if random questions are OK, feel free to ignore if not: if you were to assign a moral alignment for your character (lawful/neutral/chaotic) (good/neutral/evil), what would it be and why?
He asks, as if I don't send random shit his way constantly (jk ily and thank you for being considerate)
Truthfully? I think he's definitely a chaotic good alignment. "A chaotic good character acts as his conscience directs him with little regard for what others expect of him. He makes his own way, but he's kind and benevolent. He believes in goodness and right but has little use for laws and regulations."
Jin is a serial killer, yes, but the only reason he ever actually commits these atrocities is in the name of justice. When a bully has atoned for their actions, he doesn't come in and swing the hammer down again. However, in cases like Kawai, he may have faced some consequences for his actions, but he never actually really atoned for it. Granted, I do think that Jin went to the extreme with Shinya because of his own guilt and that in other circumstances with identical repercussions (such as the public shaming), he would not go after that person.
Also, he has a conscience. When Sawa-sensei dies, it's not that he doesn't care. In fact, he's very clearly struggling with the guilt that this young woman died in the crossfire. As confirmed in the final sequence as he has flashbacks, you can clearly see that Sawa-sensei's face after she's murdered pops up. Keep in mind, her eyes are also open, meaning that, despite knowing full well that RK is doing everything and anything he can to find him, even using Sawa-sensei as bait, he still doubles back to go see, perhaps even try and save, Sawa-Sensei. Keep in mind, this is before Yagami can really get a true sense of who this guy is outside of the initial "who is this bitch and why is he stealing my friends?", so Kuwana's done this of his own volition. No one has to point out that he should feel guilty that a civilian got caught in the middle of his pursuit of vengeance. He's very well aware that this should not have happened.
He knows killing is bad, however, he also knows that without extremist action, things are not going to change to actually protect children in this regard. To him, the end justifies the means. As pointed out in the games, the parents of the victims as well as other characters, such as Higashi and Kaito, all understand where he's coming from. It's even acknowledged that there's a reason no one's reported him yet even though they declined his offer.
He's also more than ready to accept the consequences of his actions. Also depicted in the end of LJ, he could have very easily killed Souma in revenge for him murdering Sawa-sensei, but he acknowledged that in order for truth and justice to prevail, Souma had to be taken in for questioning. The main reason he was ready to die rather than come clean was because of Reiko. His guilt over Mitsuru was a huge guiding factor for him, and protecting her was, in a way, his own way to atone for his neglect. However, he carried on when she came clean, not in that he's necessarily continued killing, but he's created a challenge for the law enforcement. He's the one to have leaked the information of the deceased bullies. This isn't because he's trying to play a game, but rather, he knows that if he can be caught with proper evidence, it means the law is finally capable of protecting the bullied children he's sought out to avenge.
Honestly, I love this question, and I'm gonna keep adding to this because it's amazing and I love Kuwana so much.
(I'll also definitely have to reread/edit/addend this I'm running on 3 hours of sleep again alkjdfa;ldsjfka;sdf)

Hoshigumi Small Theaters ~ Spring 2019
Tumblr media
I am five entire shows behind on reviews and I hate it!!
But I finally make it to Kansai!! I conveniently managed to see these guys on back to back days upstairs and downstairs in the same building. If nothing else I think I am 500% more educated on Hoshigumi after this trip.
Man from Algiers / Estrellas 2.0
Man from Algiers ticks all the National Tour buttons—old, done many times, ambiguous time period (useful for traveling costume recycling, i.e. why not just use the rainbow sports jackets we need for Estrellas anyway!)—and while I’m not surprised that Coto can make just about anything good, I was a bit surprised at how much I enjoyed the show itself (this was the first time I’d seen it at all, which was a blessing as the surprise ending was my favorite part).
I can definitely envision it in all its original 70s glory, and it made me wonder if they really just wanted to exploit a West Side Story aesthetic’s swoon-inducing abilities and came up with the plot later; the opening looks and choreography were awfully familiar. Am I saying it didn’t work?
Tumblr media
No I am not saying that.
(And the resulting prologue number was really cool).
The story, while dated, was simple and easy to follow, and does a great job of making sure you understand each character’s motivation with minimal info (difficult AND clutch for one-acts). There’s a good summary on the wiki, I’m including spoilers not mentioned there.
Team National Tour is definitely the lighter side of the troupe split, especially with regard to upperclassmen, but I thought Algiers was a good fit for this particular arrangement of members, and everyone really nailed their characters. Most notable:
Julien is a despicable person, and it’s a testament to Coto’s pure heart and brimming talent that she made him a totally valid protagonist, complete with moments that made my heart lurch a little (when his old friends are bullying him in his cute little chauffeur outfit; how quickly he abandons everything to stand by Sabine when everything goes to hell at the end).
It was very weird first not to see Aichan in Ocean’s and then to see her hanging out with a percentage of Hoshigumi, but this cast needed her. Her Jacques (albeit very reminiscent of her Bernardo) was a good balance for Coto; they both played unsavory people, but Aichan playing bad has kind of a darker streak that suits the more evil friend well, whereas Coto playing bad still has an undercurrent of goodness that gets you fully on board with his journey to reform.
Otoha Minori as Sabine was a good choice not only for her abs in the gold night club bikini dress, but for her maturity, which lended sincerity to Sabine’s fantasy-level selflessness in her concern for Julien and her desire to watch over him. When she shoots Jacques in her dressing room to get him out of the way so he can’t interfere with Julien’s new life, I was so impressed that it read as an act of sacrifice (however excessive and stupid) purely out of love and desire to see Julien continue to grow and succeed, instead of “look at what I did for you, come back to me!”
Asamizu Ryou played Bollinger, the dude who takes Julien in and grooms him for upper-crust success, opposite not just Coto (her senpai) but Shirotae Natsu (her mega-senpai), and she did it with a surprising amount of gravitas. She’s got that face which definitely helps, but she was a little scary and exuded a lot of authority. Shirotae Natsu was hilarious as the extraordinarily airheaded wife, and her interjections may have even been singlehandedly responsible for keeping the pacing of the show brisk and entertaining.
Sakuraba Mai played the Bollingers’ daughter Elizabeth. She was detestable, but in the way that indicates a great acting job. She’s at that awkward spot where it looks like she’s getting almost heroine weight roles in small theaters and disappearing in grand theaters. I hope they keep pushing her because she’s very strong.
Number one heartbreaker Kozakura Honoka (voice of an angel!) played blind Annabel, daughter of Kumichou/a very influential duchess. She mostly stays inside alone, and then Julien woos her with the intention of climbing the social/political ladder (while developing feelings for Elizabeth and also really never getting over Sabine). Annabel overhears Julien confessing his feelings to Elizabeth and asks her attendant Andre (Kiwami Shin, in love with Annabel) to let her kill herself. Honoka apparently put an immense amount of time and research into acting blind and it showed.
Fellow American Sayaka Rin had probably the most lines she’s had yet, in a role formerly held by both Takashio Tomoe and Hyuuga Kaoru <3
My personal MVPs of this show were Shidou Ryuu and Kiwami Shin, Shidou not even for doing anything particularly spectacular, but just just for having grown so much since I first became aware of her existence via the Koumori shinko 3+ years ago. She’s always going to be on the cute side rather than the devastating side IMO, but she’s developed enough confidence and control in her acting that she’s become a really lovable best friend/brother type; her character’s relationship with Julien and secret-but-obvious admiration of his far superior coolness was really adorable. Andre (Shin) isn’t a super juicy role until the very end, but the way Shin did Andre’s quiet breakdown when Annabel was explaining she didn’t want to live anymore, and then her poise when Andre came out of nowhere and shot Julien just as he and Sabine were trying to run away from shooting Jacques (?!??!) was like, my jaw actually dropped. Granted she’s still super young, but Shin isn’t someone who has thus far impressed me proportionately to the amount they’re pushing her, so this mini breakout was nice to see.
Estrellas (a revue that I loved!), like all tour revues with less than half the cast and no staircase, felt quite small, at least from the B-seki side box. But in the smallness, normally unseen people get to shine, and there were moments that had me bouncing in my chair. Amato Kanon is going to grow up dangerous (if Tennis Daughter doesn’t just consume all the otokoyaku below 98th); in the opening with everyone else beaming she was smoldering. Aichan and Anru took Kai’s medley (with different songs) and made it a very cute douki thing. Sazanami Reira needs to dance closer to the front more often. Ruri Hanaka (who, bless her heart, cannot sing, at least not like a musumeyaku) somehow snagged Airi’s part in Tonight is What it Means to be Young, and despite the singing, absolutely killed it; that girl can DANCE and she’s got sass and arm muscles for days and a look in her eye like she’ll superglue you to your makeup table if you cross her.
And boy, Coto looks good in that top position. The talent is really stupid, but on top of that she has such warmth. I’m really excited for her Hoshigumi.
Kamatari
Kamatari accomplished a feat, because admittedly I went in having already biased myself against it; I thought Beni and Airi getting a weird nihonmono for their last small theater was dumb and just about as NOT THEM as you can get.
But I take it back! It was lovely!
For starters it was visually stunning, which feels like the thing you say when you’re trying to convince yourself that you liked a nihonmono you didn’t actually understand a word of... but in this case, it really was just a bonus. The story (summary here) is not actually all that complicated, and the dialogue was even on the friendly side for nihonmono—no weird dialects (beyond what it always takes to decipher Beni), no 12th level keigo.
Act 1 introduces Kamatari (Beni) and Soga no Iruka (Hanagata Hikaru) meeting as youths in school and developing a friendship, and then takes us, as far as I can tell, fairly historically accurately through the events leading up to and including the Isshi Incident. Act 2 was a little harder for me to follow; but it seems to be just a progression of Kamatari’s struggles living under the new post-incident emperor Naka no Oe (Seocchi), with whom he’d conspired to eliminate Soga no Iruka, and the former empress/Naka no Oe’s mother (Kuracchi), who wants to see Kamatari suffer, because she both loved Iruka and couldn’t side against her son.
Most of the roles were pretty small so there are fewer standouts, but here they are:
This was the third in a progression of Hoshi shows I saw live (the other two being Another World and Elbe) that really helped cement my respect for Beni and Airi’s brand of chemistry. At the beginning of her top run, I was skeptical about Beni’s ability to generate romantic chemistry with anyone at all (Scarlet Pimpernel didn’t really help me with that, and I haven’t seen anything between that and Another World). They definitely don’t have sizzling hot chemistry, and they don’t have that cute newlywed chemistry either, but I noticed watching Kamatari that in the last few Hoshi things I’ve seen, I’ve found it very easy to believe how deeply Beni loves Airi in whatever world they’re portraying. They have like, comfortable old married couple chemistry (yes, even when they’re playing love at first sight). Their moments in Kamatari were very tender, but in a wholesome “aw, she cooked for him” kind of way. Yoshiko (Airi) also had a lovely part at the end, where the two of them are old, and Kamatari’s health is failing, and they go back to the spot where they met, and she says their life wasn’t always easy, and they suffered, and they struggled, but in the end she can honestly say she had fun, and she’s truly happy. I teared up! It was sweet and meta! That alone convinced me it wasn’t a bad last small theater for them.
Hanagata Hikaru was SO much the star of Act 1 that it had me wondering if this was gonna turn out to be HER taidan present (but then she died and didn’t appear in Act 2 at all). I can’t complain because she kicked ass. I feel like I said this exact thing re: Another World, but Mitsuru is normally about as vanilla as it gets for me, but she blew me away. The pompous genius school kid to the idealistic young man to the uncertainty that comes with the reality of seizing power to the change to tyranny mixed with love for the empress and complicated feelings for his childhood friend all flowed seamlessly.
Not that I’ve watched a ton of Hoshi recently, but this was the best role Tenju Mitsuki has gotten in GOD I can’t even remember how long. Esaka is in service of the (state? empire?) as a historical record keeper, and serves kind of as a narrator as well (along with Itsuki Chihiro). I don’t even know how to describe how she characterized him... he’s odd? Maybe a little off? Regardless, she was brilliant. Watch it.
Arisa Hitomi has that empress energy for sure. I read up on the history of the events afterwards, and the explanation of why she had to give up the throne after witnessing such violence (the idea back then that an empress couldn’t be sullied by such things), and that made the sensitivity with which Kuracchi portrayed her feel even more poignant the more I sat with it afterwards.
This was the first show where to me Seocchi felt like she belonged up there with Beni and Mitsuru. She definitely put some weight behind Naka no Oe and was very princely. NOW I wanna see her tackle a more interesting/challenging (and tbh more Hoshigumi) role from up in this spot.
All in all now I’m a little sad I won’t be around for God of Stars.

Otome challenge!
I saw this challenge while looking around totally wanna give it a shot! Here it goes!
What’s your favorite game right now?
I don't have a favorite more like favorites!
Kissed by the baddest bidder, Enchanted in the moonlight, Star crossed myths, After school affairs, Be my princess 1 & 2, Seduced in the sleepless city, Scandal in the spotlight, Butler until midnight, True love sweet lies, Love letter from Theif X, & Dreamy days in West Tokyo (I know its alot but these are my major favorites though some of the others I like to but I wouldnt say they are on my favorite list)
Who’s your favorite character?
Hidetaka Sera from After school affairs! DAT SMIRK DOUGH!!! lmao and ....
Werner Olivers butler from Be my princess 2 (YES HE DOESNT HAVE A ROUTE BUT HE SHOULD I SIMPLY LOVE HIM!)
Who’s your least favorite game?
A knights devotion & Rose in the Embers (Even though Kyosuke is totally sexy! I just cant get into it due to the dialouge)
Who’s your least favorite character?
Hmmm this ones tough....I'm gonna go with either Edward Levaincois from Be my princess (HEAR ME OUT! I just thought he was much cheesier in this dialogue then any other characters I've read which is funny because I like Max from Be my princess 2) & Noel from Seduced in the sleepless city (I just couldnt really get into when hes in the other characters stories hes cool but it was my least favorite route in the game)
Who’s the hottest characters?
Oh god we're gonna be here all night! This is not in any specific order and I really had to narrow it down it was pretty hard I've read and seen alot of routes in my time forgive me if my list is long!:
Icthys (Star Crossed Myth)
Joshua, Zain, Alberto & Luke (Be my princess yea I know Luke & Alberto are only butlers and only really have two special stories but I DON'T CARE!)
Sieg, Oliver & Werner (Be my princess 2 yes another butler but as stated above I SIMPLY LOVE HIM!)
Yosuke (Kings of Paradise)
Hikaru & Rhion ( Kissed by the baddest bidder)
Trevor (Seduced in the sleepless city)
Kyohei & Iori ( Scandal in the spotlight)
Yuma & Itsuki ( Butler until midnight)
Rui & Nozomu (True love sweet lies)
Hidetaka & Rikiya (After school affairs)
Who’s the funniest characters?
Alone to me would be Ichtys and Hidetaka (because of the things they say) HOWEVER I have 2 dynamic duos that make for really hilarious dialouge:
1) Ota & Baba (kissed by the baddest bidder) I think everyone who's ever read this group of stories can totally agree with me when I say they are the most hilarious comedy pairing out their. They way they play off of each other is PERFECTION! Comic gold!
2) Oliver & Werner (Be my princess 2) now hear me out cause some of yall are probably like huh!? Well to me they are hilarious for the same reason Ota and Baba are they play off of one another amazingly! It's like Werners the big brother and Oliver's the younger one. It's fun to see them two especially when Oliver is getting into trouble for sneaking out of his duties and Werner catches him because he's placed a tracking device on him. To me it's a cute funny not comic gold but really funny.
Who’s your favorite MC?
Hmm this ones tough because for the most part I dont really care for the MC in any of them. Mainly because I'm literally yelling at her while reading most of the stories for some stupid shit. But if I had to choose a favorite probably be between either the MC from Be my princess 2 (especially in Sieg's main story when she chews him out in his office) or the MC in Masquerade Kiss.
Kiss, Marry, Avoid?
Depends on the game but if were going as a whole I would
Kiss Icthys (Star crossed myth)
Marry Hidetaka (After school affairs) or Werner (Be my princess 2)
Avoid Shinobu (Serendipity next door) homeboys CREEPY AS FUCK!!! I read his story once and it freaked me out so much I dont really wanna read Serendipity next door again!!
Which has the best artwork by Voltage?
Damn! That's hard to alot of Voltages artwork is great! But I'm gonna have to say my top 2 that are actually tied for first is Kings of Paradise & After School Affairs.
Who’s route was most interesting?
Oh god again! Hmmm this ones another tough one most of the routes I've read in stories are really amazing and as you can tell already I'm a highly indecisive person! So I have a top 3 not in a specific order:
1) Hidetaka Sera (After school affairs) In the many stories I had read before this one I had never read any where it tackled bullying and attempted suicide I think it really hit home for me making it truly moving.
2) Mitsuru Sanada (First Love Diaries -A kiss on the beach-) Even though Mitsuru is up there on my list of least favorite characters (hes not my least favorite though probably would be #4) his story touches issues such as teen pregnancy. To me controversial issues being drawn out in a story and the way Voltage has it are very moving and amazing! It really sucked me in.
3) Nozomu Fuse (True love sweet lies) his story even though not dealing with controversial issues really it was quite the read and is on my highly recommend list. Sometimes Voltage has a tendency of making stories pretty easy to figure out but with Nozomus it shocked me in the end and left me on the edge of my seat I simply couldnt put it away!
Who’s route was most boring?
Probably Kyosukes from Rose in the Embers. I mean yes hes incredibly gorgeous but to me it really lack lustered and it was a pretty typical love story between social classes. The only part that truly intrigued me was the prologue and how she came to meet the guys and how she choose him. No judgement for the ones who love Rose in the Embers. It's just that after I read it I was pretty dissapointed.
What’s your favorite character type?
Sexy smirks & Abs always get to me physically (a.k.a Hidetaka, Rui & Yosuke!). However tbh I dont think ii have a specific type of character I go for I mean if you look at my two favorite characters both Hidetaka & Werner are very different from each other. So to me I think it's all about the way the MC and the character bounce off of one another so well it makes for some hilarious and yet amazing dialogue. When I feel like I'm saying in my head "hey! This sounds like the kind of conversation I could possibly have" then the characters got my attention. But a sense of humor is a total must for me even if it's small jabs here and there like Werner with Oliver from Be my princess 2.
Who’s the most annoying MC?
I dont have a specific because as I said alot of the MCs in different stories their actions make me wanna smack my damn head! And make me wonder how have they survived that many years in their lives. Lmao
What’s your favorite Otome moment?
This one is simple...I dont have one. In truth I read the stories to get away from the stress of my everyday life. So any moment I have where I can laugh or smile because I'm reading an amazing story or even a moment where I'm smacking my head over an MC to me is a time where I'm able to relax and breathe away from all the stress which makes every otome moment I have a great one.
THATS IT! it took sooooooo long!

Bookshelf Briefs 4/30/18
Again!!, Vol. 2 | By Mitsurou Kubo | Kodansha Comics – Imamura sets about convincing the former members of the ouendan to rejoin the club. Although he has success with drummer Tatsuhiko Okuma (who has an extremenly ardent, unrequited crush on Usami), the other second years want nothing to do with it. Thankfully, he finally manages to convince a pair of third years to return by exposing the cheerleaders’ evil plot via a puppet show. (Yes, really.) Things are looking up, Usami is smiling, but… he’s still stuck in the past, and he’s a member of a club he never intended to personally join, and what’s more, he has knowledge that the school’s sports teams aren’t going to win anything. The volume ends with the suggestion that he might try to change that, but it seems like what he really needs to conquer is his own deep-seated belief that he’s a bad-luck charm. This is a fun series. – Michelle Smith
DAYS, Vol. 8 | By Tsuyoshi Yasuda | Kodansha Comics (digital only)- It’s the semi-finals of the Tokyo qualifiers for the All Japan Tournament, the final chance for Seiseki’s third years to play on the national stage. Unfortunately, with Oshiba and Kazama injured, and captain Mizuki forced to sit out because of penalties in previous games, Seiseki is missing its offensive powerhouses. Tsukamoto plays his first official game in some time, and it’s truly gratifying to see him gradually realize that he doesn’t suck anymore. He has a real affinity for regaining possession of stolen balls, and once he begins to have some confidence in his skill, soccer, which previously was just a way of hanging out with friends, starts to become fun in its own right. Seeing him seize the opportunity for a shot without hesitation is quite a big deal, even though he misses. Looking forward to volume nine! – Michelle Smith
Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction, Vol. 1 | By Inio Asano | Viz Media – While it may not be as immediately dark as some of Asano’s other manga, Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction still has an ominous and disconcerting atmosphere to it; already there is plenty of heartbreak along with the more lighthearted moments. Kadode Koyama is a young woman in high school who is having a difficult time finding the motivation to devote to her studies when the world itself is coming to an end. Three years ago, aliens appeared from outer space, the attack changing both everything and nothing about human life on Earth. While the story itself is intriguing, Asano’s artwork is a real highlight of the series. With dramatic angles and cinematic framing, Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction is always visually dynamic even when the manga focuses on the more mundane aspects of the characters’ lives. Well, as surprisingly mundane as things can be when living through an alien invasion. – Ash Brown
The Honor Student at Magic High School, Vol. 8 | By Tsutomu Sato and Yu Mori | Yen Press – For a series that’s supposed to be about Miyuki, the side manga really isn’t concentrating on her POV as much as you’d expect. Of course, given Miyuki’s incestuous love for her brother, perhaps that’s for the best. Instead, this volume is Honoka-and-Shizuru heavy, as we see Honoka’s triumphant win at Battle Board (as well as her triumphantly skintight wetsuit, which shows off her large chest to a ridiculous degree) and also see Shizuku’s battle with Miyuki in Ice Pillars Break, whose conclusion is fairly obvious but still emotional. It’s hard to strive to do your best when you hang around with people so far above you every day, let alone when they’re good friends. Excellent – Sean Gaffney
Imperfect Girl, Vol. 3 | By NISIOISIN and Mitsuru Hattori | Vertical Comics – Good news, the series stayed away from disquieting relationships, though there is a bath scene together. This series has been about a girl who has suffered abuse, and her traumatic mindset after the death of her parents. Said death is shown here, a bit unrealistic but evocative, as is somewhat expected of Nisioisin. Speaking of which, the revelation of the stories that the narrator wants to tell now is a nice fourth-wall break, as they’re all if Nisioisin’s other series, from Zaregoto onward. The conclusion is perhaps a bit too pat, but honestly at this point after all the exhausting tension of the three-book series, pat is good enough for me. Good stuff. – Sean Gaffney
Murcielago, Vol. 6 | By Yoshimurakana | Yen Press – To answer my question from last review, yup, this volume begins with a ridiculously over-the-top sex scene between Kuroko and the mother from last volume. As for the daughter, she’s attending a new school, which is an elevator school that also features Hinako and her friends, as well as a mad bomber, some unfortunate bullies, and a seemingly meek young woman whom Kuroko helps to stroll down the path of a twisted lesbian killer. For all that Kuroko is theoretically helping the police, there’s never any doubt that she’s also killing because she loves it, and gets away with it here. I emphasize again: I enjoy reading Murcielago, but it is a nasty series, and you need to accept that going in. Everyone here is awful. – Sean Gaffney
Pandora in the Crimson Shell: Ghost Urn, Vol. 10 | By Shirow Masamune and Rikudou Koushi | Seven Seas – Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in. The first half of this is standard Pandora, meaning somewhat dull and also filled with dumb comedy, though I did appreciate that Vlind’s two assistants seemingly look similar to Hyatt and Elgala. The second half, dealing with Mr. Keith Brooklyn, his wife, and their child, is a lot better, getting into the nature of “quality of life” and what it means to be truly happy, and utilizing Nene’s special superpowers for a good, loving reason. I know more than to expect this sort of thing to continue, but it was greatly appreciated as a break from the fanservice and global conspiracy. – Sean Gaffney
Spirit Circle, Vol. 3 | By Satoshi Mizukami | Seven Seas – Fuuta is getting better at reconciling his past lives with his present (and figuring out that his family and friends are also connected to him in the past), but he’s not getting along any better with Kouko, and she’s determined to destroy him for what he apparently did as Fortuna—which we still don’t know, and which Fortuna himself seems to be trying to actively stop him learning. As for the life we see this time around, it’s a tale of old samurai, and he and Kouko literally lose an arm and a leg each to each other. The author is very goo9d at showing the emotional impact of a scene, even if he’s not the best at facial expressions. (That hasn’t changed since Biscuit Hammer, really.) Addicting. – Sean Gaffney
Yowamushi Pedal, Vol. 8 | By Wataru Watanabe | Yen Press – Day two of the Inter-High continues. Although this volume features the triumphant return of Onoda and Tadokoro—which is great, and features Tadokoro crying manly tears of profound gratitude—most of the action has to do with the two teams currently battling it out for the lead: reigning champions Hakone Academy and Kyoto Fushimi, led by deceptive and ever-so-creepy Midousuji. We see how he converted the previously unified members of the Kyoto Fushimi team into his foot soldiers (and there are hints that a rebellion might come soon from within the ranks) and how he exploits the totally justified and sympathetic weakness of Hakone’s ace sprinter, Shinkai. Although readers surely want to see Shohoku take the victory, it’s neat that for this section at least, I find myself rooting for Hakone to smack Midousuji down decisively. Hopefully that will transpire in the next volume! – Michelle Smith

Pspspspsp some Riku and Ann being bros headcanons???
OH FUCK YES THANKS BRO SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG BUT Riku Ann friendship my beloved… This got super long so under a read more it goes 💀
OK so these two are literally chaos incarnate.
They have about two braincells between them. And they never use them.
Honestly apart? They're very intelligent (Riku has his mom's brains and Ann is intelligent in her own right) but whenever they're together it just cancels out.
Their number one favorite activity to do together? Annoy Makoto. At first it was unintentional because they just got up to their normal bullshit but it pissed Makoto off so much and they found it funny and now they do it deliberately.
Don't get me wrong they love Makoto and Ann really has no beef with her but Riku gets very annoyed at how "know it all" she is (he's exaggerating but she does it a lot you know? At least that's how I felt). But really it's harmless and they do back off it starts to upset her.
They also love to go shopping together! Ann will drag Riku to all the best boutiques in Tokyo and he just comes along for the fun of it. He also let's Ann pick out his outfits and buys her some clothes in return (he insists he's too lazy to pick out his own clothes but it's actually because he can see how happy Ann gets doing it and that makes him happy :] - not that he'd admit it)
They also sing a lot. They'll just randomly burst out into song in mementos and the only reason as to why no one has killed them yet is because they're both surprisingly good singers.
This is also accompanied by a lot of dancing. Riku had dance lessons as a kid and is actually super passionate about it and Ann loves watching him dance and rocking with him ofc. Makoto just wishes they wouldn't do it in the middle of a mini boss fight 😞
They constantly make stupid bets/dares with each other. Like Ann will be like "I bet that shadow is weak to magna" and Riku is like "buy me crepes and I'll find out" and before Ann can say deal Riku has already launched himself at it (and most likely gotten his ass yeeted across the field)
On a more serious note they're really supportive with one another when it comes to their trauma. Ann was the first person Riku properly opened up to about Hatanaka. She is very sympathetic with him and really helps him through his rough patches. In turn Riku is super supportive about Ann's own trauma and her feelings of guilt around what happened to Shiho
If either of them is having a bad day the other will show up on their doorstep with the cheesiest movies, 10000% packets of sweets and blankets just in case. They don't even talk sometimes, they just sit together in comfortable silence.
Riku will always come to Ann's modeling shoots if he can. He intimidates anyone who makes Ann (or any of the other models) feel uncomfortable and has the time of his life bullying Mika <3 (also because I hc Yukari as having her own modeling agency - don't ask I don't remember where that came from - he also gets to see his mom occasionally)
Ann has also offered to come to any fancy business party and bully old rich men for Riku if he needs it. She tends to come to any meetings he has and waits outside for him to get food after if he doesn't have plans (if he does Mitsuru will ask Ann if she wants to come to and ofc she'd agree).
The only time they ever butt heads (and even then it lasts like 10 seconds before it's all forgotten) is whenever Ann calls Yukari and Mitsuru milfs. Riku gets very annoyed and Ann thinks it's hilarious. Yukari thinks it's funny too and just laughs it off and Mitsuru has no idea what milf means. No one's gonna tell her either that it's not Mother I'd Like to be Friends with 💀💀💀💀
All in all they are very close and great buddies and I live for their dynamic. Also their dynamic with Yusuke. That's my phantom thief brot3 😌

For the character ask thingy I’m going to say Sae
OH FUCK YES
Give me a character and I'll answer:
Do I like them:
Hoo boy yes I do. She’s in my top 5 favorite p5 characters and probably top 10 in all of persona. She used to be higher but I still love her. She’s a really interesting character and her palace was easily the best in the game. Doesn’t help that she is smoking hot and I am a simple lesbian.
5 good qualities:
Her voice acting is god tier, her design well 😳, her character pre-palace, the palace itself and also absolutely love whenever you start a new confidant she just says some stupid shit about how oh you must have had help with this because of someone WHO WAS IT! It’s so funny.
3 bad qualities:
I really don’t like how she was handled post her palace? Like she went from being a genuinely interesting character with flaws and a skewed morale compass to like a baby sitter? Another adult to watch the group? I don’t know how to describe it but it felt like all her conflict with the thieves just fizzled out. Like she never really apologized properly to the thieves for what she put them through before the change of heart and I guess I just wanted to see that? Also she bullies Makoto too much. And they never got a chance to properly make up.
OTP:
Saetae. Gothic mean lesbians go brr brr. Also little mention to Sae/Mitsuru because that is a pairing to powerful for this world and makes me feel things.
BROTP:
Honestly Akechi. I thought their interactions were pretty funny when they were working together. I felt like Akechi was one of the only people Sae had a shred of respect for which was nice.
OT3:
Don’t have one.
NOTP:
Akechi, and honestly anything that isn’t Saetae. The Akechi one never sits right with me and after that I’m just not as invested in anything other than Saetae or Mitsuru/Sae.
Best Quote:
"...According to the reports, it seems that your skill at handling a gun is quite impressive. Either you taught yourself... or you had a capable coach by your side... Where did you learn how to handle a gun!?"- What she says when you unlock the tower confidant. It’s so fucking funny considering said person was a 10 year old child.
Head Canon:
She does make it up to Makoto for being so hard on her but it takes time. They do talk it out slowly and eventually they work things out. Also she’s trans lesbian.

For the character asks, Shinjiro?
Oh nice my boy!!!
Give me a character and I'll answer:
Do I like them:
Oh god yes absolutely. I love him so much!! He’s such a complex character and he’s just so interesting. Like I absolutely adore his relationship with Ken and Akihiko, it’s honestly one of the the best written in the game. I think he’s a super realistic character too, I like how he deals with his guilt if that makes sense? Like shutting himself off from his friends and society makes a lot of sense. And I absolutely love how he comes back to SEES to protect Ken. I also love his love of cooking and how he gets on really well with Koromaru (I adore that scene in the movie where Aigis catches him feeding Koromaru and he’s wearing that apron it’s so funny and cute).
5 good qualities:
Well I talked about this a bit above but I love his relationships with the other characters (Akihiko being the stand out), I love how he handles his grief (even though it’s better to go see a therapist Shinji PLEASE), I love his voice acting I think it’s really well done and his persona design is awesome too. Also probably a little controversial BUT I do like the way he can be saved in P3P. Not just because it’s like yay Shinji doesn’t die but also because it isn’t as against the themes of the game as some people think it is? Like OK I saw something about this somewhere recently (can’t remember for the life of me where) BUT it’s supposed to be like a different way of looking at death? Like by having the ability to save Shinjiro, the FeMC is showing him that life is precious and can be taken away at any moment so you should live it to your fullest, which resonates with the games theme of death and living your life the best you can. The post I’m thinking of puts it way better so if I find it I’ll reblog it (if it was on here that is curse my shitty memory 😔).
3 bad qualities:
OK this is tough because I love him so much. I guess my only point here isn’t really on him BUT I would have loved to have seen more of his relationship with Mitsuru? I mean like he’s know her the second longest after Akihiko so I think it would have been nice to see them interact more. I honestly just want more senpai squad content I love them. Oh ALSO I wish we got more interactions between him and Minato. Like not even a full on social link but just some more interactions would have been nice.
OTP:
OK so I am torn between two here: Akishinji and Shinjiham. I love them both so much. There’s so much I like about both that I really can’t pick. I love Akihiko and Shinjiro’s relationship in game and I think they work together romantically. Plus there’s like a ton of amazing content out there for them. And as for Shinjiham I really love Shinji’s social link and I can see how much Shinjiro cares for Minako. It’s really sweet.
BROTP:
Shinjiro and Mitsuru. Like I said earlier I want to know more about their friendship!! I saw a post that was like their friendship is just them daring each other to ask their crushes out and that is literally perfect. I also think they tease each other a lot and definitely LOVE teasing Akihiko. They’re very good at it too, unfortunately for Aki. Also just the senpai squad in general they are my kids.
OT3:
OK SO HERE ME OUT: Akihiko/Shinjiro/Minato. I’ve wanted to talk about this one for a while but basically: I love Akishinji. I love Akimina. SO why not combine the two? I also think that Shinjiro and Minato would really get along (emo solidarity lol) and they would have a lot of fun teasing their crazy boyfriend (Akihiko is getting BULLIED tonight Shinji approves). I just think the dynamic between the three would be really cool and I want to make content for them because I think I’m the only person who ships this oof.
NOTP:
Mitsuru and Shinjiro. They’re friends and Mitsuru’s a lesbian all Mitsuru/male ships make me super uncomfortable oof. OH also Senpai Squad OT3. I don’t know why but this one makes me super super uncomfortable it’s probably my least favorite ship in persona :/ (no offense to anyone who ships this go you for doing so, it just actually makes my stomach hurl I don’t know why I have such a violent reaction to it 😔)
Best Quote:
This is how it should be. No I am not sorry.
Head Canon:
He’s non binary! I like the idea of Shinji being a he/they I just think it’s neat. Also after the events of P3 where he’s saved, he moves to a small town (Inaba maybe ahaha) and he opens a small restaurant and adopts a load of dogs.
