, you can generally find them both on Zalera, Crystal! If I'm not on one, chances are I'm on the other. ;3c

I also run the sideblog @hikinghydaelyn, made for a challenge alt I play from time to time whose main goal is to rp walk the whole MSQ.
