why are there at least two people in the world of pokémon who own large swaths of land and populate it solely with pikachu
it's interesting that both of these people have adopted a pikachu's (assumed) speach quirks (peppering pika into their sentences)

Pokemon XY Episode 78 Review
Tumblr media
And by “review” I mean “let me tell you how much fun this episode was to watch”. All of that below.
Thoughts
Oh my goodness, this episode. This is pure, fun filler done correctly. I remember when I watched this the first time raw, I had a smile on my face the whole time. I even would’ve said that I enjoyed this more than the Noibat episode before it, but after seeing them both again with subs, I’d say I enjoyed them both for different reasons.
This episode isn’t the first instance of movie making (OS did it and for all I know maybe there were more), but seeing this group do it and having the cosplay Pikachu featured made me love this so much.
Some of the things I like best about this episode are just the little things that happen in it. Clemont’s whole reaction to the script not being done and volunteering to write it was great (Citronic Brain On!). Hawlucha being Pikachu’s stunt double made so much sense and was definitely a nice touch. Serena’s behind the scenes filming was a really great addition and I’m glad it actually lead to probably my favorite part of this episode: the bloopers. Every little bit of it was great. Pikachu’s scary version of the MGM lion, Serena losing it over Bonnie messing up her lines, Clemont continuing to be camera shy, all of it was just a joy to watch.
But I think what I enjoyed most of all in this episode is how much fun I imagine Ikue Otani must have had doing this. For nearly 20 years she’s been having to say “Pikachu” over and over, and even though she’s done wonderful at it, it must get tiring to have to do that same thing with little change (besides the recent addition of Scottie). In this one she got to use that iconic voice in many different ways for many different Pikachu, as well as getting to provide the actual “voice” of Super Pikachu. Not to mention they even animated her into the episode. I absolutely loved when I found out they did that. I respect her so much and I know the show does too. This episode almost seemed like a love letter to her.
So yes in short, this episode was just so much fun and I know I won’t be forgetting it anytime soon.
Extras
-Okay so there is no way they finished that movie in seemingly one day but this episode was so good I don’t even care.
-I really hope they dub this in English because I kind of have a feeling they won’t.
-Face of the Episode:

Not sure why Ash is even there since I didn’t hear his voice in the movie, but that’s not the point. Look at Serena trying to keep it together omg
Closing
I remember being doubtful of this episode when it was first announced but man am I glad it exists. So did you all feel the same? Let me know your thoughts and I’ll see you in the next one!

Tom and Jerry.
That’s my thoughts on this episode. Just basically an episode of Tom and Jerry but with Pokemon. I like Tom and Jerry and so I liked this episode. I hope Iwane has other animation gigs then just this though because he’s been largley absent recently. The setting was very interesting and was something we’ve havent seen before (can we get more Pokeball variants in the future now please??), some nice Pikashipping moments in there, Clemont was useful, the slapstick antics of Mewoth and Pikachu pretty much carried it throughout. The final “duel” was pretty entertaining. Yeah that’s about all I have to say, can’t wait for next week.

Alright so I didn’t expect to care much about the Pikachu episode compared to the Fly Relay one but MY GOD that was great, they must’ve had a ton of fun making this one, ESPECIALLY THOSE BLOOPERS, EASILY THE BEST PART. Bonnie messing up the lines and Serena eventually doing so as well due to laughter, Luchabro being a stunt man and instinctively showing off  instead of doing his job properly etc. Serena filming the making of the movie was cool, and dat CITRONIC BRAIN LOL, a new side to Clemont. This man went all Walker (a character from Durarara who is also voiced by Yuki Kaji) writing that script. THERE WAS A TORKOAL AND A WEEZING, TWO OF MY FAV MONS (The Torkoal even sounded like Ash’s, don’t play with me writers).  Ikue Ohtani got to voice Pikachu’s with different personalities and THEN ACTUALLY TALK AS PIKACHU, THAT SHIT WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY. I also like how Unsho Ishizuka (Oak, narrator etc), Shinichiro Miki (James) and Megumi Hayashibara (Jessie) had roles as different cosplay Pikas, though I do wonder where they got those voice actors in series xD. Serena and Bonnie also voiced Pikachus, good stuff. Also loved Ash and Pikachu being so into the movie while watching it, looking all upset when the two Pikas got kidnapped. I was kinda taken aback by them just casually showing Frank mourning for his (I assume) dead wife during his backstory. Apparently Pikachu’s just don’t age lol (or he got different cosplay Pikas since his wedding). We got new music too, at least one new Best Wishes remix and tracks from the Klefki short (so I assume they’ll also start using movie 17 music soon, unless I already did here and I didn’t recognize it). Definitely one of the more funny episodes of Pokemon imo, I didn’t think you’d deliver, Pikachu, but you did good~

It’s so weird to have it confirmed that all the diffrent Pokeball variants DO exist, yet except for the Apricorn Pokeballs Kurt made way back in OS, there hasnt been a single trainer who ever used anything but the standard issue Pokeball.
