Wench: I think it was the kinda-surreal, definitely-creepy vibes of this ep that made me remember it so fondly... tbh, it's definitely living up to my memory. Forgot Max was so annoying in it, though, because it was overshadowed by last ep

Jezebel: I swearrr this episode is giving me whiplash… Like, even down to Max’s attitude. She starts on something and it’s like oh, boy, here we go, but then she backpedals, and then goes full bitch again, and then apologizes. And I’m like!! EITHER COMMIT TO BITCHDOM OR STOPPPP BITCHINGGG

Wench: Like, it's coming up, but only in a "oh, they're fighting" way. Not a "he just lost something important to him for the second time; he deserves adjustment" way. Definitely not a "he considered ending things last episode" way.

Jezebel: I HATE IT! Like I get that was just a plot point for the episode but tbf that’s not a plot point you should use for just one ep. That’s too heavy and too real.

Wench: And it's an issue that, like, actually affects people? And requires serious work to overcome? It. Bugs me. That it's just a minor thing that gets blurred past. You know what I mean.

Jezebel: Now granted back then shit was different and triggers weren’t concerns in media. But still I fully get it

Jezebel: Just like with the heavy topic of the last ep being pushed under the rug… Max’s seizures just suddenly reappearing only to not be mentioned again…. Will be equally as annoying

Wench: I always wanted them to show up in s2 because other transgenics show up. Other transgenics who likely weren't told about their tryptophan deficiency. And yeah, maybe not all of them have it, but we know the X5s do, so Alec, Biggs, and the other X5s should have had some kind of scene about that imo.

Jezebel: Yeah

Wench: It would have been nice if it made her confront the relative comfort of her life, tbh. Because she at least knows all this stuff about herself and Manticore, whereas the others are literally thrust into the deep end without warning,and all because she decides to take down Manticore and act like she didn't cause any problems. Is it likely? Nah. Would it have been nice? Yeah

Jezebel: Yeah that’s fair!!

Wench: Anyway, go on.

Jezebel: It feels like they either got bored with the seizure storyline. Or it was too much to keep up with on top of the other story lines. But then this being the ep AFTER Logan’s heavy ep… they needed to make him the hero even from the chair… and to do that she had to be down and out.

Wench: I could be wrong about them dropping it, btw. But I don't remember it coming back.

Jezebel: Fair… But it also hasn’t been in like the past 4 eps… or more

Jezebel: So yeah it seemed so out of the blue. Also what was the point of these people killing this family? I know they said but I didn’t catch it and I’m like….

Wench: Basically... racism

Jezebel: Ahhhh 💔💔💔💔

Wench: When the Pulse hit, everyone blamed "outsiders.” And that family had gas and food when everyone else didn't. So the townsfolk came to the "obvious" conclusion that they knew what was gonna happen and shored up on supplies ahead of time. Thus, they attacked.

Jezebel: Ahh 💔💔 that’s fucked

Wench: Yeah. I don't think that storyline ever returns either. Other than that, the Pulse basically isn't addressed. They use it as worldbuilding, but don't do much by way of development with it. Again: I think. It's been a bit since I saw these episodes

Jezebel: ☠️☠️☠️☠️ Plot holessss. Gotta love em

Wench: BUT! Plus side! One more episode 'til Ben :) And next episode is OC-heavy

It truly is horrendous. The more I think about it the madder I get.

Okay, right? The existence of magician guilds imply that well, they're independent from mages serving in the government or royal family. I forgot what those royal magicians were called, I apologize. But anyways, what is the process of obtaining a license? An exam? Is the exam seasonal? Monthly? Yearly? Do you have to join a guild to obtain a license or do you need to have a license to join a guild? Can there be non-guild freelancing magicians? So many questions and zero answers. It's so confusing.

Oh, yes. Beware of the Brothers. People said it was good so I tried reading it but... I did not jive with the brothers nor the story, the brothers irritated me a lot. So I dropped it pretty fast. So I wouldn't know what exactly went wrong with that particular one but I can make a few educated guesses.

And I feel you on the whole “manhwa authors don't know how to write healthy family dynamics”... It's honestly a tad depressing. Iirc Claude didn't even celebrate her birthday with her until like her debutante? Correct me if I'm wrong?? He gives her such grandiose gifts and stuff but doesn't come to celebrate with her?? Wtf?? And oh please n e v e r shut up about that. It's always, always Athy who's doing the initiating (except for the times he summoned her daily in the early chapters but like... he isn't seeking her out he's calling her to him like my dude you can't even bother to go see your daughter???) It really should not be a child's responsibility to shoulder an adult's burdens, initiate a reconciliation, and kickstart the adult's healing.

Ikr? Her primary objective was always(questionable on this front after the debutante but ah well) survival. She never thought about becoming empress. She never expressed any desire for it. She basically got yeeted into the role by her father's absence (and her uncle stirring shit). She's never struck me as the leader type. It just feels... I don't know, really. “She's the protag so she must end up in the highest position possible” kinda thing.

From what I know of LP!Athy, she's gloomy, solemn and doesn't stand out much (even though she was said to have grown into a lady of talent and grace due to her hard work). AU!Athy, who was actually trained by a full-on mage and court official rolled into one, would be fucking powerful. Doesn't speak much, doesn't draw attention to her via charm or anything. She just does her job and... well, if her magic mesmerizes more than a few people, that's not her business, is it?

Ikr?? What exactly is magic? Is mana tied to the body or the soul? There must be different schools of magic: this country specializes in this magic and that country specializes in that, does that sorta thing exist? Are there wandering mages? Magicians in warfare? Magicians in court? Magicians for general troubleshooting? Come on, GIVE US MORE— (also if everyone's supposed to have magic in them, and Ijekiel got sick because magic got put in his body... what)

I do not know much about Cabel but yeah that sorta interaction with Claude would be awesome.

“Prodigies don't translate well into good teachers” is what seems to be going on with Lucas, but instead of exploring it further WMMAP just... doesn't. It's just played for a joke. How does he feel when nobody ever seems to understand what he's saying at any given moment? Does it make him feel lonely? Does he deny that loneliness? Does his genius isolate him from his magician peers/coworkers? As of right now he just feels like... a typical ML who doesn't give a shit about anything, ever.

And oh I'd love to sees something like that. Siodonnan Magician Athy and Lucas arguing, Lucas actually teaching Jenny, Jenny liking his honesty...

The second ask of the AU is currently unanswered (and that's okay! the answerer should take it easy and I don't wanna pressure em) but I deleted what I wrote after sending the ask in so I unfortunately do not have the full writing to share but I do remember a couple points:

- Athy's magic is... alive, in a way. Lily finds her fatigue being taken away whenever she steps foot in their door after work because of Athy's subconscious blessing. Their fires stay lit for longer, Athy dances with the wind, etc. (Was not featured in the writing but like... wouldn't it be cool for Siodonnan magic to have spirits like in Zoroastrianism the religion? IMAGINE SPIRIT FAMILIARS)

- Lily works for a small shop in Siodonna after running away (have yet to decide what shop) and Athy likes to help. One day a Siodonnan mage stumbles upon the shop and notices that it's chock full of magic thanks to Athy. They offer an apprenticeship to Athy.

- Athy trains under them and eventually comes to serve the Siodonnan royal court. She still occasionally visits the shop and helps around, where she meets Kiel for the first time where Kiel is on a school trip to Siodonna.

- The second time they meet is in Obelia, where Athy is one of the people invited to Claude's birthday banquet (or her lady is, or she just gets to go as a court magician?)...

- Athy senses the black magic in Jenny, she calls it a storm and she narrates that she understands Jenny's storm (implied but not said: she knows Jenny yearns for love, and the black magic feeds on said yearning. she understands Jenny's desire for love and family and belonging). That's what draws Athy to Jenny, even as Athy has complicated feelings about this girl who is so loved by Claude.

Stuff not from the writing but I've thought about over the days:

- Siodonnan magicians operate on an apprenticeship system where magicians would go around looking for kids with magical talent. It's more formal with court magicians or guilds because they arrange with schools in their area to go to said schools and test kids for magical aptitude. Or the school holds a tournament and mages watch and they can offer apprenticeships to the ones that stand out. Independent or freelancing mages however, just wander around until they stumble on a kid. Funnily enough Athy's master works for the government but stumbled upon Athy by accident.

- Jenny had a tiny crush on Athy before she found out Athy's her sister (or really, her cousin). That's because Athy believes in her potential and doesn't immediately dismiss it, or doesn't immediately fawn over her. She comes to look up to Athy quite a lot.

- “Being blood and being family are quite different things, I feel. Princess should decide who she wants as family.” (Athy to Jenny)

- I still do not know how to incorporate Lucas into the story.

- Nor Ana, really

- Rosalia probably starts an incident and blames it on Siodonna. Athy is now a detective (and a healer too, if Claude is said incident)

- There should probably a scene where Jenny stands up against Rosalia, gaining courage and whatnot from Athy's tutelage.

- I have decided to make Athy's master a grumpy middle-aged woman because I want to and nobody can stop me

- Athy's master sees through the hiding-the-jewel-eyes thing, sees Blackie, and immediately clocks in that Athy is obviously Obelian royalty, perhaps even the missing princess the emperor's kicking up a fuss about. Then she said ‘screw it, I don't care’ and raises Athy and Lily as her own

- WMMAP's depiction of a... middle eastern? south asian??? culture is... fetishistic and doesn't jive with me. Sexualized belly dancer outfits (which according to what I've read isn't even traditional, the dance was created to entertain foreigners or sumn) and the pale skin and blond hair and western names, I dunno. It feels wrong. Imma have to try to find a way to mesh the Weird™ canon depiction and actual respectful depiction...

I love this AU SO much! Half of the fandom’s fanfics are either written insanely well and thought out, expanding more upon the story or… well, the usual. We really need stories that feature Lily and Athy running away from the palace and their journey from then on. We have too many of the main cast just doing exactly what they do in the canon story (honestly, isn’t the point of fanfics supposed to be… derailing and changing events and tropes from the story? or at least add more to it?)

I still have yet to see a full on, game changing, world changing WMMAP AU fic that’s been updated in the past year. Some coffee shop, university, and modern AUs but like,,, nothing that actually twists or changes the dynamics between the characters unless it’s just making Athy a cruel asshole disguised as a ‘girlboss’ (in which, the manwha community really needs to know the difference between being a badass female character and just being a bitch).

Oh. And the context for BotB—Hari ends up with Eugene. As in, her eldest brother. Which is so screwed up on so many levels even if they’re not related There’s also the fact that the third brother(?) apparently has a crush on her too which is??? what the hell??? they bullied her for so many years in her past life and her current life, and the fact that she was adopted BECAUSE she looked like a carbon copy of their dead sister??? what. Cabel was literally the only sane brother who, y’know, doesn’t fall for his sister?

loki finale ask (finally)

tbf i didn’t really go in blind because i am an internet addict. parts that were already spoiled for me include:

mobius doesnt know who loki is 😭

sylvie and loki kiss (why!) & she immediately transports him back to the tva. so presumably wasn't actually that romantic, just manipulative (still bad)

the multiverse gets created

kang is the one who remains

actually watching the episode taught me that:

kang created the tva is because he’s a genius egomaniac who wanted to keep himself safe from all the other genius egomaniac versions of himself (this totally works given his comic origins, he's dealt with many versions of himself, eg. immortus, but i have a lot more questions below)

sylki kiss was definitely not romantic. she tricked him so she could kill kang. (still not a good enough excuse smh)

my interpretation of their fight: neither loki nor sylvie, if they 100% knew that kang was telling the truth about the tva, would kill kang. sylvie told loki she was doing this because she thought he was lying. (not totally true to loki's characterization imo, i'd think that both loki and sylvie would rather deal with infinite kangs than give up on free will)

new mobius doesn't know who loki is not because the tva wiped his memories, but because this is a totally different version of mobius (unmined angst potential imo)

ravonna fights mobius, lets him live, and goes out in search of "free will", and may align with kang in the future, since ravonna in the comics is kang's wife. (curious to see what they do with her. i have Thoughts on her place in the whole religious allegory of the show i will explore in my wowki fanfic)

me overthinking things

if kang knows all why would he go through all this trouble to lead loki and sylvie here? he couldn't have done this in an easier, less heartbreaking way? his plan was so contrived :/

one question i've kinda pushed aside for the show is: what kind of time travel disruption would qualify for a nexus event? because technically any variation, no matter how small, should create a branch in the timeline, because 2 contradictory things can't happen in the same timeline at the same time. but now we might have a kind of answer: if kang founded the tva to avoid other versions of kang, he doesn't need to make sure there's 1 sacred timeline, he'd just need to make sure all the variations are so small that the infinite timelines are basically the same, so there's basically infinity copies of the same timeline in existence, thus averting multiversal war between egotistical kangs.

why was there that arbitrary barrier past which kang couldn't see? yeah, ✨suspense✨ and ✨plot✨, but it's arbitrary, and it really would've made no difference if he knew what happened to him. in fact i quite like the idea of kang walking into his own death.

thoughts that don't really fit on this list

the finale was awful. not just the sylki kiss & bad narrative choices or whatever. there was so much padding and exposition, jonathan majors's performance totally took me out of it (i doubt he's a bad actor, this episode didn't give him a good opportunity to shine), the writing was super slow and bad, this ep could have been slimmed down to like 15 minutes because not a lot actually happened.

natalie holt's music — both the titles (lokius!) and the actual tracks — slap so hard. probably the best soundtrack in the mcu other than black panther. she really gets the show

production & costume design of everything related to kang was amazing, felt very vast, old, and regal

sylvie is acutally a surprisingly well-realized woman character and i'm quite proud of the show for that. (unfortunately neither her nor b-15 are fully realized until they kiss each other which has not happened as of yet)

please watch this it has brought me great comfort
